Play! by Sephora April 2016 Subscription Box Review

Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box program. Each month subscribers will receive a box of deluxe samples, along with an exclusive PLAY! BOOK — packed with helpful advice — and a PLAY! PASS to redeem in store for a free one-on-one learning session with a beauty expert. The six product samples in your PLAY! by SEPHORA box are from the same prestige brands Sephora carries in store and online, and they are sized to use multiple times.

Play! by Sephora ships via USPS.  All Play! by Sephora boxes should arrive between the third and fourth week of each month.

The Play! boxes and packaging are so fun!

I peeked at spoilers for this one so I knew what to expect.  Still I couldn’t get it out of my mail box quickly enough today.

The included booklet features product information along with pro tips for each of the items in the box. The April 2016 Play! by Sephora box featured “The It Crowd” and included items to pull off the season’s latest trends with the following it-girl items:

~Milk Makeup Sunshine Oil (3mL / 0.1fl.oz) ($7.60): This oil has a light citrus smell and can be used anywhere you need a little hydration – including elbows, knees, cuticles, hair or face.  I tested it on my cuticles and I could instantly see a difference.  It did leave my hands feeling a little greasy, but I think I used too much!  A little goes a lot longer than I expected.

~Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment (10mL) ($35): This looks almost like a milky serum and helps with dark spots and uneven tone, dullness and uneven texture
and wrinkles.  I can’t see any difference yet, but I found the sample size to be generous and it works for all skin types which is awesome.

~Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream (0.1fl.oz / 3mL) ($5.30): This cream is pretty much designed to make you look like you got a full night’s sleep even when you didn’t.  I *think* it worked.  It certainly worked in my mind because I looked in the mirror, used the cream and then looked back a few minutes later and thought yeah, I look less tired!  It can be used over or under makeup and is also ideal for all skin-types.

~NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien (0.05oz) ($18.57): Ohhh, this is such a pretty color! It’s described as a “dusty rose”, but I can pick up more soft browns from it than rose. It’s also shimmery and just beautiful.  It’s creamy and really easy to apply as well.

~Sephora Colorful Cheek Ink Gel in Peony (0.35oz) ($7.31): I have to admit, I shy away from the Sephora brand when I shop there.  I don’t know why really other than there are just so many other fun brands in there I am drawn to more. The information card suggests using a brush with it, but I used my fingers and it worked well.  I think a beauty blender would work really well with this too.

~Derek Lam 10 Crosby 2AM Kiss (~$2): I wanted to love this, but it’s just too strong for me. It has notes of “Salty Caramel” and “Crystalized Amber”.  I am not real big into amber so that explains why I don’t love it.

~Swatches: Left: NARS. Right: Sephora.

The information booklet includes a “Better Together” page which gives you ideas of what items compliment the items you receive in this month’s Play! by Sephora box.

Included at the back of the booklet is a PLAY!07 card.  You can take the card into your local Sephora for a complimentary one-on-one session to learn how to apply this month’s products.

All totaled I came up with a value of $75.78 for the April 2016 Play! by Sephora box.  I am blown away by the value and am so happy with this box!

Subscriptions are now OPEN for Play! by Sephora so if you have been wanting to subscribe, do it NOW!!!!!
