Tuesdays Troubles

Disclosure: If you make a purchase through the links posted below, I may receive a small compensation. Read the full disclosure.

It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Troubles. I’ve said it before, but this should be named “things i’m annoyed / confused / want to complain about”, however I couldn’t figure out how to make any of those into a snappy title, so Tuesday Troubles it is. And yes, I do realize that these aren’t true “troubles”. I know that many of these for sure could be defined as first world problems!

~I think I have asked this before, but what are your favorite coupon match-up sites? For Kroger specifically, but other stores too. Is Money Saving Mom still a good one? What are some other good ones? And tell me, if you coupon, how to you organize your coupons? Do you clip the ones you *think* you are interested in? Or do you save the entire insert and then clip based on deals at your store that week?

~So my mail never came yesterday. Listen, I get it. It was cold and snowy and all that. I GET it. But they didn’t cancel the mail delivery and told us to make sure our mailbox / streets were clear so mail could be delivered, etc. And it was (*). So I dumbly assumed we’d get mail? Umm, no. Not even attempted. Okay, cool, maybe there was a problem somewhere else in the route, the truck got stuck, I don’t know? I went to track one of the packages that was suppose to come yesterday and it said “Notice Left”. Umm, left where? Because it’s not in my mailbox, on my door, etc. In fact, I was home at the time this supposed notice was left. Had you perhaps just changed the status to “Weather Exception” or something else, I’d be totally fine. I’m all for you calling it a day because it was seriously freezing and those trucks don’t seem too warm. But to act like you tried and it was my fault I didn’t get it? No, I think not. Just tell me it’s not coming and cool, I’ll go to the post office myself.

~Okay, so here is what I need. A little kids ski mask. You know like bank robbers wear.  Where can I get one of these for a not quite 2 year-old and a 5 year-old?  I have looked in stores and can’t seem to find anything.  Did I wait too long in the season?  Do they make these for kids?

~What do you do with old printer cartridges? I do need to be taking my giant collection somewhere special to be recycled? I vaguely recall that Staples or one of those stores would take the cartridges back and give you like a credit for them or something? I am getting serious with my clean out and these things need to go!

~Those of you with little ones (like WB’s age), what classes do you have them taking?  I am thinking that WB needs (wants) something, but I don’t really know what.  Something physical like tumbling I am thinking?  He’s not really a story time kind of guy.  Ideas?

That’s it from here for now! What’s troubling you today?

(*) We got stuck on the street at like noon. Someone plowed at like 12:30pm. The notice was left at 4pm when the neighborhood was looking quite nice.

Etsy has tons of ski masks. Just search “child ski mask”. 🙂

    1. Jennifer

I never would have thought to look there!!!

  2. Kathy

Costco refills your printer cartridges for a fraction of the cost of buying new ones! Our Costco does it in the photo center and it is so cheap and easy!!! And you have less waste b/c you’re using the same cartridges. Before we found this out, we did take them to Staples, they give you credit back to the store and recycle them for you.

    1. Jennifer

      Thank you!

    2. Alexa

Office Depot does the same recycle for store rewards program too! I will be checking out Costco for refills – thanks!

      1. Jennifer

I am headed to drop them all off this week! Thanks!

  3. Rachel

Often schools collect printer cartridges for recycling. Maybe L’s school collects them? If not, Walmart has bins you can return old cartridges to in the electronics department (at least mine does). No credit for them, though.

    1. Jennifer

I should find that out about L’s school!

    1. Jennifer

LOL! THat is helpful though. I will be on alert for next year!

  4. Alexa

Regarding kids ski masks…Are you referring to a balaclava? Knit hat material but covers the entire head with an opening for eyes? REI and LLBean sell them for about $15, Campmor has them even cheaper.

    1. Jennifer

That is exactly what I want! I didn’t know it had a name!

  5. just search for balaclava. you should be able to find lots. we didn’t get mail either. or at least i didn’t get mail (here in VT) and that’s all that matters. i know i have fifty packages at home. i am already stressed/excited about it. 🙂

    1. Jennifer

I had no idea such a term existed!!!

And 50 packages? Where are they storing all that??

      1. The maintenance team has been throwing them inside my apartment for me. We’ll be lucky if we can get in the door. I probably don’t have fifty, but I am sure there are more than a few. Also my next door neighbor takes them in for me, but she was gone to Brazil half the time I was gone. I really need to put together a massive gift basket for her! And for my maintenance guys. And my poor mail dude.

        1. Jennifer

I would be scared to get home!!!!

