Birchbox
Cost: $10/month
Ships To: United States.
Coupon Code: Subscription Box: See below.
Birchbox offers 4-6 (sometimes more) hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door each month. You can review the samples you receive on a monthly basis to earn points in their shop, which makes the “real” cost of the box even less. Points accumulate until you are ready to spend, so you can stockpile and combine with coupon codes to get some complete steals (which I try to do). Note: July was the last month samples were be able to be reviewed for points. I have been subscribing to Birchbox for over four years now and would say they are one of the most (maybe the most) well-known subscription boxes out there. They are certainly one of the longest lasting boxes.
Birchbox ships via USPS and all boxes generally ship by the 10th of the month.
This review is on the October 2016 Birchbox “Revive and Restore Curated Box.” I purchased it when it was available in the Birchbox Shop for $10 ($15 for non-subscribers). I previously had two subscriptions and would get the curated box on one account and would select a sample for my second account, but once they did away with their point system, I canceled my second subscription. Now I will just pick-up the curated box in the shop if it looks amazing.
The contents of the curated box are always released in advance, so you know exactly what you are getting with this.
The October 2016 Birchbox Curated Box included the following items:
~GLAMGLOW® POWERMUD™ Dualcleanse Treatment (0.5oz) ($20.29): The GLAMGLOW was the main reason I picked up this box in the Birchbox shop. This sample alone is 2x the cost of the box. This is thinner than the original GLAMGLOW mask (the one in the black container), but it smells way better (it’s fruity). I’m not sure I would recommend this for the super sensitive skin as it did tingle a bit. It leaves my skin feeling incredibly clean, and I couldn’t be happier.
~Avène Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Cream RICH (0.5oz) ($11.85): This is a very rich and thick moisturizer. I’m going to save mine for this winter when the air is super dry, and I need it the most.
~This Works deep sleep pillow spray (5mL) ($1.93): This spray is made with 100% pure essential oils, including calming lavender, patchouli, and chamomile. I haven’t been having too much trouble sleeping lately, but I love the smell of this. I found it very calming and relaxing.
~Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo (43mL) ($6.62): Great dry shampoo! I don’t know if I have tried the Oribe “Gold Lust” before, but I do love their products. This smells good (amazing actually) and helps my 2nd-day hair not look like 2nd-day hair.
~MAKE Silk Cream Lipstick – Magnolia (~$3): The cuteness of this sample is too much! It reminds me of those little Avon lipsticks that I thought were the coolest when I was younger. I am never overly excited about lipstick in boxes, but my SIL will be so I will pass this on to her.
~Mystery Sample Pack: Since I purchased this box from the Birchbox Shop (along with a few other things), I was able to add a Mystery Sample Pack (free with a $35+ shop purchase) to my cart. I received a tiny MAKE eyeshadow and a good-sized Ouidad Climate Control Heat and Humidity Gel.
All totaled I came up with a value of $43.69 for the October 2016 Birchbox “Revive and Restore” Curated Box. It was a great value and a great all-around box. Probably one of the best-curated boxes they have done to date. Sadly this curated box is now sold out in the shop, but you can still sign up for an October Birchbox subscription.
Now thru 10.25.16, new subscribers can use coupon code “SMOOTHIE” to get a FREE The Beauty Crop PBJ Smoothie Stick with all new Birchbox subscription purchases! Note: Your subscription will begin with the October box.
You may want to check your dollar amounts on this one. The Oribe is listed as a value of $0.46 and I’m sure it’s much higher than that, that stuff is pricy!
You are so right! Thank you. I thought it said 3mL on the bottle. It says 43mL! Thanks again!!
I have tried many moisturisers and have found it difficult to find one that gets rid of the tight feeling when my skins dry but this cream has changed all of that. My skin is smooth and soft and hydrated all day. It works as a great primer too and my make up applies like a dream on top of it. I bought the small version when it was on offer as it was recommended by some you tubers and I’m not Disappointed. I’ve tried many creams, serums and oils from high end to boots brand this one is great, will repurchase for sure!
