October Barkbox
October Barkbox

The furries October Barkbox arrived yesterday (along a whole stack of packages I wasn’t expecting) and it was one of the first boxes I opened.  It was all rainy out and the dogs were bored and deserved a little treat (or two).

October Barkbox
The Box

Barkbox ships via DHL Global Mail and took about 4 days to arrive from the East Coast.  Not too bad at all in my opinion.

October Barkbox
First Look

I’d seen some spoilers online and was hoping that I’d get exactly what’d I’d seen in those spoilers!  And the little peek in the right upper corner reveled that yes, I was getting that exact box.  YAY!!!

October Barkbox
The Information Card

The October Barkbox selections are a celebration of the colors and flavors or fall.  Here is what we received:

~Pet Qwerks Chevron Bear ($7): Everyone else is valuing this at $7, so I am too. No idea where that came from because I can’t find it anywhere online, but I’m going with it. This may be the cutest dog toy on earth. In fact, I don’t even want my furries to touch it because I never want it to be destroyed. It’s too cute. Fingers crossed that WB steals this away from them (they have stolen some of WB’s stuffed animals so it’s only fair) and declares it his!  Also, at first glance I thought this was a fox.

~Your Dog’s Diner Mutt Meatball Mix ($7.99): You mix this with 1 pound of grand beef and an egg, form into meatball shapes and bake and you’ve got dinner. Baxter and Buddy are going to flip out the day I decide to cook them dinner. On the rare occasions that they get sick and get boiled chicken and rice, it’s bananas around here. They get SO excited and of course when one gets something special, the other must get it too.

~Baker’s Best Treats ($8): I can’t find these online anywhere either, so I guessed at the price.  WB and I gave these to the furries right away and I don’t know that they loved them (they are goat liver), but I also can’t find them hidden anywhere in the house so they must not have been that bad.

~Fruitables Share Pack ($9.99): OMG how cute is this?  The furries are totally planning on passing these out to their friends on Halloween.  This is a pack of 8 mini treats to eat and share and I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a thing.  Totally adorable.

~Superior Farms Lamb Ear ($3.19): Let the fighting begin.  I wish Barkbox had a sibling add-on option like some of the kids craft boxes out there.  I’m waiting to give this to the boys until I’m up for a night of battle. Last night was not that night.  Maybe tonight ;).

All totaled, the September BarkBox has an estimated value of $36.17.  It was more than the monthly cost of the box (which again is $18/month if you subscribe for 6 months or more) and was, thanks to the bear and the treat pack, my most favorite Barkbox to date.  Such a fun month!!

We got our barkbox yesterday too but I have a big dog (lab) and we had two awesome toys — one that floats and one that glows in the dark which is awesome since our evenings are getting darker earlier! Love barkbox!

    1. Jennifer

This month was great! I’m sad you didn’t get the chevron bear though!

    2. julie b

That’s what we got too! Also a big lab- 2 good toys (rubber stick, glow in dark ball), an etta says jerky treat, the halloween goodies, and autumn mix. GREAT BOX. The chevron fox is cute but my dog would DESTROY it.

      1. Jennifer

Okay, I am so glad you think it looks like a fox too!

  2. Dani

I told Brian that the dogs would be giving those out to their friends but he didn’t believe me. Now it is a challenge I must accept!

    1. Jennifer

Who are their friends? Have they been at daycare these past few weeks?

  3. That bear is TOO cute! Bark box must’ve known that my destructo puppy would’ve destroyed that instantly and they sent a bumi toy instead!

    1. Jennifer

LOL! What kind of dog do you have?

  4. Jodie Kingsbury

This is my dogs second month with Barkbox. I got the idea off of your site. I loved this box. She didn’t like the goat liver snack and has already ripped up the chevron bear. My son immediatley opened the shareable sancks and gave her some but the rest we will share with others. If you have any ideas for toys/stuffies that are mostly indestructible, I’d appreciate it.

    1. Jennifer

My dogs aren’t heavy chewers, so I don’t have any good advice ;(. Hopefully someone else will chime in though!

    2. My puppy is the same way! She’s a beagle/pitbull who is teething and everything goes straight into her mouth. The whole kong line has held up really well for us. Even the fluffy toys. In our bark box this month we got a “bumi” toy and that has also been great! Worth checking out for heavy chewers 🙂

      1. Jodie Kingsbury

Thank you. I will get some of those for her. At least she only chews her toys and none of our stuff.

