Tuesdays Troubles

It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Troubles. I’ve said it before, but this should be named “things i’m annoyed / confused / want to complain about”, however I couldn’t figure out how to make any of those into a snappy title, so Tuesday Troubles it is. And yes, I do realize that these aren’t true “troubles”. I know that many of these for sure could be defined as first world problems!

~So the other night ALL I wanted to do was watch some stupid video about how some mermaid washed up on shore in Florida. I know, I know. It was totally fake, but whatever I wanted to watch it. However, in order do this they wanted me to like them on Facebook, allow them to post to my FB wall, the entire nine yards. Umm, no. I don’t get why I would let any company post to my Facebook wall. So everyone can delete me? How would I know what they think of this season’s Bachelor? I can’t have that. I was able to watch that video, but I’m still annoyed it took SO MUCH WORK.

~Does anyone know where I can get scratches buffed out of sunglasses? Or just the lens replaced? Let me explain why. Don’t laugh, but I was walking (probably too quickly) up the driveway yesterday afternoon hit a patch of ice and totally bit it. B was even concerned and asked if I was okay). Other than a scratch on my knee (ouch) I was totally fine. Because my Tom Ford sunglasses broke my fall ;(. Thank goodness for protective eyewear because I totally would have a black eye, but they now have a huge (HUGE) scratch on one lens. Is there some magic place that will fix these for me? Please say yes.

~Now that I have realized that my nail polish collection is far too large for the shelves that I bought it’s time to weed through them all and toss the old ones.  Is there a set time you are suppose to keep nail polish for?  Just went it starts to get icky?  Do you label it (and other make-up for that matter) with the date you got it?  Tell me more!

~Have I complained about this before?  I think I have.  But why don’t businesses put signs up outside of construction sites so we know what’s going to be there?  It drives me crazy when I drive by a new construction site and I don’t know what it’s going to be!  I try to guess by the shape of the building, the size of the windows, etc.  I am rarely right, but it’s kind of fun.  But signs would be much much better!

~Can someone please tell me why legos have extra pieces in every package?  We got a few sets at the Lego Store this weekend, and, as always, we got about half dozen or so odds and ends.  Is there a rhyme or reason as to what the extras in the box are?  They always seem so random.  Like a sword and that kind of thing.  We just throw them in our collection, but I always wonder what is going on with these?  Anyone know?

That’s it from here for now! What’s troubling you today?

Nail polish can pretty much last forever if you use nail polish thinner on the polishes that get thick or goopy! So don’t throw any away if you really love them.

you forgot to mention no popsugar spoiler! :)for the glasses try toothpaste. not the gel kind the paste kind. buff it on with your fingers and then swipe off with a washcloth. papertowels can scratch them more so dont use those. the toothpaste thing works for scratched cds so worth a try with the glasses. otherwise i would think any optical place could cut you new lenses.

    1. Jennifer

I am so trying this tonight!

And I know, come on PS spoilers!!!!

When nail polish get dry and icky or even just a little to thick to use i just add a few drops of Zoya renew to any of mine and its like new. I use it on all my brands no just Zoya. I have had the little bottle of it for like 3 years and it is still more than half full. I especially love it for my topcoat.

    1. Jennifer

So pretty much I could buy more shelves and some Zoya renew?

      1. Suzanne

        Great idea!

We are guilty of being that business with no sign. We are finishing up a two story shipping container office and shop for our concrete company and my husband thought it would be fun to only put his blog link in front but I don’t think people driving by actually get the link.

    1. Jennifer

Oh,I would love looked up the blog link. For sure!!!

  5. Kelly

From what I’ve heard nail polish doesn’t go bad. If it had gotten too goopy you can buy nail polish thinner.
The construction thing bugs me too.

    1. Jennifer

All this nail polish lasting forever is not good for my storage issue. LOL!

  6. Jessica

I hate when stores don’t put the sign up while doing construction! You would think they would want to start advertising ASAP!
As far as the Legos, I have no idea! We have tons of sets and they are all that way. Even the girls ones. My brother is a master builder for Lego and when I asked him, he said, why would you not want extra pieces?!! I will ask him again and see what I come up with.

    1. Jennifer

Ohh, what does your brother build?? It’s amazing what people can do legos!

I agree with you on the signs. I want to know!

    2. Jenny

Your brothers job sounds Awesome. I would love to see what he’s made.

      1. Jessica

My brother started the architecture line of Legos. There are now some others doing that line too but he was the original guy. His name is Adam Tucker. He also has a moving exhibit of his buildings that goes to different museums. He is super talented and has more awesome things in the works for himself- like a Lego museum! He also started a company that ran a huge Lego show every summer in Chicago. He has passed than on to do bigger and better things!

        1. Jennifer

          So cool! Thanks!

