Play! by Sephora September 2016 Subscription Box Review

Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box program. Each month subscribers will receive a box of deluxe samples, along with an exclusive PLAY! BOOK — packed with helpful advice — and a PLAY! PASS to redeem in store for a free one-on-one learning session with a beauty expert. The six product samples in your PLAY! by SEPHORA box are from the same prestige brands Sephora carries in store and online, and they are sized to use multiple times.

Play! by Sephora ships via USPS.  All Play! by Sephora, boxes should arrive between the third and fourth week of each month.

Play! by Sephora now packages their items into reusable cloth bags.

You can peek at your box contents online (typically they pop up after your box has shipped) or you can opt to be “unspoiled.”

The September 2016 Play! by Sephora box included the following items:

~SEPHORA COLLECTION Rouge Shine Lipstick (Love Spell) (.035oz) ($3.37): Love Spell is a creamy, almost candy colored pink.  It’s described as having a “deep glossy shine,” but it’s not a gloss-like shine.  I liked the formula, but the pink shade isn’t something I would pick on my own.

~Kat Von D Tattoo Liner (.007fl.oz) ($7): If you wear eyeliner and are looking for a great liquid liner, look no further.  This is it.  I don’t even wear eyeliner, and I loved this.  It’s SO easy to apply, dries in a second and the staying power is amazing. I also want to mention that this is free of animal-derived ingredients and is not tested on animals.  Just a great overall liner.

~ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Brow Gel (.085 oz) ($6.68): This clear gel sets, defines, and holds brows in place all day. I’m a big fan of brow gels (not so much brow fillers though) and thought this was a great one.  It was lightweight, and it didn’t make my brows feel sticky or weird.

~Atelier Cologne Collection Azur – Sud Magnolia (~$2): This scent, which is exclusive to Sephora, has notes of magnolia from Louisiana, bitter orange from Seville, and atlas cedarwood from Morocco.  It’s gorgeous.  It’s not a light summery scent, but rather a heavier fall-like scent.  I only wish the sample was larger.  Or had a sprayer.

~Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation® (0.25fl.oz) ($5.59): I have been a fan of Ole Henriksen for a long time and love when it pops up in subscription boxes (it doesn’t happen a ton).  This is a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer that works for Dryness, Dark Spots, Uneven texture and Uneven skin tone.  It works well (for me), and I wonder why I ever stopped using it?

~Living Proof Perfect Hair Day® Night Cap Overnight Perfector (1fl.oz) ($7): This is to be applied to wet or damp hair before you go to bed.  It does it’s job while you sleep and you wash it out in the morning. It’s said to “provide up to one week of more shiny, vibrant, manageable hair overnight, with benefits that last through five shampoos.”  I have used this in the past and have found that it does its job well.  My only issue is remembering to put it on before bed.

~Swatches: Swatches of the lipstick and eyeliner.  Ignore the brown under the liner.  I was testing out a brow filler, and it would not come off!

All totaled I came up with a value of $31.64 for the September 2016 Play! by Sephora box.  I was very happy with this box and think they do an amazing job with their boxes!
