January 2015 Birchbox – “Tone It Up”

My second January 2015 Birchbox has (finally) arrived!  For the first time ever Birchbox had, not one, but two Guest Editor boxes.  I opted for the regular Birchbox on one of my accounts and went for the Birchbox + Tone It Up Box, which is the box I am reviewing here, on my second account.

If you aren’t familiar, Birchbox, which is $10/month, offers 4-6 (sometimes more) hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door each month. You can review the samples you receive on a monthly basis to earn points in their shop, which makes the “real” cost of the box even less. Points accumulate until you are ready to spend, so you can stockpile and combine with coupon codes and get some complete steals (which I try to do).

The Box

My Birchbox went on a journey this month!  It was all over the east coast this month and took nearly 10 days to arrive to me.  Some months it takes just three days.  Not this time!

The “Tone It Up” Box

The Tone It Up + Birchbox box didn’t have it’s own special box, but it had a wrap on the fun Birchbox box all of the subscribers received this month.

First Look

Is it just me, or does the first look match the wrap on the front of this box?  I wonder if they planned that?  The colors were so similar!

The Information Card

The January 2015 Tone It Up + Birchbox box included the following items to help you enjoy your active life in style:

~Aquareveal Satin Bright Soft Peek for Face ($7.35): I think this was the item I was most excited about in this box.  It’s totally new to me and made my skin feel smooth right away. And it didn’t leave it all red like some “peels” do.

~Coastal Scents Revealed Palette (~$2): I actually have the full palette of this from last month’s BOXYCHARM, so I will be passing this one on to a friend.  The colors are great and this would be nice for a gym bag.

~Coola Environmental Repair Plus Radical Recovery After-Sun Lotion ($2.67): If only I needed some after-sun lotion.  LOL!  I have used this before and it does feel nice on your skin after a long day outside.

~Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk ($6.50): I love dry shampoo and this is a great one.  Just make not to spray it too close to your roots

~Whish Three Whishes Body Butter – Lavender ($3.52): The lavender scent is pretty strong at first, but it settles in nicely and is very wearable.  It’s totally true though that a little of this goes a long way.  Not only because of the scent, but it’s very moisturizing so you don’t need a ton.

All totaled I came up with a value of $22.50 for the January Tone It Up + Birchbox Guest Editor box. I knew exactly what was coming in this box (Birchbox reveals the contents of their Guest Editor boxes when you make your sample choice selection) and while I didn’t think it was a “wow” box, it’s all very practical and will be used.  Including the points I get for reviewing the items (5 items = 50 points = $5 to spend in the Birchbox Shop), sharing my review on Facebook (10 points = $1 Birchbox Shop dollar) and purchasing the box itself (10 points = $1 Birchbox Shop dollar), the value of the box increases to $29.50.  You really can’t get that Birchbox point system!

What’d you get in your Birchbox this month?  If you are interested in subscribing you can use coupon code “BBSTORE100” to get 100 extra Birchbox points (which is equal to $10 to spend in the Shop) with any subscription purchase. Considering that the box itself is only $10/month, that’s a pretty hot deal if you ask me!

If you go into your account and click on “Your Box” tab in the top menu bar and then “This Month’s Box” it will take you to a page where you can share on Facebook for the points. Here’s a picture! Hope this helps!
