With the news today that Birchbox is changing their point system, I am sure that there will be a lot of people looking for alternatives. Here are some options:
~Allure Beauty Box: $15/month. The Allure Beauty Box includes five or more deluxe sized beauty products every month. Boxes are curated by the editors of Allure magazine and also include a special-edition “mini magazine” chock full of the most trusted product reviews you’ve come to expect from Allure. **Check out my Allure Beauty Box Reviews**
~Beauty Box 5: $12/month. BB5 is a monthly subscription service that delivers a sample box of all things beauty. You’ll receive 4 – 5 samples of a variety of makeup, skin care, fragrances and everything in between. **Check out my Beauty Box 5 Reviews**
~ESSENCE BeautyBox: $15/month. The ESSENCE® BeautyBox is a service to help women of color discover beauty products. Boxes will include sample or trial sizes of five hair and beauty products curated by the trusted beauty experts at ESSENCE Magazine.
~ipsy: $10/month. Each month, subscribers will receive a beautiful Glam Bag with deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products. Members can watch and play along with the stylists with the same products that they are using. **Check out my ipsy Reviews**
~Lip Monthly: $12.95/month. Lip Monthly sends you a curated box of lip gloss, lipstick, lip balm and / or lip stain (plus other non-lip goodies) and aims to help you discover all the best products on the market. **Check out my Lip Monthly Reviews**
~Play! by Sephora: $10/month. PLAY! by SEPHORA is a monthly subscription box program. Each month subscribers will receive a box of deluxe samples, along with an exclusive PLAY! BOOK — packed with helpful advice — and a PLAY! PASS to redeem in store for a free one-on-one learning session with a beauty expert. The six product samples in your PLAY! by SEPHORA box are from the same prestige brands Sephora carries in store and online, and they are sized to use multiple times. **Check out my Play! by Sephora Reviews**
Also available are Target Beauty Box boxes (NOT a subscription – you must purchase monthly) and the quarterly Walmart Beauty Box. I only included boxes $15 or under and other in my list, but if you are looking to spend a tad more, GLOSSYBOX and BOXYCHARM are amazing boxes for the price!
Are you planning to stick with Birchbox or are you making a change? If you are canceling, what box are you switching to?
I was thinking of resubbing to Allure, but overselling for the 2nd month in a row is bad business. Their customer service seems to be pretty horrendous, compared to Birchbox. I’ve been thinking of Essence or resubbing to Ipsy, I guess we’ll see what happens. BB5 was one of my first and the samples got so disappointing, at the end it was mostly free items they were trying to put high values on. Same with Beauty Army, Lip Monthly I canceled since they stopped sending all lip products, and it was lots of low end cosmetics.
I feel like BB5 has been getting better. BeautyArmy seems to be making a comeback, but I want to see how they go for a few months before recommending!
Here is an e-mail I got from them:

Hey Jennifer,
Got a quick special announcement to make.
And it’s something you don’t want to miss. 😉
Why?
Because we have someone we’ve been waiting to introduce to you.
…The new Brand Ambassador of BeautyArmy.
Anyway, just wanted to make a quick intro.
Plus, we know you’re gonna love her…
So Meaghan…
====================================
Hey there! I’m Meaghan Liz.
So thrilled to meet you and share a little bit about myself and the exciting direction BeautyArmy is marching toward.
I genuinely care about beauty and connecting with other women, and the best way I know how to do that is through sharing my opinions and ideas about fashion, color, jewelry, skin care, beauty products and services that make women feel beautiful.
I want to feel good, to look good, and to share my ideas with you because I believe beauty is confidence!
I’m a fiery 5’1″ blonde and I don’t fit “the mold”, and I don’t think anyone should be required to do so either.
Because I believe that beauty isn’t about having that perfect figure…
…And not about having that drop dead gorgeous face either.
For me, beauty is in the way you carry yourself.
Your confidence.
Your lovely flaws.
Your individuality.
It was never about perfection.
Which is why your Beauty Kit is designed so you can custom tailor your experience specifically for you.
Try products you care about.
Explore what interests you.
And bring out your own unique brand of beauty…
For us, a lipstick isn’t just some color we put on our lips.
It’s a mood changer.
Especially when other women can’t help but stare at the new color you’re sporting on your lips, repeatedly asking you where you bought it.
For us, a bold cat eye or smoky shadow makes it much more exciting to get out of the house for a late meeting, a night downtown with girlfriends, or just ramp up an everyday look.
For us, it’s the little things that make ALL the difference.
And by now you probably already know why I’m so passionate about BeautyArmy’s Beauty Kit.
Every month when I pop open my Beauty Kit, I can’t wait to try out all the great products, play with some new looks, and of course ….
Share them all with you!
Just like these brand new, full size products on our site – beautiful, luxurious items to add to your makeup bag … all chosen to entice the sparkle in you.
Check it out now.
I know you’re going to love opening your personalized Beauty Kit and that it will help you feel beautiful inside and out.
Because that’s what you are. 🙂
So I hope you’ll join me in embracing your inner and outer beauty…
And I can’t wait to connect with you on “The Front Lines of Beauty” with BeautyArmy!

I cancelled my 2nd Birchbox and used my points to get the Marcelle eye makeup remover and plan on endeding, still debating, my intial Birchbox sub the end of July not sure yet. I signed up for Ipsy today. I was going spoiler free for the Essence Box and realized when I scrolled down that’s the June box? Didn’t get a detailed look so I will be somewhat surprised.
I have been with Birchbox for so long but the point system is really what sold me. Now that I am getting the Sephora Play box might be time to cancel BB!
