Our February 2017 Tinker Crate theme was “Hydraulic Claw” and included instructions and materials to build our own right at home.
Box Note
I feel like I should mention that not all new subscribers will receive the most current Tinker Crate box. The newest Tinker Crate this month was “The Wooden Crane Crate,” but we received an older box as we haven’t been subscribers that long. It was “new to us,” but it’s something to keep in mind if you have your heart set on getting the newest boxes.
B (my husband) and L (our 8-year-old) worked on this one together. These are on the more challenging side for L (he’s on the lower age range of this), but enjoys the process.
The first step was to build the hydraulic assembly. Somewhere along the way (early on in the process I believe), B pretty much claimed this project as his own (and loved every second of it). L moved on to working on the February Kiwi Crate with W and I and just let B (mainly) handle this one.
The instructions aren’t always the clearest for Tinker Crate, but they do have YouTube videos if you get stuck somewhere in the building process.
All Done
It worked! Our video isn’t the best quality, but you get the idea. The boys have been working on picking up small items with this and are pretty excited it worked!
Each box also includes the Tinker Zine, which includes additional science activities and experiments relating to the theme.
