Trunk Club is a styling service for men and women. They offer in-person shopping appointments (in Chicago, Dallas, DC and LA) and at home styling, which is what we did. You sign-up on the Trunk Club website to be connected with a stylist who reaches out to get to know you and understand your clothing needs and preferences. Your stylist will then send you a link to preview your trunk. You can select the items you would like sent to you to try on at home and pass on the items that aren’t of interest to you. Once your trunk ships you have 10 days to try everything on. You keep only what you love and return what you don’t. Shipping is free both ways and the trunk includes a pre-paid return label. They will even schedule a pick-up at your house. There are no commitments, minimum purchase requirements or styling fees for Trunk Club. Trunks are sent on request and you can change your preferences / profile at any time.
Trunk Club ships via UPS. Boxes vary in size depending on how many items your trunk contains.
B was in need of some Spring / Summer pieces for work – mainly polos and some other casual things for weekends. His stylist (Mary Kate) put together a trunk with about twenty pieces for us to review. We looked it over before it shipped and ended up nixing about ten of them. They were mainly dressier shoes that he doesn’t need right now and long-sleeved button downs that he also wasn’t interested in.
Trunk Club sends everything from shoes to clothing to accessories. Everything is brand new with tags (from the manufacturer) and shoes come in their original boxes.
As I mentioned we opted for a more casual trunk. I would say that these prices are on the less expensive side of things that Trunk Club normally sends. The brands they carry are similar to those Nordstrom carries (actually Trunk Club is a a fully owned subsidiary of Nordstrom) so you can expect Nordstrom type prices with this service.
B’s April 2016 Trunk Club contained the following pieces:
~Penguin Basic Short – Navy ($69): We both loved these shorts, but they were a little too tight in the waist / hips. The material is a cross between swim trunks and chinos. It’s a great lightweight fabric for summer and had they fit right, they would have been a keeper. Verdict: Returned.
~Twenty Singleton Slub Polo – Black ($95): I saw the price on this and thought no way, why is this $95? And then B tried it on and I realized because it’s the nicest polo I have ever seen! It’s made from a thin sweater like material and is perfectly fitted. I can’t find this brand online (Twenty polo isn’t exactly the easiest term to search for), but I am going to keep working on it and see what else they offer. Verdict: Kept.
~Sol Angeles Sahara Flora Polo – Light Blue ($88): This was better in person than in the pictures, but it’s still a no for B. Maybe if he was going on a tropical vacation? It is very soft and it fit great, but it’s too much for him to wear to work. Verdict: Returned.
~Seavees Baja Slip On Core Vintage Wash Linen – Orange ($68): These shoes were a little big on B, but we both loved the style and the price! I’m not sure how wearable this color would have been for B though. Verdict: Returned.
~Seavees Hermosa Plimsoll Core Vintage Wash Linen – Teal ($78): Great shoes! They fit B perfectly, but the color (a pale washed teal) wasn’t for him. Verdict: Returned.
~Seavees Hermosa Plimsoll Core Vintage Wash Linen – Navy ($78): Had B not received these shoes in Navy, he may have kept the teal ones. Maybe. The Navy ones are much more wearable for him though and will fit his style better. Verdict: Kept.
~John Varvatos Classic Polo – Navy ($68): This is a fitted washed navy polo. Totally B’s style and it was an easy decision to keep this. Verdict: Kept.
~John Varvatos Soft Collar Peace Polo – Blue ($68): The information sheet calls this blue, but it’s much more of a green. Again it’s a soft washed polo with a great fit for B. Verdict: Kept.
~A.G. Protege – Tan ($178): These fit B well and I liked them, but he just wasn’t sure how often he’d wear them. He says he’s not much of a tan pants guy and for the price they just weren’t something he’d wear enough to make it worth it. Verdict: Returned.
~Theory Gaskell Short Sleeve Henley – Red ($95): This was my favorite piece in the entire trunk. It’s on the more expensive side of the pieces in the trunk, but it’s so well made and so incredible soft. And I love the burnt orange / red color. This is a piece that B will have for years. Verdict: Kept.
~Taylor Vintage Walking Shorts – Pink ($78): The fit on these shorts was idea and they are a fun pop of color for summer. I doubt they are something he would have picked out on his own, but he ended up loving them. Verdict: Kept.
~Goodlife Short Sleeve Henley w/ Split Hem ($85): This was another keeper. It fit perfect and was super soft and well-made. Verdict: Kept.
B was really happy with his Trunk Club! He’s been traveling so much lately (and has lots of traveling on his schedule for this summer as well) and just doesn’t have the time to go out shopping right now. It was frustration free and a nice birthday splurge for him. It’s certainly not something we would (could) purchase monthly, but it comes in very handy and really takes all the work out of shopping.
If you are interested in checking out Trunk Club, you can find them here. They offer both Men’s and Women’s trunks and can be scheduled for delivery at any time. If you have tried a trunk (men’s or women’s), what’d you think?
