Where Would You Live?

If given the choice of anywhere in the world to live, where would you pick? While I love to travel to other countries, I have to admit, there is no place like the United States.  So until they get a Target on Champs d’Elysees, the chances of me moving overseas are less than slim.  But if you move there, I’d love to come visit!

Here are my top picks:
San Diego: What is not to like about San Diego?  Beautiful weather all year around, a great downtown area and the beach.  It’s close to LA, but not too close.  And it’s within driving distance to Vegas.  And I think L would love SD.  I really can’t think of any reason why I wouldn’t want to live in San Diego.
San Francisco: I wouldn’t want to live in downtown SF, but just somewhere in the Bay Area that would allow me to visit lots.  Because I would for sure want a car and I wouldn’t want to deal with it in the city.  I’d need a car so that I would be able to visit Napa and Sonoma, of course!  I could have cool weather or hot weather depending on my mood.
SEC Land: I’m thinking like Arkansas, Alabama, etc.  I’d hang out with Kelly Stamps and her friends and I’d spend my days cooking for B and L, going to fabulous play date parties with L and doing tons of crafty stuff.  Oh wait, I’d also host many fabulous themed parties for my friends.  I’d dress up for football games in my school colors and wear monagrammed clothes.
New York City: It’s no secret that I am a suburbs girl.  I drive everywhere.  So it would be a huge adjustment for me to live in a city.  But if I was going to do it, NYC would be my place.  I love the excitement that the city brings, the restaurants, the shopping, the entertainment, etc.  Plus, there is now a Target in Manhattan, so that’d be perfect.

Now that I have talked about my dream places to live, I think it’s only fair to talk about the finer points of my city (which I consider to be the “D” since I live in one of its suburbs). The “D” (aka Detroit) tends to get a bad rap from people. Some of that is totally fair, but much of it is not. We have the casinos, all 4 major sports teams (The Tigers, The Red Wings, The Lions and the Pistons), great museums, fine dining, and so much more. And no, you don’t need to bring a gun. Yeah, you may not want to end up in certain neighborhoods in the city at night, but I am pretty sure there are places like that in every city. We have some of the nicest people in the country here. We are polite and are eager to show our city off to tourists. But if you come, rent a car if you come visit since we have no public transportation at all! As for the Metro Detroit area as a whole, it’s great because there is always something going on. If we want to go out and have some family fun on the weekend, we always have our choice between multiple different fun events. Plus, we have all four seasons here, which I know I would totally miss.

So where would you live? And tell me what you love about your current city? If I were to come visit, what would I need to make sure to see?

Spread the love

I love your list! SF and NYC will probably fall on my short list also. I’m new-ish to my city only having been here for almost a year. I’m still adjusting and finding my way around. I like Virginia as a whole, if we were to move again, which I know we will sometime in the near future, it would have to be back to Richmond or maybe further North to Alexandria/Fairfax.

I recently discovered your blog and have never commented before. I live in San Diego and the weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day are pure hell because of summer traffic. Other then that it’s a great city. We also have a three story Super Target in Midtown, and 10 or 12 Target’s overall.

Omg come to the bay!!!! You would LOVE it here. The suburbs here are amazing and I’m only 20 from SF. I’m there all the time. Plus you and B would make amazing Giants fans 😉 and to answer the question: where I’m at, LA, or in SF. I’d also be down to be nomadic.

My dream is to live in New York. I’d probably stay for a year and get sick of it. I’m also contemplating Kansas City and Seattle for internships next summer so we’ll see! I love love love Maine and wouldn’t mind living there either. (Winters might be hard though)

I didn’t know you read Kelly Stamps’ blog! I’m a follower also and love reading about her and her girls. NWA is crazy about football but so is every southern state.

When coming to Tulsa you’ll need a car. no walking here. I don’t really know what all is fun to do here (I’m pretty bored with it) but there’s the Oklahoma Aquarium that would be great for L!!! There’s a huge amount of dumb Sooner fans in Tulsa. (They need to go back to Norman). Big 12 rivalry between Oklahoma State and crappy University of Oklahoma. Everyone here is big into football and basketball now that we have the OKC Thunder!

I love your list! But I’m a biased Californian. And I would LOVE to live in SD, but right now I’m only 2 hours drive from central SD and 4 hours from Vegas. I’m also 20 mins from Disneyland, 30 mins from the beach and LA, and 1 hour from the mountains. So, I’m okay with where I live :0)

So happy to see my city (SD) on your list! Come visit! I have thought about this a lot lately, and while it’s hard to top San Diego, I would also love to live back in Chicago! I think I could be happy in Denver, too, and I’ve heard great things about Seattle and places like Charlotte, North Carolina, but never been to either.

I really wish I lived back in San Diego. It really was a dream place to live in.
