I ordered Conscious Box a few months back when they were on Plum District I believe. It was a great deal and I just couldn’t pass it up. In case you don’t know, Conscious Box offers a monthly delivery of pure and sustainable products that are handpicked from businesses that care for the planet. You’ll receive 10-20 items from companies working towards the most ethical goals.
Conscious Box ships via USPS and was one of the boxes I was surprised to see when I got home from my trip. I recalled ordering it, but since it’s not one of my regular boxes, it slipped my mind.
Conscious Box is a box in a box and it’s such a snug fit that I had to turn the outer box upside down to get it out! It was a heavy box this month.
You can’t tell from this picture, but the box was packed full. Conscious Box is another box I would like to watch being packed up. How they get it all in there is beyond me. Ohh, and this picture reminds me. I have no idea what that “ticket” is for. I hope it doesn’t mean I won a million dollars and now someone else has claimed it since you all have the number? Because that would suck.
The May Conscious Box theme is “Blossom with Spring”. Conscious Box does not include a detailed information card. Rather, a few days after the box arrives, you will receive an e-mail with a list of products and descriptions of items you received in your box. Here’s what was inside. It’s a lot of stuff. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
~Ultima Replenisher Everyday Health Drink (Sample): This appears to me to be a “natural” version of Spark. I will give it a god, but I doubt I will like it as much!
~Mac-n-Mo’s Morselicious Treats (Code): I didn’t take a picture of this, but it’s a discount code for mac-n-mos’s treats. I doubt I will use the code since it’s only 15%, but I wouldn’t mind trying these.
~MRM Relax-All with Phenibut (Sample): This works with your body to reduce stress and bring you back to balance and I can’t wait to try it out. I’m not sure if I have trouble sleeping because of stress, but I do have trouble falling asleep because my mind is constantly going, so maybe this will help!
~Orgain Healthy Kids Organic Nutritional Shake ($2): This kids shake is made with organic fruits and vegetables, packed with protein, and free of GMOs, corn syrup, or artificial junk and I can’t wait to see what L thinks. That kid has good taste and is totally honest, so we’ll know what it’s like. I would have made him try it already, but I just put it in the fridge and trying to warm would alter his opinion.
~Healthy HooHoo Gentle Feminine Cleanser (Sample): When I saw this I was like no, they really didn’t name it that did they? Really? But they sure did. And it totally makes me giggle!!
~Earthpaste Amazingly Natural Toothpaste ($4.59): Earthpaste Amazingly Natural Toothpaste is truly safe, made without glycerin, fluoride, artificial coloring, and foaming agents and I am going to have B test this out. He’s kind of picky about his toothpaste, while I am kinda just like whatever. If B likes it, we’ll know it’s good.
~Zu-Kay Live Foods ($3.99): This is a coupon for a free zu-kay probiotic cultured veggie drink and totally want to try it. However, I looked online and there is no place within a 150 miles that sells it. And listen, I don’t live in the middle of nowhere. I’ll hang out to it in case they expand though. Whole Foods around here should eventually get it.
~Ecover Automatic Dishwasher Tablets (Sample): I use Honest Co. dishwasher pods, but I have tried Ecover before and I like them too. If I didn’t use (and love) the Honest Co. ones, I would probably buy these!
~Somersaults Cinnamon Crunch (Sample): I’ve tried a few other flavors of Somersaults (Salt & Pepper & Original), but never cinnamon. They are quite good! Why don’t I buy these at the store?
~Ethical Electric Renewable Energy: Just for fun, I looked to see if Ethical Electric was available in my state. It is not, which did not surprise me at all. I would be totally down for switching if it was (and wasn’t insanely expensive).
~Yes To Cucumbers Natural Sunscreen (Sample): I love the “Yes To” line and have never tried their sunscreen. I only wish there were more of it though. I use A LOT of sunscreen. A lot. Better safe than sorry!
~A.Vogel Herbamare Original (Sample): B loves trying new salts and spices, so I think he’ll enjoy this. It’s a combination of sea salt & 12 freshly harvested, organically grown herbs and vegetables. Interesting right?
~Dream Water Sleep and Relaxation Shot ($5): Every time we get these in a sample box, B tried them before I get a chance. Not this time these. I am trying at least one of these! For sure.