  6. Melissa Huth

I don’t know if you have a Gymboree play center in your area but if you do I highly recommend it. I have a 21 month old son and he’s been taking their play & learn classes there since he was 4 months old and he loves it. Office Depot takes back ink cartridges and you get a credit for them (the credit comes quarterly). Hope this info helps! Melissa

    1. Jennifer

We have one near’ish, but it’s kind of pricey around here. I have heard good things though!

      1. Melissa Huth

It is pricey here as well, but besides the weekly class you can go to free play as much as you want during free play hours. We usually go 3 times a week. It makes the price seem more reasonable

        1. Jennifer

I wish ours was a bit closer?.

  7. Kali

If you have more cartridges than you can get re-filled Staples will give you two dollar apiece for them on a Staples reward card, up to 10 a month. That’s what I do with my ink from work!

    1. Jennifer

Yes! This is what we used to do for work! I remember now! Thank you!

  8. Stephanie

I like Hip2Save for couponing. She does post Kroger deals. You could also do a google search for a local couponing blog.

    1. Jennifer

      I LOVE Colin! She’s awesome.

  9. Sara

for couponing sites google living rich with coupons

    1. Jennifer

      Thank you!!!

  10. Sara R

Living rich with coupons is a great. They even have a tab that says store match ups and I checked to see if Kroger was one of the stores and it is.

    1. Jennifer

I will check it out@!! Thank you!!!

  11. Kristie

TurtleFur also make Neckups, that my kids like, like a scarf, but not. They can pull it up or down around thier face. 🙂 Dunham’s by me had a couple of the balaclavas left by me…but only in boy colors…and my girls refused… 🙂

    1. Jennifer

I need it like covered everywhere except the eyes. LOL. And maybe a small part so they can breathe okay. L totally won’t care. The longer he can stay outside, the better.

  12. Kira

You could also buy adult stretchy beanies and cut eye/nose/mouth holes. LOL. If you need them right away, at least.

    1. Jennifer

It’s suppose to warm up so we should be good. Until it freezes again…

  13. Mom

Does your rec center have any classes that might be good for WB?

    1. Jennifer

They have classes, but I haven’t really looked to see what WB would like. It’s too bad they don’t have track and field for babies.

  14. megan

I love to coupon and my only grocery is Kroger- so I like the Kroger Krazy blog. It is all about Kroger deals and she posts all the ad match-up’s every week.

    1. Jennifer

      Sounds perfect! Thank you!

  15. Lindsay

B goes to Gymboree and he loves it! It is pricy, but sometimes they run deals. You always can try the class for free before committing. There is one class a week, but you can go to unlimited open gym, which they have every day.

Have you ever been to Detroit Kid City? B LOVES this place. It’s only somewhere we go once in a while, but it’s great!

    1. Jennifer

No! What is this place?? It sounds fun!

  16. kara mishmash

I take the 2 (almost 3 yr old) I nanny to the YMCA for a toddler dance class that teaches high and low music, fast and slow music, among other things. She loves it and it’s not too girly (at least to the 2 little boys there). The youngest just turned 2. I’m sure each y location is different and I’m not sure if there’s one near you, but I’m betting someone does something similar. Just an idea 😉

    1. Jennifer

We have a rec center with classes. I need to look into which ones they have at good times. Something that requires a lot of physical activity would be good for him.

  17. April K

I take Silas to tumbling class. We always do something once a week. So far we’ve done music class (meh), swimming lessons, toddler soccer, and now tumbling twice.

He loves it and it wears him and me out. Olympia Gymnastics is awesome, clean, huge, and the teachers are wonderful!

    1. Jennifer

I need to check that place out! I really don’t think he’s much of a music guy either!

  18. Lindsay

    I’m having trouble replying…

Detroit Kid City is in Southfield, and it’s a small little place that encourages kids to use their imaginations. It is setup like a little town with a bank, post office, grocery store, etc, and there are all sorts of props. There is a coffee/juice shop at the front too. We all enjoy it!

    1. Jennifer

It should be fixed now. But things are all screwed up on here today!

That sounds neat! Kind of a hike, but might be fun one day!

  19. Kelsey N.

When I get the coupon inserts I just clip the ones I know I am going to use and then give the rest to a friend to use or give away. I also print a lot of coupons off of Swagbucks. Every coupon you redeem you get 10 swagbucks, it takes a little bit for the swagbucks to get in your account but once they start rolling in it adds up!

    1. Jennifer

I don’t even think I knew you could print from there!!! Thank you!

