The June 2016 Freedom Japanese Market included the following items:
~Caramel Corn: This isn’t caramel corn like I would think of when I think of caramel corn. It’s more like caramel flavored puffs (think like Pirates Booty, like caramel flavored). They are different tasting, but in a good way.
~Kaki-Gori Gum: This is a soda flavored gum. I don’t really like gum (I know, I’m weird), so I am going to let my 8 year-old have this as a super special treat one-day.
~Super Mario Brothers Wii Gum: Again, totally an item for my 8 year-old. He likes boy gum and Mario Bros. (I will admit, I like Mario Brothers too)
~Shrimo Mayo Umailbo & Mentai Umailbo: Nope. Just nope. One of these crunchy sticks is shrimp and mayo flavored and the other is “walleye pollock roe”. I didn’t find either to be tasty and I actually would like to never ever remember trying them ;).
~Koola’s March: These little Koala cookies have a “custard pudding” filling. It took me a minute to figure out what it was and I actually thought it was cheesecake. They are super good and I’d totally have these again.
~Nyoki-Nyoki Kororon: Interesting. You add water to this powder and then “grow” your own Melon, Pineapple and Soda flavors. These are always fun to make, but I never actually think they *taste* good.
~Fuwo Choco Monada: This is a giant cookie with chocolate filling. It’s in the shape of Jibanyan, who is from the popular anime, Yokai Watch. It’s super good and was a bit like E.L.Fudge cookies.
~Grape Ramune: These are grape flavored candies and inside the box is a little toy. I believe you supposed to be able to make these whistle, but I have never been able to figure it out.
~Imo-Kenpi: I love these. They are crunchy sweet potato flavored sticks. They remind me of the potato sticks I always loved when I was a kid, but in a sweet potato flavor. Someone in the US needs to start making these.
~Bonus: Sword Ramune: This is soda flavored candy in a sword shaped container. Soda flavored candy must be huge in Japan!
~Yakisoba Taro: These are pork (yes pork) flavored crunchy things. I’m not a fan, but I could see B (my husband) liking them.
