Play! by Sephora Review - August 2019

Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box program. Each month subscribers will receive a box of deluxe samples, along with an exclusive PLAY! BOOK — packed with helpful advice — and a PLAY! PASS to redeem in store for a free one-on-one learning session with a beauty expert. The six product samples in your PLAY! by SEPHORA box are from the same prestige brands Sephora carries in store and online, and they are sized to use multiple times.

Play! by Sephora ships via USPS.  All Play! by Sephora, boxes should arrive between the third and fourth week of each month.

Play! by Sephora has switched to recycled bags (they previous sent cloth bags) and I love them. I usually ended up tossing the drawstring cloth ones, but I will save these resealable ones.

The August 2019 Play! by Sephora theme is “Your Beauty Sidekicks” and included the following items:

~Nars Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil in Dance Fever (0.06oz / 1.8g) ($20.25): Dance Fever is a rose brown matte finish lipstick pencil.  It goes on creamy and with a balm underneath or a light layer of gloss on top, OMG.  Stunning.

~Bareminerals Dew Mist Setting Spray (10mL / 0.33fl.oz) ($2.72): This is billed as a glow-giving setting spray that locks makeup in place, hydrates skin, and refreshes the look of your complexion.  I don’t love it.  I felt like it gave me too much glow and a little too much shine.

~GlamGlow Supertoner Exfoliating Acid Solution Toner (0.24 fl.oz. / 7mL) ($1.47):  Supertoner is a shake-to-activate pore clarifying toner with clay, charcoal, and six acids to help exfoliate, purify, and clarify the skin’s complexion.  I love a good toner and this is one of the best I have come across.  I used it during a recent breakout and it helped my skin clear up more quickly than normal.  I’m a fan!

~Sunday Riley A+ High-Dose Retinol Serum (0.17fl.oz / 5mL) ($14.17): I love when Sunday Riley comes in a subscription box!  I have used this serum before and it’s amazing.  It helps with fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots and made my skin firmer and just overall better.  Good stuff!

~Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator (0.5oz / 15mL) ($12): Moisture Surge gives you 72-hours of non-stop hydration.  I don’t know when I go 72 hours between washing my face, but this is here for me if the need arises. I think it would be ideal for a long flight!

~Briogeo Farewell Frizz Blow Dry Protection Heat Protectant Creme (0.75fl.oz / 22mL) ($4.47): Typically the 6th item in Play! boxes are a small packet of shampoo or a tiny perfume vial.  Not this month! I don’t necessarily have a problem with frizziness, but I do have an issue with flyaways and just a dab of this did the trick.  It also added shine which was a bonus.

All totaled my August 2019 Play! by Sephora had a value of about $56!  WOW.  Now that is a great box.  So many great products from top brands in the industry.  This just might be my new favorite Play! box!

What did you think of the August 2019 Play! by Sephora? One thing to keep in mind is that Play! sends out a variety of boxes each month, so you may end up receiving a different box than your best friend who is also a subscriber. If you are interested in subscribing (and you probably should be because their boxes are great), you can check them out here.
