So this weekend my brother and SIL had a garage sale. None of us have ever had a garage sale before (at least one that we were like in charge of), so I don’t think we knew what we were in for. Since I am SO smart, I waited until the last minute to gather / price and bring all my stuff to their house for the sale. I was planning on B being home from his trip (he was out of town all week) on Thursday afternoon to help out, so I wasn’t too worried about getting it done while he was gone. Turns out Delta had some other plans for me. Due to mechanical issues, B’s flight got canceled. So while he sat at the airport in Little Rock for 8 HOURS waiting on his new flight (it was the best that Delta could do), I got my act together and started grabbing things to sell! Had I started sooner, I likely would have gathered a ton more crap great stuff. As it was I filled up a large SUV, plus B brought some of the heavy stuff the morning of the sale.
My brother, SIL and her family did 99% of the work and I’d say I did 1% (I made / bought signs). I bet you want me to participate in your next garage sale huh? Perhaps next year I will be more helpful. I can’t make any promises though ;). So anyways, the sale went very well. We made some cash and got rid of lots of stuff. What’s better is that we got rid of all of our big stuff (i.e. kids Jeep, tv stand, fire pit, etc). As I was leaving the sale on Saturday, I instructed B (who stayed to help clean up), to take whatever didn’t sell (minus some books and one or two other things) to the Salvation Army on the way home to donate. Why even bother bringing it back in the house?? Not happening!
And what did the kids do during the sale? Well, L spent most of his time running in and out of my brothers house in search of their cats. They have two and we have none (and will never get any. ever.), so he was all about finding them, petting them, etc. He also raided their pantry a million times and drank 7-Up (a rare treat). W spent his time getting spoiled by my SIL’s mom, who is now his new BFF. He now spends his days wondering where that lady who holds his sucky in his mouth for him is!!!
Next year we plan to: 1) Get our stuff gathered and priced sooner. 2) Organize the stuff tables the night before so they could be easily pulled out the first morning of the sale. 3) Get more signs. 4) Price everything. 5) Don’t put things in the sun that can melt (i.e. candles). I can’t think of anything else right now. Do you have any garage / yard sale tips?? Please share!!!
Just looking at that picture made me sweat. I forgot to add that in my description on the blog, but damn it was hot!
