Birchbox
 Boxes have such fun packaging!

Birchbox reveals the contents of their limited edition boxes in advance, but they are still quite fun to open.

The Birchbox Limited Edition “Do Not Disturb” box included the following items:

~JUARA Candlenut Body Creme (1.5oz) ($7): This body cream is free from parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral oil, gluten, artificial colorants and harsh chemicals.  It has a light tropical scent and is super moisturizing, without being greasy.  The full-size was in a POPSUGAR box earlier in the year, and I am happy to get this travel-size here.

~Tata Harper Rejuvenating Serum (10mL) ($32.67): Tata Harper is one brand I would LOVE to see more of subscription boxes.  This serum reduces signs of aging while also giving your skin the moisture it needs. It smells good and left my skin feeling silky smooth. This is a generous sample-size and should be enough to tell if it works for my skin (i.e. if it makes me look younger).

~Wilma Schumann Skincare Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads (2 Pairs) ($7.20): These reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and puffiness around your eye area.  Puffiness is my biggest eye issue, and these worked amazing.  They left my eyes feeling refreshed and much less puffy.

~Lollia by Margot Elena Shea Butter Handcreme in Relax (1.25oz) ($15): This shea butter hand cream is lavender & honey scented and felt like a treat to put on.  It’s rich and hydrating, and the packaging is lovely.

~Kérastase Nutritive Masquintense (75mL) ($23.44): This hair mask replenishes damaged hair from the inside out.  You apply it to wet hair and leave it n for 5-10 minutes.  I need to remember that you focus on “mid-lengths to ends” with this (and all masks really).  I have a tendency to focus on the scalp and probably aren’t getting the best results that way.

~Smith & Cult Nailed Lacquer (Exit the Void) ($18): Boxes will include either receive Exit the Void (as I did) or Fauntleroy.  I have a similar shade to this, so I am going to pass it on to a friend.  Smith & Cult has the most gorgeous bottles, don’t they?

~Erno Laszlo Firm & Lift Hydrogel Mask ($16): This is a fancy sheet mask and one I would probably never purchase on my own ($16 for a sheet mask is pretty spendy for me).  But that’s why I love subscription boxes!  They send me things I wouldn’t be able to or would be scared to try otherwise.  I am putting this one away to try when I need to look good quick.  It is supposed to “reveal supple contours, greater elasticity, and fewer signs of fine lines after just 20 minutes.”

~TokyoMilk Dark Lip Elixir in Pretty Rotten No. 33 ($7): This is a very heavy, ultra moisturizing lip balm.  It’s also quite strongly scented, which may turn some people off. Pretty Rotton No. 33 has flavor notes of Ambrosia Apple, Rosewater, Spun Sugar, Honeycomb which all sound good, but for some reason, it’s just not a love for me.

~Marcelle Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover for Sensitive Eyes (50mL) ($5.67): This eye make-up remover is hypoallergenic, gluten-free, and perfume-free, so it works for even the most sensitive eyes.  I used it to remove from swatches from my arm and was pleased with it.

~Kusmi Tea Paris Be Cool Tea Tin (~$6): Tea is generally a miss for me, so I will be passing this on to my cousin.  It is caffeine free and is described as having the “subtle sweetness of licorice mingled with tummy-settling peppermint.”

~Kusmi Tea Paris Tea Ball Infuser ($5.90): The box also included a hot pink tea ball infuser to use with the included loose leaf tea!

~Votivo® Aromatic Candle in St. Germain Lavender  ($12): This 4oz candle has 30-40 hours of burn time.  It smells amazing (it’s subtle), and I love this brand.

~Dylan’s Candy Bar Gummy Bear Stack A-Round ($14): Gummy bears!  Everyone in my house enjoyed these fancy gummy bears.

~Parker Thatch Eye Mask ($25):  This mask is comfortable and not so wild that you’d feel weird wearing it on an airplane.

~The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living by Meik Wiking ($11.99):  Hygee is “is a sense of comfort, togetherness, and well-being” and this book offers advice and tips for incorporating some of the Danish ways of life into your own.  The Danish people are the happiest in the world, so clearly we need tips from them on how they do it!

From Amazon:
Embrace Hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) and become happier with this definitive guide to the Danish philosophy of comfort, togetherness, and well-being.

Why are Danes the happiest people in the world? The answer, says Meik Wiking, CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, is Hygge. Loosely translated, Hygge—pronounced Hoo-ga—is a sense of comfort, togetherness, and well-being. “Hygge is about an atmosphere and an experience,” Wiking explains. “It is about being with the people we love. A feeling of home. A feeling that we are safe.”

Hygge is the sensation you get when you’re cuddled up on a sofa, in cozy socks under a soft throw, during a storm. It’s that feeling when you’re sharing comfort food and easy conversation with loved ones at a candlelit table. It is the warmth of morning light shining just right on a crisp blue-sky day.

The Little Book of Hygge introduces you to this cornerstone of Danish life, and offers advice and ideas on incorporating it into your own life, such as:

  • Get comfy. Take a break.
  • Be here now. Turn off the phones.
  • Turn down the lights. Bring out the candles.
  • Build relationships. Spend time with your tribe.
  • Give yourself a break from the demands of healthy living. Cake is most definitely Hygge.
  • Live life today, like there is no coffee tomorrow.

From picking the right lighting to organizing a Hygge get-together to dressing hygge, Wiking shows you how to experience more joy and contentment the Danish way.

All totaled I came up with an (estimated) value of $206.87 for the Birchbox Limited Edition “Do Not Disturb”.  According to the website the box has a value of $229+ which is probably true.  I did some estimating and used the current (not retail) price of the book.  All that said, this was probably my favorite Birchbox Limited Edition box to date.  I just loved it and thought that the value was amazing.
