This month’s Birchbox didn’t arrive as quickly as last month’s box, but you can’t always get them super early! I’d say this month’s Birchbox was right on time.
The theme of the January Birchbox is “Best Year Ever” and includes a fold-out poster with 25 ideas for ways to maximize your personal happiness. As always, I have no idea how the “theme” relates to the products in the box. Sometimes I get the men’s box themes, but I never understand the woman’s.
I never know what sized samples to expect (it’s so hard to tell from the pictures), but I was happy to see that the lotion was a nice size!
I received Box #32 this month. There were 34 different combinations this month. Most of the boxes had 5 products. Only a few had 4 or 6. If you want to check them all out, go here. I wasn’t really overly excited about any of the boxes this month (nothing in them really wow’ed me), but this also wasn’t a box I was dreading.
Here’s what was inside:
~Harvey Prince Ageless – Pink Grapefruit ($4.90): I’m not a fan of grapefruit anything, so I thought for sure I’d hate this. I am pleased to report I am totally wrong and LOVE this. Like love. Like maybe even enough to buy a bottle.
~My™ Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer ($11.33): This cream is suppose to “tighten and firm skin to combat the signs of aging”, which is clearly something I need. Listen, I’m not getting any younger over here and I am guessing those years of working on my tan aren’t going to be doing me any favors. I can only hope this doesn’t become a new holy grail product because it’s a little spendy. I may need to save up my points!
~Kérastase Masque Chroma Riche – Treat ($9.15): I LOVE when we get hair product samples, so I am all over this. I only wish the container was better so I could store it more easily after I opened it. I was happy to see two packets as I was only expecting one! This is something I would never buy (I don’t splurge on hair stuff), so I cannot wait to use it. I’m planning on coloring my hair this week, so I think I will use it soon after that.
~alessandro Cream Rich ($9): Having little kids and changing a baby’s diaper means I wash my hands no less than a thousand times a day. I am looking forward to trying this!
~Lashem Double Trouble Mascara ($3 – est.): I’m always up for trying new mascaras, so I love this. And the container is super cute, so that is always fun. I am throwing this in my bag right now so I will always have it with me.
All totaled, I received products totaling $37.38 in this months box. Plus $5 in Birchbox Bucks (5 products to review = 50 points) makes my box worth $42.38. In comparison, last month’s box was worth $19.66. As always, it’s more than the $10 I spent on the box (really $9 because you get 10 points for buying the box), so I am super happy with this months box.
If you subscribe to Birchbox, what did you get this month? Were you happy? And if you don’t subscribe, isn’t it about time you did? Click here to get on the waiting list.
I’m getting box#10 and while I’m not disappointed with it, I’m not really excited about it either. I purchased an annual subscription to Birchbox but I think once my year is up I will switch to Ipsy. Although, I just read your January Ipsy post and it sounds like you prefer Birchbox. Any particular reason why? I like the fact that it seems like Ipsy gives out larger samples while I get foil packets worth of lotion from Birchbox.
I think it’s the surprise element of Birchbox and the fact that it doesn’t much as many make-up products as ipsy. I loved ipsy this month but I think it’s because it didn’t have any make-up!
Thanks for your reviews on subscription boxes. I’ve subscribed to Birchbox for a year now, and feel like some months are better then others, but always worth the ten dollars I pay for it.
I have a question for you about receiving 10 points for each box. I received 10 points when I first signed up, but I don’t get them every month. I do the reviews and get points that way, but just wondering if I missing out on the monthly 10 points you point out. Any suggestions? (I don’t have an annual membership, so maybe that’s it?)
I was thinking the same thing. I actually emailed them with that question last month and they replied that we don’t receive points for purchasing the box. I’m on a month-to-month as well, so maybe it is indeed different than those on subscription.
I bought an annual subscription so I got the 110 points when I paid for the annual subscription. It’s not exactly $1/month, but close. I guess I didn’t realize that you don’t get them if you are on a month to month subscription?
I think it is the annual membership. I tried to explain below.
I read that some get a certain number and this means your box is nicer. I do not understand the numbers pertaining to the BB . My box is not really nice and the samples are so small and if you could get a certain number and pay more I would like this.
I got the “ageless” perfume, too, and LOVED it. I never like any perfume. I actually am considering buying it as well! Good find.
It’s amazing right???
I didnt get any of these things in my jan birch box. I like yours more than the one I got except I got Harvey Prince – Skinny Chic perfume and I love it.
I was a fan of this months. It had a nice variety and I didn’t feel like it was all one type of product! http://theetiquettespot.com/fashionable-friday-birchbox-monthly-beauty
