The July 2016 CrateChef was curated by Chef Kent Rathbun (the information card was hand-signed by him) and included the following items:

~Chroma Type 301 Paring Knife ($54.95): This knife is designed to work well and look stylish at the same time.  I have to admit it is the coolest knife I have ever seen.  It features an ergonomic handle and sleek design.  It stays sharpened for a long time and should only be hand-washed.

~Kent Rathbun Steak & Chop Garlic Salt ($5): I actually left this up-north for my cousin to enjoy.  It can be used on meats or veggies and works when grilling, searing or smoking.

~Kent Rathbun Barbecue Rub ($5): This BBQ rub has a nice kick of flavor.  It’s not hot, but it’s there.  It can also be used on all sorts of meats and veggies.

~Larry’s Bag-Of-Smoke Barbecue Wood Chips ($5.95): This Bag-of-Smoke can be reused up to 5 times!  It works for meat, poultry or vegetables and will “flavor your barbecue for up to four hours of smoking time”.

~Falksalt Crystal Flakes Natural Sea Salt ($4.89): This sea salt is made “the old fashioned traditional way” from Mediterranean seawater. It’s incredibly tasty and can make any food a a star.

~KuKuRuZa Gourmet Popcorn (Hawaiian Salted Caramel) ($4): Ahh, my favorite item in the box!  Salted caramel popcorn.  I like caramel popcorn by itself, but when you add sea salt to it? OMG.  Delicious.

~Recipes: The box also included an assortment of recipes from Chef Rathbun, which featured items from the box.  Included were recipes for “Wood Grilled Pork Tenderloin Filets with Jalapeno Charred Corn & Molasses Barbeque”, “White Cheddar-Thyme Muffins” and “Texas Buffalo Filet with Shiner Bock Beer Braised Roots”.

All totaled the July 2016 CrateChef had a value of $79.79.  That’s not quite double the cost of the box, but it was still very impressive. The star of this box was the knife, and we can always use a high-quality knife here.
