Eeek! My September Made in Michigan Box arrived this week! As you may (or may not) know, I am from (and still live) in Michigan and I have been wanting someone to come out with an all Michigan box for ages.
Made in Michigan Box shipped via UPS and got to me very quickly. I mean first of all it was UPS and second of all it was shipping from a city only two hours away from me. The Michigan State duct tape was a nice touch as well (GO GREEN)!
The box was heavy and I really had no idea what to expect from it. I try to buy items that are made in Michigan when I can because, although things are getting better, Michigan businesses are hurting.
The September Made in Michigan Box had a “Back to School” theme and featured items for Breakfast, Snacks, Lunch and Supplies & Extras. Here’s what it included:
~Kellogg’s Pop Tarts (Breakfast) ($2): At first I was confused and was like what are Pop Tarts doing in here? But then it dawned on me, Kellogg’s is a Michigan company! I don’t buy Pop Tarts often so I think L is going to be pretty darn excited when he sees these in the pantry ;).
~mi Coffee (lake michigan morning blend) (breakfast) ($7.99): Mmm, coffee! I’ve seen this around but have never bought it. B’s already got a few bags open, but this is for sure going to be next to try.
~Velvet Company Peanut Butter (Lunch) ($3.50): I had no idea that Velvet was a Michigan company. No idea. Before I “retired” I used to visit all sorts of companies around Michigan (I was a “field examiner”) and I wish I would have gotten to visit them. I would totally love to check out their facility and see how peanut butter is made. I always loved going on plant tours to see how things were made.
~Kelloggs Nutri Grain Bars ($1): L and WB both love these and yep, since they are made by Kelloggs, they are made in Michigan.
~Pure Organics Snack Bar ($1): This isn’t a Michigan company, but was included since this is a mom owned business so it was included. Not my favorite bar out there, but not my least favorite either.
~Old Country Handmade – Goat’s Milk Soap (Citrus) (Supplies & Extras): I can’t find this online (boo), but it smells great and once I pick up a soap container / tin thing, I am going to start using bar soap. Or at least start trying it. Everyone says I am missing out.
~Moments to Sew Pencil Pouch ($6.50): I already have this in my new Phillip Lim bag! It couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. It’s super cute and made by a mom right here in MI!
~My First Mazes ($2.99): This is another Michigan company I was totally not aware of. L is all over this maze book and I am going to throw it in my bag for when he needs something to do in the car or at a restaurant.
~Michigan Postcard / Sticker: The box also included information about each of the products / companies in the box and a sticker and a postcard.
Including the soap (which I totally guessed at), I came up with a value of around $30 for the Made in Michigan Box. The box itself is $29/month (or $19/month if you sign up for a 6-month membership), so that’s right in line. I’m looking forward to seeing what they do in future months and am hoping that they include some items that are not only made in michigan, but items that are sold only in Michigan (or are harder to find out of state) to really showcase Michigan!
If you are interested in subscribing or want to learn more, click here! Right now, Made in Michigan Box is offering a buy three months get one free for a friend promotion. That’d get you four boxes (three months for you and one for a friend) for only $18.74 a month! Their website says that the offer expires soon, but doesn’t give an exact date.
