Ahhh, my January 2014 PopSugar Must Have Box is here! PopSugar is the box that started it all for me (aka the box that got me hooked on subscriptions) and I always look forward to receiving it.
As usual PopSugar ships via FedEx Smart Post and took the standard week to arrive. Â It always starts off at such a good clip and then it gets to my local FedEx Smart Post hub and it all goes downhill.
I knew what was in the box (I always post the spoilers for PopSugar because I get so excited about them), but opening it and checking it out yourself is different (to me) than just knowing what’s in it.
January’s PopSugar Box included the following items to check you check off those helpful resolutions and give you that fresh start in 2014:
Must Have Beauty
~Malin+Goetz Detox Face Mask ($40): This is easily my favorite item in the box. $40 is a lot (to me) for a 4oz face mask, so this feels like a total treat. It takes five minutes which is pretty much at the max limit for my skincare attention span. It suppose to address concerns for aging while instantly brightening complexion, which sounds good to me. I may use this as an “I’m Totally Trying It February” item!
Must Have Food
~The Juice Generation Book ($15.86): Hmm. We don’t juice, but we do have a juicer so perhaps we may use this. Maybe we just didn’t know what we were doing before? It also has superfood smoothie recipes in it too so I will check those out too. I have big goals of making green smoothies without them tasting the least bit “green”.
Must Have Fashion
~Jack + Lucy Knit Gloves (~$20): Â I believe this is the third pair of tech gloves I own, but I do NOT mind the extra! Â I live in Michigan and it’s freezing here. Â Seriously, it’s glove weather like 6 months of the year. Â And tech gloves are genius. Â Sometimes I am outside and want to take a picture or send a text!
Must Have Home
~Rifle Paper Co. 2014 Flip Around the World Desk Calendar ($16): I read a lot of comments that said that this should be in the December box and I have to say, I would agree with that.  I don’t think I will use this as a calendar (I already have a bunch and only have one desk), but I am going to try and use them as prints and frame them.  I would assume IKEA has some frames I can use for that.
Must Have Food
~Pipsnacks White Truffle Pipcorn ($6): I cracked into this right away to test it and thought it was great. However, I do feel like PopSugar sends a lot of popcorn (or in this case pipcorn). Does anyone else think that?

–Revlon by Marchesa Box O’ Files ($3.49): Â Totally practical and cute. Â I don’t know when the last time I bought nail files were, but I like that they keep appearing in boxes.

I am on a self imposed no shopping year (with the exception of my popsugar and ipsy subs) and was just complaining that if I could shop again, the ONE thing I would buy is tech gloves!!!! SCORE!!!! And super excited to try the face mask!

it was so funny- I got home yesterday and the hubby was home before me and got the mail and the box was sitting on the counter. He was like hurry up I want to see what’s in the box. I said it’s girl stuff. He still stood there and wanted to know about everything…it was cute. Gave the gloves to the daughter….she is the one that would use them most. But it doesn’t get that cold down here in Texas…so IDK. Loved the pipcorn (popcorn) hubby liked it. Looking back on most of your PS reviews..yes they do give a lot of popcorn. Crazy – this is my fourth PS monthly box. I am addicted and don’t think I will ever cancel too. Lets see what Feb. has in store for us addicts 🙂

I found a great green smoothie recipe on Pinterest. It is really good and I make it almost daily. This is for 2 servings, but you can easily cut it in half. 2 cups fresh spinach, 2 cups water (I use coconut water or apple juice), 1 cup frozen mango, 1 cup frozen pineapple, 2 bananas. Tightly pack 2 cups spinach in measuring cup and then toss into blender. Add water/liquid until blended well. Add the rest of the fruit and blend til smooth. You can’t even taste the spinach, just fruity.
Definitely the truffle popcorn! I love truffle popcorn and cheese popcorn so I know this will just hit the spot. 😀 I hated the caramel corn from the December box because I really dislike caramel corn in general (so I gifted it) and so even though they’re giving us popcorn again, I don’t mind this time. XD
I’m with you on several points…the calendar should have been in the December box and this was a “practical” box not a “Wow” one…which is okay by me. And I have to smile that my favorite thing in the box is the little box of nail files!