~BIJA Gentle Senna Tea (Sample): Ahh, tea. This is going to B. I don’t care what these boxes say, I am NOT going to drink tea. Ever. I get so much. Ohh, that reminds me, I need to gather the “girly” tea I have accumulated these past few months for my cousin who I will see this weekend that loves tea. She’ll be thrilled!
I kind of gave up on doing a price breakdown for this box because there are SO many things in this box and it would have taken forever. But once again, I was very impressed with my Conscious Box. It’s $19.95/month ($12 + $7.95/shipping) and totally worth it in my opinion.
Do you subscribe to Conscious Box? What’d you think of this months box? If you are interested in subscribing or want to learn more, click here. And you can try your first box for only $7.95 (the shipping cost) with the code: “FIRSTBOXFREE”!!!
Haha, so funny how most people are clueless about the tickets. Conscious Box only mentioned it once in an email before the boxes shipped – it’s for a raffle they’re doing this week, where they’re giving away one item a day. You can check their FB or Instagram for the winners each day.
This was my first box from the subscription I won and I really like it! Great variety of items and it was jam packed as you said. The Orgain drink is yummy!
@Mary Q.:
Yep… interesting how it seems like you really have to be paying attention to their social media posts to know what the raffle ticket is for. 🙂
I got my second gluten-free Conscious Box this month. Still trying to figure out if I’m going to stay subscribed or not. Their samples are small, but there are a lot of them and I do like the kinds of products they’re introducing me/subscribers to…
My box: http://eenah.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/conscious-box-may-2013-gluten-free/
I wish I had had a great experience with this company. I purchased 2 one time boxes to be sent as gifts. I suspected they would auto renew so went in and got them both to say ended because they did not like the boxes. I did this way before it was due to send out another box. Well what I learned is you have to goof around until it says cancel–they still can’t tell me the difference between ended and cancelled. I am now getting 2 more boxes as gifts that I do not want and will have to pay full price for them. I get lots of boxes and have never been this angry with a company and their policies. lisa
Lisa –
There is something serious wrong about a “conscious” company that does not allow it’s customers to disengage from their products. I tried calling the number shown on my bank statement and received a message that the number is no longer in service. Bad form from a purportedly “conscious” company. Stay away from these bait and switch professionals.
I think the ticket means you won a free box? (At least that is what someone said.)
This is one box that I never enjoyed getting. It seemed much too expensive for what was included. I canceled after my Plum District deal ran out.
Did you get the regular box? Mine is a little different so I guess they mix it up. I like the box but most of the samples are too small to really get to know.
this is one of my favorite subs, for next month i decided to add a vegan box in addition to my classic sub because i have seen a few reviews of the vegan box and it looks totally different than classic most months.
HeHeHe you said hoohoo. LOL I’m not sure I could use that I would giggle everytime.
So I’ve subscribed to Conscience box a a few months now but recently cancelled (The May box is my last). I really like the box but the costumer service pisses me off! I was charged for my April box but never received it. I emailed them two or three times telling them this before I ever got a response. Then the guy argued with me about it saying that there had been no other issues with other people. Umm, I really don’t care, I didn’t get MY box! Anyhow, customer service is a big thing in my book and that guy arguing with me made me cancel. But I do love the box!
Was the guy’s name Joe Salas? I am most frustrated with him! The customer service is nothing short of pitiful! I signed up for a free MONTH on the last day of Feb and I was charged for March a few days later! That’s absurd. A good company would give you March’s box free and charge for April! I hadn’t even received my free box before they had debited my bank account! Glad I’m not the only one unsatisfied with this company!
The did the exact same thing to me. I am beyond frustrated. I really hope they listen to their countless amounts of angry customers soon.
I tried the RelaxAll and woke up with a huge headache the next day, Not sure if it was the pill or just me, I usually buy the dream water and they do pretty well for me. My Niece loved the shake.
I’m still on the fence about this one. The samples don’t upset me, because that kind of was the deal to begin with. I just am not a big fan of the coupons counting as items, especially with products that are only available in a sparse amount of cities.
Horrible customer service! Read all the complaints on facebook before you try. It is almost impossible to cancel and you will charged months after trying to cancel.
