Koala Crate is from Kiwi Crate’s line of crates and is designed for preschoolers ages 3-4. The box includes all the materials and inspiration for projects related to a theme such as colors, transportation or safari. Crates are designed to give children exposure to new materials and new concepts that encourage hands-on learning and fun.
Koala Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and usually takes about a week to arrive to me.
W (he’s 4) and I worked on his Koala Crate together over the weekend.
The November 2016 Koala Crate theme is “Dinosaurs” (which is fitting because that’s what W said he was thankful during Thanksgiving – he’s thankful for dinosaurs) and included three projects “dinosaur dress-up”, “clay fossils” and “dino match game”.
Project #1 – Dinosaur Dress-Up
Dinosaur Dress-Up included all of the materials needed to make your own dinosaur costumes for stomping around the house. It was low on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “moving – fine” and “moving – gross”.
This was a huge hit! All I needed to do was tie the elastic straps on the visor and feet and W happily did the rest. He loved wearing it around the house and looked SO cute!
Project #2 – Clay Fossils
Clay Fossils involved putting together skeleton stickers to create some clay fossils. It was medium on the messiness scale (I’d call it low), medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “discovering” and “creating”.
This was another one that required little to no assistance on my part. I explained to him that we needed to put the stickers on the fossil cards and then showed him how to make an imprint and that was that. He was even able to peel the clay off the fossil card without destroying his imprint. I think we made imprints about a dozen times before we finally decided it was time to let them dry. I think he just liked playing with the clay ;).
Project #3 – Dino Match Game
The third (and final) item in the box was Dino Match Game. It included materials to challenge your friends to a fun footprint matching game. It was low on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “moving – fine” and “communicating”.
Now I wasn’t as impressed with this one as W was. He was all into playing, but I didn’t feel like it had a real “end”. Regardless, he had a good time playing and loved spinning the spinner.
imagine! Magazine
As usual, the box also contained an “imagine!” magazine. It has puzzles, stories, games and other project idea relating to this month’s theme.
