The January 2018 GlobeIn Artisan Box “Sophisticate” themed box included the following items:
1) Ikat Wallet, India, 4.5” x 7.5” (Retail $30): This wallet was made by the artisans with The Village Experience. The focus of this organization is to preserve local techniques, infusing elements of fashion, and providing sustainable income. It’s large enough for all your essentials, and my iPhone even fits inside!
2) Earth & Fire Necklace, India, 2.25″ x 1 7/8″, 15″ drop ($22): This necklace is made by the artisans with Matr Boomie. Matr Boomie has been featured in GlobeIn on many occasions and pays their artisans fair trade prices while investing in artisan health and wellness.
3) Brave Bracelet, Uganda (Retail $25): The Brave Bracelet is handcrafted in Uganda by the Sseko team. It opens up, and you can purchase interchangeable charm pieces to add to your bracelet that signifies a moment, decision or dream. Sseko helps enable young women to attend university by hiring them during their nine-month gap between secondary school and university. This allows them to earn money that will go directly towards their education. At the end of the nine months, Sseko will match 100% of their savings with a college scholarship
4) Decorative Tray, India, 6” x 6″ (Retail $15): This gorgeous tray is made out of 100% recycled cotton paper. Discarded cotton scraps from the textile industry are broken down into fibers using a traditional wheel press and then soaked, strained, pressed, dried, and ironed. The tray can be used on your nightstand as a catch-all for jewelry, lip balms, etc. or on your desk to hold notes.
