This was my first time ever receiving CrateChef (if actually might be their first ever box – I’m not sure) so I had no idea what to expect. It looked good though.
In addition to physical products, CrateChef contains recipes, information about the chef who curated the box (the May Chef was Blythe Beck) and a letter from the Chef.
The May 2016 CrateChef included the following items:
~Lamb’s Gristmill Stone Ground Yellow Cornmeal ($2.48): This cornmeal is all-natural, gluten-free and contains no added preservatives. I love (like LOVE) corn muffins and cannot wait to use these.
~Mrs. Renfros’s Peach Salsa ($3.95): This peach salsa is amazing! It tastes like homemade and is so delicious with Tostitos thin chips.
~Mud Pie Butter Dish Set ($20.25): This is a ceramic dish with beautiful scalloped details. The knife reads “no such thing as too much butter” and the dish has two butter knives printed on it. It’s got that farmhouse style that is super in right now and I love it.
~For the Love of Sew Embroidered Hand Towel ($8): This towel is amazing. I also cannot get Whip It – by Devo out of my head. This is a total score! Whip It Good!
~My Country Store Pink Magnolia Dye-Free Soy Candle ($8): This is a light floral and smells fabulous. This might sound silly, but I even love the font on the label. Just a fabulous all around candle.
~CocoAndre Chocolatier Sea Salt Caramel Turtles ($7): The final item in the box was sea salt caramel turtles. If you put chocolate, caramel and sea salt on pecans, even I like them.
All totaled I came up with a value of $49.68 for the May 2016 CrateChef. Not a huge value, but I never include shipping in my prices and I didn’t take into account the recipes that come along with this one. I loved the curation and look forward to seeing who the next Chef is!

Wow. Even if you didn’t include shipping (was there a shipping charge, I didn’t see it stated) I can’t imagine any “recipe” would put anymore value in this box. Recipes are available at the click of a mouse. Just like Mrs. Renfro’s is available at any grocery store. It’s good but nothing worthy of a sub box. Corn meal? Is that special? I’m sorry for being a downer but this box seems blah and to say you didn’t include shipping and recipes seems to add insult to injury. JMO of course.
I loved this box. That salsa was so good! They carry this brand at my grocery but I’ve never tried that flavor and never would have if it didn’t come in the box. Now it’s one of my favs! Butter dish, WAY cute. Cornmeal was good and I liked the Hoecakes Recipe that was basically pancakes with cornmeal, but something I’d never done before and the kids loved. The candle was unexpected, but I liked that the chef explained why she put it in. Chocolates, yummy, of course and Since I’m not a pink girl I gave the dish towel to my mom who LOVED it and bought some other cute sayings to match. Have you seen the next box? I haven’t received it yet, but the July box looks like it will be good also, I can’t wait!! I liked it so much that I gifted the upcoming one to a friend.
