Today was another crazy (i.e. super fun) mail day around here and one of the boxes I received was my January 2014 Birchbox!
Birchbox ships via UPS Mail Innovations which normal takes about 4-5 days to arrive to me. This month, however, took about eight days. I would assume something got mixed up somewhere along the way.
Birchbox is back to their normal boxes this month. I do love their holiday / themed boxes, but their regular ones are pretty cute too! My January 2014 Birchbox was Box #72 (*). To find out what box # you got, go into your account and click on “Box” and then “Women’s Box”. Scroll down to the “Box History” section and then click on “January 2014″. The last number in your URL is your box number (mine says “bb72″ – meaning I have Box #72). I explained how to review products for points a few months ago, so if you missed that, check it out here.
I cannot resist Birchbox spoilers (you can check the contents of your Birchboxes on the 10th of every month in your account), but you never really know what sizes your products are going to be until you receive your box.
The January 2014 Birchbox theme was “Go Time”, which was also the theme for the January Men’s Box. It states they are “taking on more things to try, to conquer and to integrate in their lives” which begins with the new products in this month’s box. Here is what I received:
~100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Mascara ($7.50): I don’t know what this smelled like, but it wasn’t really fruity? I thought the mascara itself was so-so. Totally not a holy grail, but I also didn’t want to toss it out. It didn’t add a ton of length like I like, however, it didn’t clump either, which is a good thing.
~Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk ($6.46): Ohh, I really like this. It smells amazing and made my hair less greasy right away! I usually use Suave Dry Shampoo (you can’t beat the price), but I will probably save up my points and buy this one in the Birchbox shop.
~Paula’s Choice RESIST C15 Super Booster ($8.06): I’d need to use this for a few weeks to give a real opinion on it, but it’s suppose to brighten and firm skin. I haven’t found a brightener product that I love, so maybe this will be the one?
~Whish Three Wishes Body Butter ($3.52): I have tried a few things from Whish, but never the Pomegranate scent. At first I thought it was ick. But after letting it settle in, I actually kind of liked it. Probably not enough to buy a full size, but I will happily use this one up.
~Ahmad Teas Assorted Teas ($0.53): Meh. Tea. My cousin will be happy about this (I need to go up-north soon and give her this stash), but tea just isn’t my thing.
All totaled my 2014 January Birchbox had a value of $26.07. Including the points I get for reviewing the products (which is equal to $5) and the points I got for purchasing the box (***) (which is equal to $1), the box had a real total value of $32.07. Not my favorite box, but I am happy with four of the five products, so I would consider it a win!
Do you subscribe to Birchbox? Did you get your box yet this month? What number was it and what was in it? If you don’t subscribe (it’s only $10/month) and are interested in learning more, click here. Last I heard the wait list was only taking a few days (I’d love if someone could verify this though) so it might be a great time to join!