Thanks for mentioning our card in Conscious Box! Ethical Electric is currently able to deliver 100% clean, local and renewable power to consumers and businesses in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and DC. I’m not sure where you’re located, but we’ll be in NY, CT, MA, RI, NH, ME, OH, IL and TX later this year.
I got this box and wasn’t thrilled with it. Just not the kind of stuff I like and I have no idea what the ticket was for but I threw it out because I planned to cancel
I got my last box this month (July). I only ordered a 3 month subscription to check it out and, fortunately, the deal I got ended up less than $9/month. Overall, most things were just little free sample sizes that I could collect from just about any of the numerous health food stores around where I live and most of them went straight to the trash because I just wouldn?t use them, like the aftershave gel. I guess if you don?t have access to health stores, this MIGHT be a good thing for you. For me, I was disappointed. I wasn?t expecting to get tiny samples of products, like a single mint or a tiny bamboo spoon that I?ve used for samples at the ice cream shop. (Really, am I supposed to use that to try and eat soup?) I was somehow under the impression when I joined that I was going to get full size products?like the awesome Earthpaste, yeah!!! (This month I got a full size Kios DS, a medicine for stomach upset, but it has red dye in it, so it went straight to the trashcan.) I won?t be renewing because, in the end, it really just created more waste than want.
And another thing I don’t like…
I witnessed them deleting critical posts on their FB site. Sure, it’s their prerogative, but it is deceptive to potential customers who want visit FB to check them out. And I’ve always believed that success in both individuals AND companies is the ability to accept criticism and deal with it professionally.
This box used to be great but since July of 2013 has been horrible! 75% supplements that personally I don’t want to take and even if I did what do you learn from taking 1 pill! Then you get one energy bar (varies which one each month) and one other thing that is worth about $2. It is a horrible waste of money and they act like they will help you with customer service but all they ever say is “we will give you an extra box at the end” why do I want an extra box of stuff that sucks! And yes they delete posts on facebook even though they argue that they don’t and make excuses. Pass this box up there are plenty of better ones out there.
Just received my first conscious box which I ordered through a Groupon and I must say I am totally disappointed. I will not renew for sure. Samples are way too small to even get an idea if you like the product or not. Waste of time and money 🙁

I was so excited to receive my first Conscious box. The first one was ok I guess. Not as many sample as I had hoped for the money. My next box was sent in the hot summer month and had contained 2 pieces of chocolate which melted out of its wrapper and on to some of the other samples. Conscious box did gladly replace it with another box. One third of the products were expired and contained toddler or baby samples. My third box had again baby and toddler products which I have no use for. I took a bite out of a protein type bar and had to spit it out. Yes, I forgot to check for expired dates. They have a great idea but not worth the money. If you go to a health food store ( Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Fruitful Yield) and see a product you would like to try just write down the phone number which appears on the products packaging and have them send you a sample. Almost all company’s are willing to send out samples for free.
Great idea to write for samples! Sending chocolate in the summer is never a good idea. I bet that was a mess.
I found this post because I recently signed up for a 3-month subscription and had a terrible experience with my first box. I got a tiny plastic container of hummus with lentil crackers and a few free samples or supplements. I’ve asked for a refund for the remaining 2 months because I feel completely ripped off. (There were NO full size products of any kind.) If anyone is planning on ordering, please know that what you get looks nothing like they advertise and their customer service has proven to be terrible. Buyer beware.
I fell prey to the conscious box facebook posts. A couple of my friends had liked it and I liked the idea behind buying healthy products for my family. I received 1 snack bar, 1 bite of cheese and the rest was supplements and skin product 1 time samples. I cancelled my account and verified that it was cancelled. I even took a screen shot because I felt so scammed by the idea of the box vs. the reality of the box that I did not trust them. Good thing too. The next day my bank account had been charged the $19.95 for the next box. My free box ($4.95 shipping) was the December box so I should not have been due for another box until January. There was absolutely no reason for them to charge me. I then went back to my concsious box online account and it had been reactivated and for whatever weird reason my birthdate was different. Hmmm. So another screenshot. I tried to call 3 times during their business hours. It’s set to go to vm and they never answer. I sent 2 emails to their support email address. This is the 3rd day. No replies. On the first day I also posted a complaint on their FB page. 10 minutes after they opened my complaint was deleted. I have screenshots of all that too. I also posted a comment to someone else’s post and a rep from conscious box their said that my email had been replied to. LIE. Nothing in my inbox, nothing in my spam box and no refund in my bank account. Yesterday (day 2) I filed a report with the BBB. They are total scammers! Run!!!
