Play! by Sephora August 2016 Subscription Box Review

Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box program. Each month subscribers will receive a box of deluxe samples, along with an exclusive PLAY! BOOK — packed with helpful advice — and a PLAY! PASS to redeem in store for a free one-on-one learning session with a beauty expert. The six product samples in your PLAY! by SEPHORA box are from the same prestige brands Sephora carries in store and online, and they are sized to use multiple times.

Play! by Sephora ships via USPS.  All Play! by Sephora, boxes should arrive between the third and fourth week of each month. Mine took nearly two weeks to arrive this month, but it’s here now.

I love the little bags they have been using lately.

The August 2016 Play! by Sephora theme was “The Eye Openers” and included the following items:

~MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Shadow Eyeshadow and Powder Blush (0.02oz) ($6): This is described as an “iridescent pink granite” colored shadow. I would have called it a light brown shimmer, but now that they mention it, I can see a little pink in it.  It’s super smooth, and the staying power is incredible.  The information card gives you lots of tips to change up your look with this too.

~Urban Decay Perversion Mascara (.1oz) ($7.69): Perversion mascara is “ultracreamy, lengthening, and volumizing”.  I loved this.  I don’t think I have found a mascara I love as much as this one in a long time. It’s lightweight and doesn’t get all clumpy, but gives you amazing length and volume.  I’m a fan!

~CLEAN Reserve Blonde Rose (~$1): Clean Reserve Blonde Rose has notes of Aldehydic Watery, Rose, Peony, Jasmine, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, and Musk.   It all sounds good, but I didn’t love this.  I was expecting more of a floral scent, but I thought it smelled musty on me.

~Lancôme Énergie de Vie The Smoothing & Glow Boosting Liquid Moisturizer (5mL) ($5.21): This moisturizer is designed to give you an instant dewy glow.  It helps with dry and uneven skin along with dullness.  It’s oddly sticky.  I don’t know what makes it sticky, but it’s not something I want on my face during the day.  At night it’s working just fine.

~Caudalie Resveratrol Lift Eye Lifting Balm (5mL) ($19.84): This balm works to lift and smooth the areas around your eyes.  I can’t see any difference yet, but I feel like this is promising.  It’s formulated without Parabens, Sulfates, and Phthalates and made my eyes feel great. Hopefully in a few weeks I will see some results too!

~SEPHORA COLLECTION Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Wear Waterproof (0.017oz) ($4.25): This pencil was creamy and smooth. And lasted FOREVER.  I tested it on my arm when I got the box yesterday and I can still see a faint line even though I washed it off and showered.  I need to break out the makeup remover for this.

~Play Date: Each box comes with a PLAY!Pass to go to your local Sephora and get one-on-one advice about the items in this month’s box.  You can also pop in for a PLAY!Date, which “gives you and a friend the chance to meet fellow subscribers and Sephora’s experts, trade tips, and talk tricks for getting the most out of the stellar products from PLAY! by SEPHORA. Learn the latest beauty buzz, snap some #SEPHORAPLAY selfies, and get inspired to try new tints and different strokes – all in your local store.”  My store doesn’t do these (you can see a list of participating stores here), but if your does, make sure to RSVP and go check it out!

All totaled the August 2016 Play! by Sephora had a value of $43.99.  That’s such a great value for a $10 box, and I am so happy with this subscription!
