I mentioned it last month, but when Plum District had a deal on The Happy Trunk, I jumped all over it. It’s one subscription I hadn’t tried out but had been wanting to. In case you don’t know, The Happy Trunk brings a carefully curated box filled with engaging hands-on projects and activities for kids ages 3-11. All materials are included and sibling add-ons are available.
I’m not sure if I get shipping e-mails from The Happy Trunk, but if I do, I’ve never seen them. They ship via USPS and just appear in my mailbox mid-month.
The April The Happy Trunk theme is “Welcome Summer” and includes the following products: “Make your own Sun Wand”, “Make Sun Print artwork” and “Make your own kite”.
~Make Your Own Kite: The first includes everything you need to make your own kite, including printed kite paper (not pictured), streamers, a bamboo skewer, etc. I don’t know about your house, but kites here are big here. It’s always so exciting when we fly a kite. That probably sounds lame, but we don’t do it a lot so it’s such a big deal when we do!
~Make Your Own Sunprint Artwork: Ohh, this has my name all over it. You collect things from your house that you would like to make prints of (small toys, leaves, flowers, whatever) and place the magic paper on top of the closed Happy Trunk box. Then put your items on the paper and put the transparent sheet on top of that. You leave it in the sun for 5 minutes and then throw a cup of water on it. After it dries overnight, it’s done. How cool is that. I we would have done this already, but I don’t know what I want to use for mine. L wants to use trains. But what do I want to use? Any ideas?
~Make Your Own Sun Wand: The final project is make your own Sun Wand, which I wasn’t super excited about at first. But the more I think about it, the more I think L is going to enjoy it. I mean it’s a stick. Who doesn’t like running around swinging a stick?? L certainly does.
~More Summer Fun: The Bonus Activity this month is make your own bubble wands. You can bend the pipe cleaners into different shapes and determine which makes the biggest bubbles. Bubbles are always a huge hit here too, so this will be fun!
I am still very impressed with The Happy Trunk! It’s $19.95/month and L and I enjoy it every month. I love the idea of giving these boxes as birthday gifts for kids too. It’s the gift that keeps on giving for sure!

Those crafts are so cute! I remember making things like that with my sister when we were younger.
Oh this looks like a great box! I was totally out of ideas, but I think I’ll order it for my niece’s birthday! I LOVE your reviews and use them to decide what boxes I subscribe to. 🙂 Longtime reader, just have never commented!