Late yesterday afternoon I finally got a representative on the phone and I received my refund so I am thankful for that. I’ve also cancelled my BBB complaint. I do not believe it’s a safe company to do business with but they did finally make this right.
That is good to hear! It certain took long enough!
i’m having the same problems with them, they charged me after I had already deleted my subscription and then blocked me from there account, do you have the phone number to get ahold of them?
Unconscious Box! So glad I only paid shipping. I received a lip balm and fiber bar. The rest if the items were samples. Some from hospitals and some not for resale. Total ripoff!!!! Canceled my subscription as soon as I could.
I got ripped off too.. on my first box it was a bunch of samples that were near useless to me. I only paid shipping and immediately cancelled. They still shipped the next box to me even though I followed the directions on the website to cancel. They charged me and for about a month I have had the royal runaround on getting a refund.
The never issued it until after I went to the trouble to cancel the payment with my visa. The box was bad but the customer service was the worst I have ever experienced.
What is their email? I have yet to receive my January box and I ordered it weeks and weeks ago.
I just went to their site to look it up for you and it seems like you have to submit your request through their help desk on the site?
I had the W*O*R*S*T customer service from Conscious Box!
I am trying to find the humor in my relationship with this company. It seemed so harmless an endeavor, a monthly box of healthy, innovative products.
Wrong. I keep being told by their service reps that everything is fine, when in fact, nothing has gone well. I signed up in Decmeber, they mixed up the shiping instructions-someone in the office just went and shipped me a box-that one-I got.
Then no more boxes arrived but their were emails saying it had shipped.
I wrote, and said we didn’t get a box.
It turns out they made a mistake on my labels, they mixed up the name and address, but it has shipped!
No box still, gee, I guess I will track the package-it was refused at the delivery point.
I write again, I really think there is a problem with the label address.
Oh, yes. no problem. Let’s correct it (again).
I just received another email.
The box is on it’s way!
Will it make it?
Do I care anymore? Not much.
I have had nothing but problems with an order of items I put in off their website, it has taken over a month and they finally said they are going to credit me since they order never shipped, but then they did not credit my shipping so I had to email them again today, I was so frustrated I cancelled my subscription, too hard to get answers every 24 hours and trying to figure it out, spent too much valuable time on this. I’m done.
I think something is very amiss with this company. I emailed that I had not received my Feb box and got a reply with some promo run around and unable to reimburse. Then logged on and they had made my account inactive. I also pointed out their phone number was not working number and they resent it as a contact number. So who should I contact as they still have my card # and you can’t delete it on their website?
I canceled them and didn’t have an issue, but that was a while ago, so I don’t know now? Their website has changed a lot. Have you tried their Facebook? Or even your credit card company if you are really worried? They might be able to help?
This is a HUGE rip off!!! They took my money TWICE, and I have nothing to show for it. My shipping info was messed up, and the box was returned before it ever got to me. I still haven’t received a refund after 3 months!! And my bank is saying it’s out of their hands because the company is claiming to have no fault! NONE of the customer service numbers work, and they still haven’t emailed me back!!! RIP OFF!!!!!!
I ordered my “free” box a few days ago. They took out the cost of shipping, which is fine, then charged me for another box plus shipping! I cancelled my subscription to them. I’ll see what this box is all about soon enough, but from the comments I don’t see myself as being impressed.
I have been blocked from posting on their FB page. I had purchased a 3-month subscription at 50% off through Educents, an educational website. It wasn’t even worth the $10 a month I ended up paying for it. I posted pictures of what actually came in my box…the same packs of tea 3 months in a row, baby products for a baby I don’t have, supplements out the wazoo for conditions I don’t have (which promptly went in the trash can), unpasteurized cheese, dog poop bags two months in a row (I don’t have a dog), and so on. This is NOT what I thought I was signing up for based on their advertisements. What I believe got me blocked from their FB page was when I gave advice to a woman who had purchased a gift subscription for a family member months prior and the person still was not receiving it, despite her futile attempts to contact a non-existent customer service. I told her to contact her bank or CC company and dispute the charges. Conscious Box DOES NOT like it when people do this because people actually get their money back. I figure it’s just a matter of time before CB goes under. I think it’s funny that instead of trying to improve the company, CB is running contests to try and improve their positive feedback and using the little bit of manpower they have to delete and block negative messages from their FB page instead of address legitimate complaints.