I haven’t seen the PopSugar boxes, I had Ipsy once and enjoyed that for the couple months I had that…I will have to check out PopSugar now, I love getting surprises in the mail…I think the ~Malin+Goetz Detox Face Mask would be my top choice also.

It a toss up between the gloves and popcorn. The juice book I just got last week when I went to see The View. We got that book, plus a juicer and a few other goodies 🙂
I am in love with the gloves!!!! I am in Florida, and it is finally cold enough to wear our winter clothes, and trying to text with regular gloves is not functional.

OK, my answer is I don’t know, I covered my eyes, mine is on its way and last night my husband told me I don’t have a sense of mystery because I couldn’t not look at spoilers so uh yeah, I think I saw some stuff anyway but I have put it out of my head!

Ha, I bought myself a pair of tipless mittens and before I could wear them my dog chewed off one of the fingers, so now I have a replacement. He’s eying them, but I am going to make sure he doesn’t get this pair! This is my first box, and I agree there is no wow factor here, but I love it. I don’t think I would have bought a single item for myself, besides the gloves, but they are all items I would have liked to have gotten as a gift. Christmas and birthday in a box every month. Love it!

My favorite item is the popcorn…I am still trying to figure out what truffles taste like. I have tasted items with truffles but still have not figured out what truffles taste like.
I live in Wisconsin up near the Twin Cities, so my favorite item is the pair of gloves! And we’re getting to that annoying time of the year when stores stop selling gloves (and hats, snow boots, snow pants, ski masks, etc.) because in Retail World it’s swimsuit season already. Obviously, retail gurus don’t have kids who lose these items on a regular basis.
I sent my sister a 3 month sub., and was so excited to see what she got! I’m a huge fan of the calendar, personally, and I definitely wouldn’t hate a nice detox mask!

It is so hard to choose what my fave item in the box is! I think if I have to pick it would be the mask!! I had to cancel Popsugar several months ago and had not loved the boxes I saw after I cancelled. This one however seems right up my alley.

This month I had a mix-up with my Must Have box. I upgraded a subscription that was about to expire, but for my January box I was billed for and received two boxes when I only wanted one. I contacted the support staff and they said that they could not refund me for the duplicate box, but would like to send me a “package of their ‘Favorite Items’ to remedy the issue,” but they don’t go into any more detail about what the ‘Favorite Items’ is, and I’m so confused. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I can’t find any information about this happening to anyone else anywhere!
I have heard of them sending gifts for broken / missing items. I can’t wait to see what you get! It will probably be a little collection of things from previous boxes!

I love your idea about using the calendar as prints and framing them! I too have more calendars than I need and was actually looking for prints to hang on the wall in my recently redone den/reading room and the prints from the calendar are perfect. I don’t think I would have thought of that on my own and the calendar would have probably sat around collecting dust, so thanks for the great idea!

OK, I got my box today. I’m glad I didn’t look at the spoilers. I was very disappointed until I saw the mask had a nice high value, and this is because I went to go put the first glove on and something unraveled in the thumb and now there’s a couple inches of yarn sticking out. I’ll hope next month’s suits me better so I don’t cancel my sub, thank you for the great reviews!

Probably the Malin & Goetz. I received the lip balm in Ipsy which I love, love! I’ve also tried shampoo from them that Birchbox sent me and I liked that as well.

I feel like Debbie downer! It’s been 75+ degrees every day since Christmas, so I can’t imagine ever using the gloves. I’m jazzed to try the face spray “aka mask”. I am kind of tired of popcorn and find ZERO use for the juicing book. As a working mom I have negative amounts of time. While juicing sounds fast it requires keeping lots of fresh food on hand, chopped/prepped and cleaning out the monks daily. I’m exhausted thinking about it! One day I’ll be healthy. Maybe I’ll read the book that day.

I enjoy my PopSugar Must Have Box subscription, and I just want to say that I like your attitude toward the items in your review. I see so many people complain on their Facebook page about the quality of some of the items. Even if one or two of the items is something I might not use, I can always “re-gift” or donate, and it’s just so much fun getting a surprise every month. I always feel like the value is good for what we receive. So, thanks for your positivity on your posts about these. I can’t wait to try the facial mask, I already re-gifted the nail files, and I love the tech gloves. I’ll never turn down popcorn, so this was a fun box!
