According to this Forbes article, Birchbox will be making some updates to their points loyalty system in Spring 2017. I am anxious to see what this update will bring. Hopefully good things! Any thoughts?
Previous Birchbox Points System
Previously, Birchbox offered 10 points (aka $1 to spend in the Birchbox Shop) for every product reviewed from your monthly box PLUS 10 points per dollar spent in their shop. So if you received 5 products in your box, you could review them and get $5 in Shop credit. Products could be reviewed monthly.
Current Birchbox Points System
Currently, Birchbox offers 10 points for the FIRST 5 items received / reviewed in your subscription. This is a lifetime limit and products can no longer be reviewed monthly for points. The 10 points per $1 Shop purchased still applies.
What is Birchbox?
Birchbox ($10/month) offers 4-6 (sometimes more) hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door each month.
Cost: $10/month

Good. I’m sure their number of subscribers was seriously hurt by that change back then. If they were smart, they would have eased into it instead of wham bam, 5 a month to 5 a lifetime.
I canceled my sub then because it ticked me off so much. I was using those points and spending way more in the shop that should have made it worth it to them. And I’m sure there were a ton of people who didn’t bother to review at all. I’m sure the cancellations hurt them worse than offering people too many shop points.