I paid for a free box, shipping only for $4.95 and I have not received it yet, but there is another $19.95 charge on my cc for a subscription I never signed up for. I have emailed them and i will call them and then I will fight it through my credit card.
I bought this is a gift for my mohter and sister. They asked for a credit card wehn the received the confirmation emaill and my mom never received the gift. Does anyone know how to contact these people. I have sent three emails and no reply?
Maybe try Facebook??
Correspondence is TERRIBLE! I had bought 3 subscriptions. One for me, 2 as gifts. One box was sent with wrong name to wrong address. One box was sent to MY name to wrong address. My box was sent fine. I have about 15 strings of emails going back and forth with someone who says that conscious box wants to stay with “technology” therefore corresponds through emails. I gave them my 2 cents about needing a someone to call and speak to to clarify things much faster. It is ridiculous!!!!! They said that the person who buys the box is “somehow” being put in the ship to area. That is why they “suggest” that each person have their own account. Why put a link for “gift” then? They have a “buy the box” link and a “gift” link.
Hi everyone! We’re deeply sorry for any difficulty reaching us over the past few months. We’re working hard to return to our usually excellent customer service. Please feel encouraged to email support@consciousbox.com and request my help should you feel you’d like to talk to a director specifically. We truly appreciate your thoughtful and candid feedback!
I purchased Groupon to try on this service with the intention of continuing it should I like the box. What was sent was a poorly curated collection of samples plus a drink. Far from a good value at $20 a month. I canceled my subscription that night and discovered this morning I was billed for another month.
Emails to their cs state that I would have had to canceled before the first to not be billed. Now I am stuck with a $20 charge and expect to receive another poorly curated set of samples.
I should have immediately canceled the subscription – which, ironically, would have generated an cutesie email promising 25% off re-enrolling.
the worst part? I gifted one to my mother – she has never used a subscription box service before and she will also be stuck with this $20 charge because she also found the box to be really unappealing.
Lesson in this? never subscribe to this service. the whole thing makes me feel like I was deceived.
I guess they don’t have much of a conscious insofar as making customers happy.
We got a box, and I was extremely disappointed as well. We paid $8 for a livingsocial deal for a box and it was hardly worth that much. It was mostly samples for health and beauty products, along with a few chocolate bars (shipped to Phoenix, in June) and I didn’t like most of the health and beauty stuff when I tried them.
Additionally, I cancelled my subscription the day that my first box arrived (July 1), and was told that I had to pay full price for another month since I had cancelled after the beginning of the month. Really?? They expect people to cancel BEFORE they get a box or be on the hook for an extra month? This is especially infuriating since I didn’t get the notice saying the box had shipped until 7/18, meaning that they clearly could have cancelled my next box on the first of the month. Yes, their FAQ says subscriptions must be canceled before the first or you get charged again, but this seems to border on deceptive to me. I contacted customer service and they stuck to the FAQ and charged me for the second box (which just arrived and was a bit better than the first, but still not worth $20).
I wish I would’ve seen these reviews before I bought the LivingSocial deal. I paid $30 for 3 months, but even at $10 a box, it was a complete waste of money and I was beyond disappointed. I also received only 1 full size item in the 2 boxes I received (I canceled before the 3rd box could come) and I didn’t even get the nice lip balm mentioned below. My friend who also subscribed (per my suggestion when I saw the LivingSocial Voucher) did receive the lip balm however, which was basically rubbing salt in the wound. I on the other hand, received a paper bookmark and a fabric swatch with a coupon to buy the fabric that counted as 2 of my monthly items. No joke, although it sounds like one. The items were so disappointing, I tried contact customer service and they wouldn’t even appropriately response to me. I kept getting pre-composed “generic” responses, even when I directly informed them they were not addressing my issues. And then from there, they chose to ignore me and not respond at all. TERRIBLE customer service. Stay away from this company and save your money, time and effort!
