So I am tossing around some contest ideas for November and I am thinking I want to do a kind of you pick your prize contest. I’m thinking something Pinterest style where you would pin some of your favorite goodies or things you would love to try and if you won I’d send you your picks. Up to a certain limit of course!
It could be individual items like a scarf or fancy slipper, beauty items, an Erin Condren planner or a few months of PopSugar, Birchbox, etc. Or a combination of these. Winner would be picked via a random Rafflecopter drawing (you’d still have to enter through there) because there is no way I would ever ever try to pick the “best” Pinterest board. LOL! Not ever happening. And if you didn’t want to create your own prize, I could just send a gift card or an equal value prize(s) of my choosing. Thoughts? Would you participate?
I think that sounds like fun! I know some may find it’s too much work, but you are talkin about free stuff here. Plus, even if you don’t win, you have a wish list just in time for the holidays.
You made a good point! It could serve dual purposes.
I’m up for whatever but I find it hard to make boards like this since I never know what I want until I see others have it. LOL that’s why I haven’t made an ISO board yet. I’d be up for the challenge though.
I have trouble too. It’s always easier to browse someone else’s wishlists!

I would like to add though that because I as a contest entrant put more time and effort into researching what goes on a Pinterest board than I do when I enter via a rafflecopter, that I suggest you consider not using a rafflecopter for this contest, but rather have say 3 -10 un-vested friends ‘grade’ each entry on Pinterest and then compare the results. If I spend an hour or more building my ‘perfect’ Pinterest board for you, and the prize goes to someone who pinned 1 pin, or to someone who pinned an advertisement for their website or something along those lines, I will feel cheated.
Rafflecopter has its place and purpose, but holding a contest on Pinterest is taking the effort and time to a new level, in terms of entering a contest.
I was asked to read about 200 high school senior essay entries for a college scholarship for 3 of our local high schools. What an honor! What I did was I drew up a ‘grading’ schema with various criteria: financial background, future goals (college degree, etc), do they give back to their community, do they go to school and also hold a job, are they from a single parent household, do they have brothers and sisters they have to help take care of, did they overcome a physical ailment of some kind in their childhood or some other kind of setback…. Basically, each time I marked a column, that was a point. At the end, the ones with the most points got my nomination for a scholarship award. My nomination was added to about 6 – 8 other individuals.
If picking a winner or 2 or 3 winners sounds daunting, you don’t have to do it. My suggestion would be to ask anywhere from 3 to 10 friends (other bloggers?) to peruse ALL the entries, and select their top 5 -10 favorites, with their reasoning as to why (quick 1 sentence why), and then see if any entries are suggested twice, 3 times or more. Those entries *deserve* to win.
For example, did this pinner’s entry remember to tag #ramblingsofasuburbanmom with every pin? Did this pinner’s entry include a theme of some kind (ie wedding anniversary, first baby, honeymoon, pet lover, fashionista, etc.) Did this pinner take time to include a wide range of things that are important to them personally (family, kids/grandkids, caring for aging parents, volunteering, faith, vacation/travel, do-it-yourself ideas, etc). You know your ‘audience’ better than I do, so you can come up with better criteria than I can…those are just a few ideas to get you started.
Remember that this is *your* blog. You own it. Once you announce a winner, really, you don’t need to say *why* that entry was chosen, unless you just absolutely feel like you have to for your own personal reasons. Your followers won’t unfollow you if you don’t. I love your blog and I can’t imagine unfollowing you over not winning something. How shallow is that! Key word here is FREE. People need to remember that.

Oh I would never want someone to spend that much time on it! It would still be a random entry contest, you’d just get to pick your prize (which would be what your Pinterest selections would be). It wouldn’t be a collection of fabulous Pinterest things. It would be a collect of a few things you’d want me to send you if your entry was picked.
I don’t know that I could (or anyone could) fairly “judge” prizes that people want to win. What I love someone else might not love and vice versa.
Oh I guess the Pinterest contests I’ve done have been more involved than what you are describing, but believe me, simple is great! Thanks again, love your blog.

I think creating a Pinterest board with the goal that if I win I get all/some of the items sounds like a really fun contest. I’d only suggest that you set a total $ limit up front so people who join in can keep that in mind when creating the board. It would be sad if someone got selected but only pinned big money items. Would we all be able to see the board of the winner ? Because that would make it + fun even if I lose. The more I think about this the more I love your idea!
