Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.I have talked about Black Friday a few times on here, but now that it’s getting closer and the ads are out, I gotta know. Are you going out shopping? And if you are, where are you going? After dinner Thursday or early Friday morning. I have gone out a few Black Fridays, but I have never ever waited in any crazy lines or been part of a stampede at Walmart or anything. Now I have camped out overnight to get Final Four tickets (GO GREEN!) and waited in line for a few hours for a Wii when they were super hard to get, but I have never slept at Best Buy for a week in an effort to get a crappy $200 laptop or whatever.
Now I can maybe see doing it for the fun aspect, if you are into that kind of thing that is. I imagine it’s a party atmosphere and people get super into it with their fancy tents and all that, so it’s not totally awful and boring. But still I can’t see myself doing it. Don’t get me wrong, I love me a good deal, but I do not love fighting with other people to do it. I might venture out to Target mid-morning. And maybe one or two more places which I haven’t figured out yet. Alone of course. Because little kids + black friday = no way. And I have already started doing some pre-Black Friday shopping online. I got WB some Green Toys from Groupon yesterday and then bought L and WB some things from Ecomom. They are having a great deal right, which is way better explained here than I would ever do, and I got $102 worth of toys / books (no tax and free shipping) for $42! Not too bad. And guess what? I’m almost done shopping for the kids.
Okay, so tell me, are you going out for Black Friday? If so, where? What are you in search of? Something specific or is it an annual tradition? And if you have heard about any great deals lately, I want to hear!
For the past 10 years, 7 members of my husbands family (me included) have got BF shopping. We rent a 15 passenger van. Take the back row out. We leave around 4am home around midnight. We always have a nice sit down dinner somewhere and follow the same store “pattern” year after year. This is the first year we are not going. I am going with friends instead. I never really go for the sales, just the fun. If I score a bargain, its a bonus.
I’ve gone out every year for the past 5 years. It’s crazy, but it’s also fun! I will be going out again this year, but I’m not sure where yet. I probably won’t decide until Thursday when I have the ads in my hands. I look at them online, but for some reason I like to actually flip through them and circle the deals I am going for. I also don’t have one particular item that I am looking for. I’ll be going to the store with the best deals on general toys. I’m not thrilled about the stores that are opening at 8 on Thursday, I prefer the midnight openings, then I have plenty of time to get in line, I’m not going to cut my time with my family short to go shopping.
The thought of BF Shopping gives me hives! ha! I have friends who go every year and they morph into these strange, competitive, frankly nutty people and come back with stories of screaming matches and rude behavior…..not my idea of fun. That may make me sound like a stick in the mud, but I swear I’m not! I don’t like confrontation on a normal day let alone on the morning after (evening of!) one of my favorite holidays!
Sounds like maybe the way the two previous commenters do it leads to more fun and less screaming…that I might be able to get on board with. 🙂
I’m going to wait and maybe go in the afternoon on black friday. I’m pretty much done shopping for the older boys, just need the stocking stuffers. All of Nathaniel’s stuff I think I am going to get online.
I usually go out for fun. Think I’ll skip this year – no must haves and no one to go with. Will be looking online of course. There are some things I plan to order whether they go on sale or not so hoping for a deal or free shipping at least. I plan to go out Saturday to get the Small Business Saturday AMEX Deal (http://www.americanexpress.com/us/small-business/Shop-Small/). Planning on just buy stocking stuffers at one of our local toy stores.
I’ve gone Black Friday shopping for the past few years now. We usually go to Macy’s at midnight since you don’t have to wait in line to get in (the only lines are to pay and I make, I mean *ask* my bf to stand in line for me while I shop). Then we go to the bigger stores like Target or Best Buy just to see what’s left. Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday and there is no way I would miss spending time with my family just for a crappy laptop of tv even if it was free!
