January KnitCrate – Indie Package

Knit Crate is a brand new monthly subscription service which is “dedicated to introducing knitters to premium yarns, great patterns and useful extras. Within each package you will receive one pattern depending on your subscription type, an appropriate amount of premium yarn to complete the provided pattern, a soothing or sweet extra and a fun extra!”

When the folks at KnitCrate reached out to see if I wanted to review a box, I jumped at the chance. I have never reviewed any sort of craft box before, plus, I want to learn to knit so that Ryan Gosling and I can sit around and knit together.

The “crate”

KnitCrate didn’t come in a crate, or even a box. It came in the biggest, most fun pink / red bubble envelope I have ever seen.  I already knew I was going to like what was inside!  KnitCrate said that they selected the bubble mailer over other options for the following reasons: reduced environmental impact, re-usability, moisture protection, tear protection and impact protection.  I am so reusing this.  If you’ve even won a contest of mine, the prize likely came in an old subscription box ;).

Sort of a first look

I can’t do a real first look (who wants to see a picture inside of a bag, but I did want to show cute cute everything was wrapped up!

The Information Card

I was very thankful for the information card because I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know anything about yarn.  But when I texted the picture to my mom (who is in the know), the first thing she said was “that yarn looks NICE”.

The Indie package included:
~The Pattern | Three Irish Girls Betula Ring Cowl ($3.49): I blurred out some information in the pattern, but I wanted to share a picture.  The pattern is printed on nice thick cardstock and then in a protective sleeve so you can store all your patterns in a binder and keep them nice and organized.

~The Yarn | Three Irish Girls Springvale Bulky in both Winter Birch and KnitCrate Winter Colorways ($42): This yarn is very very soft and the colors are even more beautiful in person.  Listen, this isn’t the yarn you buy at your big box fabric store for $5.  This is fancy and I wouldn’t mind a giant blanket made of this.  Oh and the color on the right is a KnitCrate exclusive so NO one is going to have this.  But you. Well, and everyone else who ordered KnitCrate in January.

~Sweet or Soothing Extra | Happy Hands Sandia Sage & Lavender Hand Cream for Fibery Artists ($4.95):  This is a genius idea.  A non-greasy hand cream JUST for fiber artists.  This stuff won’t leave any marks on your projects, but your hands will still feel nice and soft.  Amazing!  I cannot STAND when lotion gets on, well, anything, so this is perfect.

~Fun Extra |Baggu Canvas Duck Bag Tote ($24): I did not know that BAGGU made canvas totes, but I am already in love.  In fact, I want one in every color.  This bag is beyond perfect to carry (or just store) your project in and I believe it’s the law that all knitters, crocheters, etc. carry use a canvas bag.

All totaled, I came up with a value of $74.44 for the January Indie Package Knit Crate.  Oh and I should also mention that two different types of buttons were also included!  A very good deal considering that the KnitCrate Indie Package is $65/month and it came with tons of KnitCrate exclusives!  My mom is going to relearn to knit and then I am going to match her teach me.  And then I will find Ryan and we can umm, knit our brains out!!!

KnitCrate offers various packages which range from $45 – $65/month.  You can also opt for a bi-monthly package if that’s more your style.  You can pick from “Sock”, “Baby”, “Beginner”, “Intermediate / Advanced” or “Indie” (like I received).  All the past packages look great and if you are upset you missed this, you can order it from their site!

What a great reason for learning how to knit! Hope you and Ryan have a wonderful time! 😉

I think we should have a virtual knitting club! I took lessons a few years ago but the place I went has since closed down and all I can make are scarves, mittens and hats. I need to get better and learn more!