    3. Danielle R.

If you email the hoomans at BarkBox at support at BarkBox dot com we can add you to our heavy chewers list!

    4. julie b

kong works well for us, and the orbeeball we got in a bark box months ago is still intact.

  5. Melissa Bean

So jealous of your bear 🙂 I looked at the spoilers for the big dog box & I’m not a fan of the floaty toy 🙁 …Big dog discrimination if you ask me! I’m sure my golden would have loved the little bear- although she might have ate it 🙂

    1. Jennifer

We’ll have this bear for ages. IT takes my dogs so long to wreck stuff.

    2. Danielle R.

Danielle R. here from BarkBox. If you would like to order a Chevron Bear for your pup we have plenty in stock. Just email the hoomans at support at BarkBox dot com.

      Much Ruv!

  6. Crystal Diebold

Those “Superior Farms Lamb Ear(s)” Muggles flipped over! There are actually two of them in there. So they can each have their own so they don’t have to fight! =)

    1. Jennifer

      Ohhhh, that’s awesome!!!!

    1. Jennifer

      It’s so cute!

  7. Pilar

This was a great month, but I didn’t get the cute little bear my dogs are too big.

    1. Jennifer

What kind of dogs do you have?

      1. Pilar

        Two big Labs, Love them!!

  8. Danielle R.

Arf Hi! Danielle R. at BarkBox here. Thank you for taking the time to review this month’s BarkBox! So happy you ruved the chevron bear! If you ever want to order an additional product that your pups ruved and didn’t want to share feel free to email us at support at barkbox dot com. Thanks again!

    Much Ruv and Belly Rubs!

    1. Jennifer

      Thanks!

  9. Becky

I def. second the comment of having an add on option. I have 2 dogs and I always feel bad when I have to decide which one gets the coolest treat.

    1. Jennifer

That would be cool wouldn’t it?

  10. Alexia561

We received a different box than you did, but did get the fruitable treat bags! The treats are different and we’ve tried them all now, but saved some to give to her buddies. The bear is adorable, but Waffles would have destroyed it immediately so glad that we got a tug-of-war toy instead. Of course, she won’t play tug-of-war with me and just wants to chew it, but it makes her happy and that’s all that counts. We also got the glow in the dark ball, but we’re still working on the whole “fetch” concept. 🙂

    1. Jennifer

I didn’t know your dog was named Waffles! I love that!

  11. Shauna

Grrrr! I want to get the Poo a Barkbox sub so. bad. but it’s taken her 4 months to get most of the way through her last dog box. I guess I’ll just have to order 1 box every 3 or 4 months. It would be so much easier to subscribe and skip though!

Super cute box pic, and that bear IS totally adorable. Gracie would have disemboweled it within seconds.

    1. Jennifer

Or you could just get another dog so you could get a box monthly? LOL! I think we’d have trouble getting through all the items in the box if we jus had one dog too. And they like to share with my brother and SIL’s dogs too.

      1. Shauna

Yeah, ix-nay on the 2nd pup thing for now though I would love another one.

Just wanted to add that we went out searching for the Fruitables and passed them out to our pup neighbors. I think their owners thought we were crazy, but the pups liked them!

        Cheers,
        Shauna

  12. Jodie Kingsbury

Thanks for the options for my heavy chewing puppy. I will definitely try everything.
Very glad she doesn’t chew our stuff but I feel like her toys are gone just minutes after we buy them.

  13. Your Dog's Diner

We hope you enjoy making the Mutt Meatballs!
    Thanks for a great review!

    1. Jennifer

      Thanks!

  14. Sandra

This very box was our first BarkBox and I absolutely love every bit of it! My favorite part is the fact that my husband brought it to Moco (our dachshund) and I while we were at the pet park in our apartment complex with his buddies. Even though the share-able treats by Fruitables were on the bottom, we popped those open right there at the park so we could get the other dogs to enjoy some of the fun, too. Such a cute idea, right? Halloween treats for our four-legged trick-or-treaters.

I can’t wait to make those meatballs!!

    1. Jennifer

That is perfect that you had it at the dog park to share with Moco’s friends!!! He’s probably the most popular dog at the park now 😉

    1. Jennifer

I actually ordered an entire set of chevron ones from an etsy shop. You know me too well!!
