Koala Crate is from Kiwi Crate’s line of crates and is designed for preschoolers ages 3-4. The box includes all the materials and inspiration for projects related to a theme such as colors, transportation or safari. Crates are designed to give children exposure to new materials and new concepts that encourage hands-on learning and fun.
Koala Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and took about a week to arrive. Sometimes they ship mid-month and sometimes they ship closer to the end of the month.
I knew we’d have some down time up-north this weekend so I brought this up-north to work on. Don’t mind the floor in the pictures – it’s under construction.
The May 2016 Koala Crate theme is “birds” and included three projects “bird wings”, “bird mask” and “clay bird sculpture”:
Project #1 – Bird Mask
The first project we worked on was “bird mask” – “create a feathery bird mask with interchangable beaks“. The project was low on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “discovering” and “creating”.
The mask turned out adorable! I love that the mask had three different beaks to use with it. It was easy to make and W (he’s 4) looked so cute!
Project #2 – Clay Bird Sculpture
The second project was “clay bird sculpture” – “mold your very own bird friend“. It was medium on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “moving – fine” and “creating”.
I feel like maybe B (my husband) had a little more to do with sculpting this bird than W did ;). It turned out great though and W did tell me he did the eyes and the “flowers” (that’s what he called the feathers.
Project #3 – Bird Wings
The third project was “bird wings” – “design your own bird wings and pretend to fly“. It was low on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved ”
How cute is this? Seriously?? The boys said it was easy to make and W loved “flying” like a bird while it was on!
imagine! Magazine!
As usual, the box also contained an “imagine!” magazine. It has puzzles, stories, games and other project idea relating to this month’s theme.
