I reviewed the Kroger Prep + Pared meal kits a while back (you can check out my reviews here and here) and now that they have switched to the Home Chef Kits I thought it was time to review those as well! If you are not familiar, you can subscribe to Home Chef and have boxes delivered to your door OR you can pick up a kit in-store from your local Kroger / Kroger affiliate (check here for a store near you).  If you subscribe online and opt for 3 meals per week, 2 servings per meal, each kit is $19.90.  Kits in-store vary in price from $16.99 to $18.99.

Options
My local Kroger had six different kits to choose from when I was there including: Chicken Kiev with Goat Cheese Butter, Steak Burrito Bowl with Corn and Crispy Tortilla Strips, Salmon with Brown-Butter Tomato Relish, Pork Chop with Mushroom Gravy, Cheddar Chicken Mac & Cheese with Green Onions and Sunday Supper Pot Roast Steak. Options change weekly.

Our Selection

We opted for the Steak Burrito Bowl with Corn and Crispy Tortilla Strips.  It was $18.99 (Buy One Get one 50% off with our Kroger Plus Card) and included:
~10 oz. Steak Strips
~8 oz. Cooked Mexican Rice
~2 oz. Sour Cream
~2 fl. oz. Red Enchilada Sauce
~5 oz. Corn Kernels
~2 Green Onions
~½ oz. Tortilla Strips
~2 tsp. Fajita Seasoning
~1 oz. Queso Fresco

As soon as I got home from the grocery store I popped this into the fridge.  There must have been some moisture on the bottom because the recipe card ended up completely stuck to the bottom of the box.  Everything else was perfect, but the recipe card was toast.

Instructions / Recipe Card

Happily, I was able to locate the exact recipe from the Home Chef website! I LOVE that this was available. We have saved all our favorite meal cards from meal kit boxes we have received over the years and recreate the meals with ingredients we buy from the store.

The Result

Believe it or not, I ended up making this myself (my husband usually makes our subscription box meals).  I found the recipe to be super easy to follow and it was delicious.  And unlike the old Prep+Pared meals, the cooking times were spot on. We agreed that we would be recreating this one down the road too!

Does your local store carry Home Chef Meal Kits? If you have tried them, what’d you think?
