I have been skipping my Plated reviews (weekly reviews might be a bit much) these past few weeks, but we are still getting deliveries every week. I made it a point to take pictures this week though because I went a little out of the box (for me) this week and wanted to share some of the varieties Plated offers.

The Box

Plated ships via FedEx and as long as you order by noon on Monday, you will receive your order on that Tuesday.  So if you order today at 11:55am, you’ll get your box tomorrow.  Order at 12:05 and the menu switches over and you will receive your box next Tuesday.

First Look

Plated has changed it’s packaging since I last did a review.  It used to be on the bulky side, but it is much much thinner now and is basically foil bubble wrap.  I don’t know if this change is just for the colder months, but I appreciate having less waste.

Second First Look

Even with the new packaging, everything still arrived perfectly chilled and all of the fruits /vegetables were fresh and looked great.  Plated still packs the meat at the bottom of the box, followed by a layer of ice packs and then the other ingredients are bagged (and labeled) on top of that.  I take everything out of the labeled bags to take pictures and then have to be super careful to get it back into the right bags for B ;).

~Turkey Meatballs with Whole Wheat Spaghetti: If Plated does a pasta with a red sauce, I  get it.  No matter what.  This was the first recipe we tried and was a great fall / winter dish.  It had a little more kick to it than the normal pasta I eat, but I loved it.  I would totally have B make this again.

~Cornish Hen with Glazed Pears and Toasted Fregola: This was the plate that was a little out of the box for me this week.  I’ve had cornish hen before, but it’s not something I would ever order at a restaurant.  But I thought we’d be fancy and give it a go at home. And then I put of trying it and put it off more.  Until finally last night we had it.  And it was good!  No, seriously, I even liked the glazed pears which were also spicy. I have to say, I would even have this one again.  And while it did take longer than 30 minutes, B enjoys (loves is a better word) making these meals.  He gets the music going, puts his apron on and gets all into it!

Did you get Plated this week?  What’d you think?  Plated has a limited menu this week due to the holiday(s) (they only have four options), but I picked the potato cakes and the pumpkin rigatoni.  If this week’s options don’t interest you, check back after noon today (11/25) to see what options are available for delivery next week.

If you are interested in giving it a try or want to learn more, click here to try two free plates (new customers only).  Basically you’ll get 4 plates for the price of 2 ($30)!!  That’s 4 meals/plates for $30, which is less than $8/plate.

These always look so good, but they don’t deliver to our area. 🙁 Hopefully soon.

We did try Blue Apron last week. (from the Rue La La special a couple months back.) It was delicious.

We both cook, but my husband seems to really get into these meals. Wants to cook them for me. Who am I to complain. 🙂

Exactly!! If it takes the “what’s for dinner” stress away for a night or two each week and is fun to make, I’m for it!

I would love to try plated. i think we’re still out of their delivery area though. we do hellofresh weekly and we love it. those meatballs look amazing but the calorie count scares me. i’d love to try the pears though- they look amazing. N and I cook every night together.. i’ve actually learned a lot through HelloFresh… i’d love to try something new though to see how it stacks up.

I know right? Some are the meals are big enough to seriously half and use the rest for lunch the next day!

Ack! I just had to sign up for the Korean Short Ribs and Jicama Slaw! Thanks for the code to try it out.

      Ahhh, I got those too!!!

  4. I wouldn’t mind weekly reviews of this stuff. I’m still holding back, but do want to try it some time. My husband is allergic to poultry, fish and seafood and a few other things (and he can be picky!) so I’m waiting for the right two meals to come along!

They have really expanded their offerings in the past few months! Sometimes I want to order more than 2 meals! They (finally) have various vegetarian options each week, so hopefully you find those two right meals soon!

Plated does not deliver to my area, which is sad. I have to find a recipe and go shopping if I want to try something new. Maybe that is a good thing as I can prepare as much as I want. Just this morning we had an argument here as one of the boys chose to go to bed early and the other one finished off the leftovers.

The game hen dish sounds tasty.

Does Blue Apron or Hello Fresh deliver to you? Plated does (usually) have the recipes on-line though which is awesome!

I absolutely loved my meals from last week! I got the Vietnamese style beef and rice and the fall harvest corn and squash chowder. I love my fancy & pop sugar, but my man and I can’t get enough of plated!

They are really stepping it up with the choices lately! It’s been hard to pick!
