The February 2017 Bokksu theme was “Kit Lat Love” and included the following items:
~Cranberry and Almond KitKat (Luxury Edition): This KitKat has chunks of whole almonds and cranberries baked into a thick chocolate wafer. These were the fanciest KitKats I have ever tried and I loved them. The cranberries were such a unique addition to this.
~Japanese Sake KitKat (Adult Edition): These were launched in June 2016 and contain 0.8% alcohol. They were probably my least favorite of the bunch. Between the white chocolate (which I don’t generally enjoy) and the strong Sake flavor, I could only manage a few bites.
~Rum Raisin KitKat: The Rum Raisin KitKat is only sold in the Kanto region and has an alcohol content of .056%. I must say, when I opened this I expected it to be blueberry flavored. LOL! To me, blue = blueberry! The rum raisin flavor of this was too much for me.
~Hojicha KitKat (Limited Edition): These are sold only in the Kansai region and are a collaboration between Kit Kat and Itohkyuemon, an artisan Kyoto Tea Maker since 1952. The roasted tea tea is layered into the chocolate and gives off a “delicious, roasted flavor”. I didn’t think this was super green tea heavy, but it was a little still too flavorful for me.
~Matcha KitKat (Adult Edition): Oh yeah, now this is green tea flavored! I have tried these in the past and they are a miss. I don’t like Matcha flavored anything, so I am not surprised this was a miss.
~Wasabi KitKat (Limited Edition): This KitKat has a mild hint of wasabi and is only sold in the Shizuoka Prefecture and Kanto. It totally has a kick to it! I didn’t think so at first, but then it kicked it. Very interesting for sure.
~Strawberry KitKat (Adult Edition): I am not sure I have ever had a regular strawberry KitKat, but this is supposed to have a richer flavor? It was really good. It had a true strawberry flavor and felt like a special treat.
~Original KitKat (Luxury Edition): This is a bit less sweet than the regular version of a KitKat and has added kits of dark chocolate cookie. It’s just as delicious as you would imagine. I think this is my new favorite KitKat!
~Satsumarche Benifuuki Black Tea: Each Bokksu also includes a tea pairing. This month’s tea is extremely high in methylated catechin content, which helps to combat hay fever and seasonal allergies. WHAT? I need this tea in my life. If if really helps with my allergies I will become a tea addict.
I got such a kick out of this month’s Bokksu Box! It was so fun to try all of these KitKats and while I may not have actually liked each one, I LOVED sampling and comparing them.
