This month’s project was Wood Burning 3-Pack Kit. Adults & Crafts had a somewhat similar kit back in October 2016, but they have done some revamping to the subscription, and the kits are now bigger now.
The box included full instructions, with labeled steps and pictures.
Materials
Materials included were:
- Wood Burning Tool
- Carving Block
- Three Natural Wood Coasters
- Recipe Box
- Designs
- Transfer Paper
- Memo Pins
- Practice Wood
- Foam Brush
- Gloss Finish
Additional supplies needed were: Electrical outlet, scissors, pen/pencil, and tape.
The box included a few designs to give you ideas of what to do for your project, but you were also free to branch out on your own. I opted to print a few Halloween designs to use for myself.
The Project
For the coasters, I opted for a simple pumpkin design. I did all three with the same design to keep things simple.
Tracing the designs on is the easy part of wood burning ;).
My coasters didn’t turn out perfect, but they did get better the more I did ;). I quickly learned that it’s easier to turn the coasters than it is to turn the wood burning tool.
Carving Block
I got a little ambitious and decided to go for a Trick or Treat Halloween design for the carving block. I should have known this was above my skill set with all those curves, but I went for it anyway!
The webs weren’t too hard! I do have a lot of pencil lines to clean up, but I will get that figured out.
This was difficult! All things considered, though I am pretty happy with it. Plus, my 9-year-old was impressed by it!
Recipe Box
I am still deciding what to do with my recipe box, so I haven’t gotten started on that one yet. I want “Recipe” in a cool, but not super hard to burn font, so I need to keep looking.
All Finished
Not too bad! I am going to clean them up a little more (get the pencil lines off) and then apply the gloss finish.
Final Thoughts
I had a great time with this month’s Adults & Crafts! I may not be an expert wood burner (or even close), but I had a great time being crafty and learned a little too.
