Mine Chest May 2016 Subscription Box Review

Mine Chest, the first official Minecraft subscription box, is a bundle of hand-picked, official, Minecraft goodies, delivered right to your doorstep each month. Exactly what’s included each month is a closely-guarded secret, but expect an exclusive t-shirt every month, exclusive items, a premium collectible chest, a unique project, and a selection of official collectibles.

Mine Chest ships on a monthly basis via USPS. The box itself was so cool. I don’t even play Minecraft (or know anything about it) and I geeked out over it.

Everything about this box was cool from the outside to the way everything was packaged inside.  I took pictures of the box and then put everything back together to let my 8 year-old (aka L) dig into his own way.

The May 2016 Mine Chest theme was “Beta” as it was the first ever Mine Chest.  The box included the following item:

~Minecraft Finally Beta T-Shirt: I was hoping for a shirt that was a little more exciting, but L seemed to like it so that’s really all that matters.  This t-shirt is a Minechest exclusive which adds to the cool factor.

~Minecraft Creeper Mug ($9.99): I love this!  What Minecraft lover doesn’t need a creeper mug?  L now has this on his desk (aka Minecraft central) and will be putting pens and pencils and colored pencils in it.

~Minecraft “This is a sticker”: I don’t know what he plans to do with it, but L got a kick out of this sticker.

~Changelog: This changelog is used for your Minecraft notes, crafting recipes, etc. I am guessing that L will use it to make notes about all of his different worlds.  I can’t see him righting down any of his crafting recipes, but you never know.

~DIY Crafting Recipe (BETA): This card includes information on how to turn a regular box into a Minecraft block.  You’ll need construction paper, scissors, glue and a small box to do it.  I was hoping that this would be an actual in-game crafting recipe, but sadly it wasn’t.

~Wooden Block Stamp & Ink Pad: I think I have already stamped this about a dozen times because I think it’s so cool!  I’ve looked at a lot of Minecraft toys and haven’t seen anything like this.

~Minecraft Collectible Sticker-Cards: L opened this away from W (his 4 year-old brother) and I can’t say I blame him because I know he would have tried to steal some.

There were so many Mine Chest exclusive items in here that I couldn’t do a cost breakdown on this one.  I expected more of a wow factory from it, but L loved it!  He’s already asking when the next one is coming.

For a first box, it’s underwhelming. I showed my son and he said it was okay I didn’t buy it wasn’t that good. He has gone off Minecraft and moved to Pokemon and Clash Royale/Clash of Clans in the time it took between ordering and shipping so it good I didn’t buy it.
