W, my 4-year-old, loves seeing those Koala Crate boxes come in the mail!
The December 2016 Koala Crate theme was “snow” and included three projects “snow globe,” “ice painting postcards” and “penguin bowling.”
Project #1 – Snow Globe
Snow Globe included all of the materials to create a cute snowman snow globe with falling snow confetti. It was medium on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “creating” and “moving – fine.”
Our snowman turned out adorable! I was surprised (in a good way) that it was so easy to attach the pieces to the snowman. Oddly, though, the jar has little cutout stars in it (which are cute), but the snow confetti does fall out when you shake it! It’s possible we shook it too much though ;).
Project #2 – Ice Painting Postcards
Ice Painting Postcards included materials to make ice paints and paint beautiful aurora postcards. It was high on the messiness scale, high on the grownup involvement scale and involved “moving – fine” and “discovering.”
Ice Painting Postcards was so fun! You mix the paint powder with water and then freeze overnight. We didn’t mix ours enough, but they still worked great. L (my 8-year-old) even thought painting with these was fun!
Project #3 – Penguin Bowling
Penguin Bowling included materials necessary to decorate some friendly penguin friends and play a bowling game. It was low on the messiness scale, low on the grownup involvement scale and involved “moving – gross” and “creating.”
I think penguin bowling was a project in a previous Kiwi Crate? One from many years ago! We loved bowling but found that the stickers just weren’t sticky enough. They are meant to be reusable (repositionable), but we found that they fell off when we bowled. So we ended up gluing them in place. Way less frustrating!
imagine! Magazine
As usual, the box also contained an “imagine!” magazine. It has puzzles, stories, games and other project idea relating to this month’s theme.
