I got an e-mail from the folks over at Flicker Box a few weeks ago asking if I wanted to check out one of their boxes and you know I couldn’t wait for it to come. I love me some candles! In case you haven’t heard of them, Flicker Box is a monthly subscription service for candle lovers. Each Flicker Box contains a variety of artisanal candles, made in the USA, delivered right to your doorstep each month.
Flicker Box ships via USPS out of Chicago and arrived to me (in MI) very quickly. I say this all the time, but why doesn’t everyone just use USPS? It’s much more efficient.
I’ve never received a Flicker Box before and I can’t recall seeing any reviews on them (I am sure they are out there though and I’ve just missed them), so I didn’t know what to expect. I think it goes without saying that the first thing I noticed when I opened the box was the smell!! Smelliest box ever. In a good way. I LOVE candles and have been trying to burn them more and more lately, so I was curious to see what types of candles, brands, etc. were included.
Flicker Box doesn’t have a monthly theme, but they do have an information card, which of course I took the time to read and will save ;). This is related to candles, but not to Flicker Box, but I gotta know. Did other people stop burning candles after kids came along? B and I used to have candles lit all the time pre-L. And then it kinda just stopped for a few years there. It’s not like a newborn can like crawl on the table and get injured so I don’t know what happened with that. But we’re totally back into it now!
Here’s what the June Flicker Box included:
~Coastal Candles Tea Lights (Sage & Citrus) ($1.67): These smell yummy! I’m not sure if I would describe them as sage & citrus smelling, but I don’t know how I would describe them. They smell good though. Very good. They are made from natural soy wax, cotton wicks and premium fragrance. Pretty different than the materials in candles I normally buy I’m sure!
~Armadilla Wax Works (Lavender, Phoenix Morning Tea & Desert Rain) ($5.25): I really like Desert Rain, with Lavender coming in a close second. Phoenix Morning Tea? It’s not for me. I *think* maybe I am biased because it has the word tea in the name. I’ll totally use them all though. And for reference, each votive has a burn time of 15 hours, which is comparable to say Yankee Candle.
~Bluecorn Naturals Tea Lights (Sensuality) ($5.99): Sensuality is a blend of Palmarosa, Ylang Ylang and Patchouli and since I am not a huge fan of Patchouli, this isn’t my favorite candle in the box. It kinds of reminds me of college and people burning incense? Still I am totally going to burn these on the patio or something to check out how they burn (they are said to be clean burning and long lasting).
~Oil & Wax (Pomegranate Sage) ($8): This candle is very strong, but in a good way, not a bad way. This candle is hand poured using eco-friendly materials and packaging. I would totally more of these to check out the other scents they offer!
~Lit & Co. (Fresh Herbs) ($15): This candle may be my favorite of the bunch. Tt’s made from nothing but the most natural ingredients including cotton paper wicks, all-natural US grown soybeans and pure fragrance oils. It also has a burn time of 40 hours which seems crazy! The scent is very, well fresh and even I guessed it was herbs before I read the label!
All totaled I came up with a value of $35.91 for the June Flicker Box. This box is $32/month (and could be as low as $25/monthly if you signed up for an annual subscriptions), so you for sure get your money’s worth! Plus, you get to discover all these fun new candles you’ve never have met otherwise.

I think patchouli and/or ylang ylang will keep the bugs away. I think I read that somewhere? Or maybe I just made it up? Either way, it’s worth a shot! 🙂
Thanks for the review, Jennifer!
For your readers I wanted to mention that we are in the middle of a giveaway with 3 prizes valuing over $35 each! We’ll announce the winners tomorrow.

Since having a baby a year and a half ago we’ve totally not lit candels. I sometimes light them if someones coming over, or if something stinks and I can’t figure out what it is, and when I take a bath. I have 3 giant candles… and that’s it… apple, apple spice, and cinnaminbuns. These aren’t very spring or summery… I might pick up the one you like from Target.
I would LOVE a box like this alas, I have a ton of candles already that are gathering dust. Something about a curious cat that thinks an open candle flame is a toy.
