Koala Crate March 2015 Subscription Box

Koala Crate is from Kiwi Crate’s new line of crates and is designed for preschoolers ages 3-4.  The box includes all the materials and inspiration for projects related to a theme such as colors, transportation or safari. Crates are designed to give children exposure to new materials and new concepts that encourage hands-on learning and fun.

The Box

Koala Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post.  Once it shipped it took about a week to arrive.  This month’s box was later than normal, but they communicated the issues well and also didn’t bill subscribers until the 15th of March.

First Look

Koala Crate always come very neatly packaged and all of the pieces are sealed in clear pouches.  Even if your little one dumps out the entire box when they open it, you won’t lose anything.

The Projects

The March 2015 Koala Crate theme was bugs and included the following three projects:

Project #1 – Bug Dress Up

Bug Dress Up – The Materials

Bug Dress Up allowed you to create and design your own bug costume with wings and antennae.  It involved “creating” and “moving – fine” and was low on the messiness scale and medium on the grown-up involvement scale.

WB had a better time making this than he did wearing it.  LOL!  He did get a little frustrated with the sticky felt pieces.  They were SO sticky so he had a hard time getting them off his hands on onto the wings.  But had they had to be sticky to make the project work.

Project #2 – Bug Matching Game

Bug Matching Game – The Materials

Bug Matching Game included a set of cards used to closed find the matching bugs in this game of observation.  It involved “communicating” and “discovering”, was low on the messiness scale and medium on the grown-up involvement scale.  WB got the general idea of it, but need some help with the smaller details on the bugs.  I think next time we’ll play with less cards to make it a little easier.

Project #3 – Bug Eye Viewer

The third project in the box was Bug Eye Viewer and included the materials needed to see the world like a bug and explore creating kaleidoscope patterns.  The project involved “discovering” and “exploring”, was low on the messiness scale and low on the grown-up involvement scale.

Bug Eye Viewer – Playing

WB loved this project!  He loved looking at the bugs on the cards and using the bug eye viewer to check out everything else around the house too.
