Umba Box is a monthly subscription service that offers subscribers 2-3 of the freshest handmade goods from a wide variety of categories including home goods, women’s accessories, jewelry, stationery, and bath products. The folks over at Umba Box kindly send me the September box to review, so let’s get started.
Umba Box ships via USPS and has the cutest little custom tape (or maybe it’s stamps) on their boxes.
Since I have never received an Umba Box before I didn’t have any idea what to expect. Â Plus every month is different, so you really never know what you will get.
Umba Box includes a general information card which gives you Umba Box social media information and then also includes information cards on each of the artists in the box. Â The cards give you a history about the artists and tell you a little about the products they offer. Â Here’s what the box included:
~Fox + Anchor Paper Coasters ($8): These little bow coasters are adorable and I will certainly put them to good use on my desk in my office. Â I should actually keep them upstairs next to my bed because I will sometimes bring a glass of water up there and I cannot stand when it leaves a ring.
~Natasha J Collection Clay Necklace ($30): I don’t know that this necklace is my style really, but I definitely appreciate the craftsmanship of it. Â Every time I receive a box of hand-crafted products it makes me wish I had a “skill” or could make something like this!
All totaled I came up with a value of $38 for the September Umba Box. Â Boxes are $25/month ($23/month if you opt for an annual prepaid subscription) and they also have a Limited Edition Subscription right now which gets you 3 months of higher-end products for $149 total. Â I would love to see what one of these boxes includes and may have to give some thought to ordering one (the first Limited Edition Box ships in October).

I have been receiving these boxes (as a Mother’s Day gift) since June, and I have to tell you I am appalled at the stuff that you consider “gifts”! If I get one more soy candle I am going to scream!! And the coasters last month were truly a joke…..I looked at them and then put them next to the tiny ribbons (??) from several months ago and the bottle cap magnets (I have no metal to stick them on!!). I know that someone in your organization seems to applaud these choices, but as for me, at 72 years old, they are just more frivolous “stuff” to put in a drawer. I don’t know how to tell my son and daughter-in-law (with 4 children) that they have wasted their money, but I am letting YOU know that I dread seeing those boxes come each month! I am glad they are almost over, but what a total waste of hard-earned money……and you may quote me!!!! Sorry for all those artists that are trying to make it, but some of that stuff is totally laughable (paper coasters…really????)

Rosemary, Maybe you could complain to the company itself instead of to someone who is writing about her experiences with the box?
Um… sorry, Rosemary but that is a ridiculous comment! This is someone’s personal blog, not the Umba company! Goodness! She didn’t do anything to you!
I agree with your comment. I love seeing blogs that show the items that they receive in their box and appreciate seeing blogs like this that let me “preview” items that typically come in a subscription before I go ahead and subscribe. If someone has a problem with a particular box or company….complain to them and not to bloggers that are just trying to help others out 🙂
I go here for the reviews and I’m glad that rosemary gave her opinion. It’s the perfect place to go because the company may not have put the review on line. Thank you Suburban Mom for keeping her comment!
I’m fairly certain Rosemary Fontaine thought this WAS the Umba website when she wrote that. It doesn’t really seem like this is her wheelhouse. I don’t know who thought Umba box would be a good gift for a 72 year old grandmother anyway. I’m sure some would like it, but soy candles and paper coasters wouldn’t do it for me, either, and I’m definitely the target audience.
I’m fairly certain Rosemary just wanted to let off steam and I like that she did it here. I’m sensing someone thinks if your 72 you don’t know the internet. This is maybe true in some cases but not all.
