Mantry (aka the Modern Man’s Pantry) is a bi-monthly food club that lets you discover the finest American artisan foods – and gives you ideas of what to do with them. Mantry has recently made some changes and has decreased (yes, decreased) the price of their boxes from $75 to $49. Boxes will now ship bi-monthly instead of monthly. Your first shipment will also include a Welcome Pack valued at $55.
Mantry ships via USPS. Your first box will ship within 2-6 business days after order date. Orders arrive in a handmade wooden crate which is one of my favorite parts about Mantry.
B (my husband) loves Mantry and was very excited to dig into this box.
The September 2016 Mantry theme was “Out of Africa” and included a glimpse into some of their amazing foods:
~Bob’s Red Mill Golden Couscous ($5.62): Couscous is amazing. It cooks up in minutes and is very filling. You can use it in just about anything from stews to salads, and more and is a great item to always have on hand.
~Entube Harissa ($8): Harissa can be used as a replacement for pretty much any condiment – ketchup, mustard, hot sauce, you name it. The information booklet includes a recipe Harissa Meatballs with Golden Couscous that sounds incredible. If we can wait that long to make them I think it will be a great appetizer for a holiday party.
~Filfil Foods Garlic Sauce ($12): This is made with garlic (lots of garlic) along with a variety of paprikas, oil, vinegar, salt, and spices. The included recipe for this is a Ghee Roast Carrots with Filfil Garlic Hot Sauce. This sounds like an amazing addition to the Thanksgiving table!
~Biltong Braaitime ($10.99): Easily my husband’s favorite item in the box. It’s a blend of coriander, vinegar, salt, pepper and all-natural grass fed beef. I tried it and wasn’t a fan, but I don’t generally like beef jerky either. B loved it and polished off the bag in no time.
~Teapigs Rooibos Tea ($9.99): This tea is naturally caffeine-free. According to the website, it’s an “earthy, mahogany-coloured nectar that gives way to a subtly nutty flavour.” I mention it all the time, but I have never gotten into tea. B will either take this to work or pass it on to a friend.
~4th & Heart Ghee Butter ($11.45): Ghee butter is clarified butter that has been cooked for hours and hours. We tried it on toast, and it’s AMAZING! We (well the boys) are going to make grilled cheese with it tonight. I’ll snapchat the results!
~Coupons, etc.: The box also included a letter from the curator and some coupon codes / offers.
All totaled the September 2016 Mantry had a value of $58.05. We loved this box and were pleased with the value. Now that they have decreased the price it’s time to give Mantry another look!

Looks like a good box. Comes with the added bonus of hearing Toto’s “Africa” in my head for the rest of the day!
LOL! It was in my head too!!!