  20. Elise

I use couponmom.com and usually it’s pretty good, but sometimes it doesn’t match up. I like that I can select deals and have them emailed to myself so I can keep a list on my phone. Otherwise I have a binder that I keep all my coupons cut out and organized in. I do that because half the time I am walking through the store and see something on sale that I know I have a coupon for so it’s easier. If I kept them in the inserts then I wouldn’t be able to find coupons as quickly. It’s more time, but I just do it weekly while watching TV, so it’s not too bad. Also, buy Sunday papers at the dollar tree, they are really only $1, not $2.50 or whatever they are elsewhere.

    1. Jennifer

I never knew that about the newspaper at the Dollar Store! We get it delivered, but that is awesome!

  21. Kyley

Allthingstarget.com matches up coupon inserts/Cartwheel/printable target coupons with sales at Target…I have found some great deals!

    1. Jennifer

      Thank you!

  22. Ann

For coupons, Bargins To Bounty, does all of the coupon match-ups for all the metro Detroit stores. I use to spend hours matching deals to coupons, but now I just look at her list, clip the coupons I need, and head to the store. By far the best coupon website for anyone in metro Detroit!

    1. Jennifer

Yes!!! I couldn’t remember the name of that one!! Thank you!

  23. Hali

As others have said- you can recycle your ink cartridges at staples and office depot, but unless you have a business account with them they will only accept around 5 cartridges per month. Just something to keep in mind if you have more than that?

Can’t wait to see what kind of tips you get over couponing.

    1. Jennifer

I’ll be returning cartridges for years!

  24. Mrs. L

And all I got out of that was “you’re turning your kids into bank robbers?” 🙂

    1. Jennifer

      LOL. Warm bank robbers.

  25. Suzanne

    I really like Southern Savers.

    1. Jennifer

I forgot about them! Thank you!

  26. Genevieve

I usually do Krazy Coupon Lady but they keep changing their site format and every time it’s harder for me to read! I keep a binder with the things I know I’ll use and save any high value coupons of things there might be a good deal on. Mostly I clip them ahead of time. Before I had E I did some serious stocking up of basics – toothpaste, razors, cleaning supplies, candles/air fresheners. Most of it was free or pennies but now with a 13-month old, work and school I just can’t keep up the pace. Mostly I go out of my way for free stuff and diapers! You can get way better deals at CVS than Costco on diapers, if you have one in your area.

    1. Jennifer

Ohh, before my little one was born I stocked up on enough diapers that I had them for over a year! IT was awesome. I used to be so into couponing and then I just started slacking!

  27. Genevieve

Okay I just looked on fedex smartpost on an order I had that not yet arrived and it too says that Monday I wasn’t home or the business was closed and that I need to contact the post office to pick up. Of course I live by a couple of post offices and it does not tell me which one to contact. And I did get mail Monday even though we ended up with 12 inches of snow here in Chicago!

    1. Jennifer

They probably forgot to take it off the truck! Did you get it yesterday!

  28. Kelley Quigley

I’m very interested in the sites about coupon matchups – I’m a total newbie. I actually just read an article from a blogger about a week ago and thought I should try it. I have thought about it before, but we will see if I actually follow through with it this time! Love your blog btw – actually found it not too long ago searching for certain subscription box reviews 🙂

    1. Jennifer

I’m glad you found me! I used to be really good at couponing, but I find of just lost track!

  29. Theresa Brannon

Oh my god, FedEx does that to me all the time! Usually I don’t care, but I ordered a camera on Black Friday and wanted to be home to receive it. 3 days of “on truck for delivery”. I stayed home from work to get it. On the 2nd day I emailed fed ex telling them I was home all day and that no attempt was made. The next day they at least admitted to not making any attempt instead of saying I wasn’t home.

    1. Jennifer

LOL!!! Doesn’t that drive you crazy?? Don’t tell me you tried to deliver but didn’t really!

  30. Angela

Eb and I will be visiting our local Hunts gymnastics academy for open classes. And once the current session ends, I’m going to sign all three up with gymnastic classes to burn off more energy. WB and EB should have a date at the gym! 🙂

    1. Jennifer

They should! Where are they at again?

  31. Genevieve

Can’t reply to your reply. No the package hasn’t come yet. I’m just going to call the post office I think it’s at and see if it’s there. It would be so much easier just to have left “on truck” rather than pretend to have delivered it.

    1. Jennifer

I agree!!! And that reply should be fixed now. Sorry!

  32. Meghan C

I’d go to thekrazycouponlady.com or weusecoupons.com and go to their forums. I used to clip all the coupons but I’m so lazy now so I just save the inserts and clip as I use them.

    1. Jennifer

I know a lot of people label and do that. I need to find my “way”! Thanks for the recs!