        2. Jennifer

OMG I just googled. I am blown away by his work. Amazing!

I’ve only recently read that you’re only supposed to keep nail polish for a year. To which I say, no way! I looked at my stash (maybe only the size of 1 or 1 1/2 of your shelves, lol) and I think the Nicole by OPI ones have seperated, but almost all of my Essie, OPI & Deborah Lippmann ones that are older look just fine.

    1. Jennifer

Your stash sounds much more manageable…

  8. Kelsey Ellen

Totally not helpful at all – but polish can last forever with the proper thinner….

    1. Jennifer

      Figures.

  9. Didi

I don’t want to deter you from thinning down your collection of polish, I’m a nail tech and polish actually doesn’t have a shelf life.. If it’s thick it’s because some evaporation has occured..always keep the lid on tight and it will last forever.. you can buy “nail polish refresher” just add a few drops and shake..voila! good as new. True story: I had a OPI polish from a 1997, this past summer one of my coworker sister mentioned it was her all time favorite..I dug it out and added a ton of the “refresher” good as new!..seriously it was crazy, she was super excited…lol

    1. Jennifer

OMG, 1997!!! That is crazy! Is a nail polish refresher different than thinner?

      1. Didi

Refresher and thinner are the same.. just start out with a few drops and shake well, add a few more if you need too.

        1. Jennifer

          Thanks!

  10. Margaret

Lego sets are prepared by weight and because the small pieces are difficult to weigh they include more of the smaller pieces to ensure that you get everything you need.

    1. Jennifer

I feel like I just have been given a huge secret!!!! Thank you!

  11. katie

I know my Eye Doctor replaced my Kate Spade Sunglass lenses with prescription lenses, so I am sure an optometrist would be able to replace the lenses for you. MAybe even buff out a scratch. I would check with one.

    1. Jennifer

      I am totally calling! Thanks!

  12. pamb

Here are my words of wisdom for your troubles!

Sunglasses: yes, you can have the lenses replaced. Call the place where you bought them and have them call to find out how much it will be. They will need the style # from inside the temple. They should run $40-50, which is cheaper than a new pair of Tom Ford sunglasses.

Nail polish: I don’t throw away any makeup until I want to. I don’t care about the timelines companies give you. That’s just so they don’t get sued if you get an eye infection. If foundation turns, then I throw it out. I keep mascara until it is dried up, then throw it away. Lipstick does get hard or smell funny, and then it leaves. If the nail polish separates and is thick, you can try thinning it with nail polish remover, but I will throw it out. It a good idea to keep a Sharpie in the medicine cabinet to date things, but who can remember to bring the Sharpie to the bathroom?

I won’t enter a contest or ‘like’ anything that requires access to my friends’ info. Not worth it for me. I also don’t understand how I can see some friends’ random posts on companies’ pages on my wall, and it freaks me out that now everyone I know will find out that I comment on Real Housewife blogs ;)!

    1. Jennifer

OMG, only $40-$50? That is beyond doable. I thought I would just have to call them a loss! I bought them at Nordstrom. They aren’t prescription or anything. I will call a local eye place though.

I am cracking up about the RH blogs!!! Sometimes you just need to talk to those ladies.

  13. Jenn

I always wondered about that too (about the Legos). I thought they might include extras of most lost pieces but in the space ship set we got an extra 8″ long stick. I don’t see people losing those. My husband thinks Lego includes pieces by weight so it errors on the side of including extra pieces so I guess that makes more sense. Maybe?

    1. Jennifer

Someone just posted that it is because of weight! So interesting! I would love to go to the lego packaging / shipping facility.

About the construction- You would LOVE living in Washington State, or atleast King County/ Seattle. I’m not sure if it’s a state or county law, but when construction starts on private property, they have to put up their permit on these giant plywood signs that you can see for miles. It is kind of cool to see what they will be doing with a space, typically it was just condos…condos…condos.

    1. Jennifer

      I would LOVE that!!!!

  15. mirta

why throw out? the ones you dislike and don’t plan to wear, give them to someone’s daughter and other ones just put in an Ikea helmer, I myself have 2-3 drawers of nail polish and am fine with it 🙂

    1. Jennifer

I want to see your collection!!!!

  16. Jenny

I hate when things start getting built and I don’t know what it is. I will GTS and see if I can find it. Sometimes yes and sometimes no so annoying.

I just went through my polish and took colors I didn’t love and gave them to my sister 😉 I told her to pass them around the dorm if she didn’t love them too. Maybe you could weed out some that aren’t faves and pass on to someone.

    1. Jennifer

I always try to GTS! I never have any luck! But I try and try! I need a teenage sister!

If you want totally guilt free way of getting rid of some nail polish, I have heard that women’s shelters, in which they do prep for returning to the work force, love to get donations of such items. I think the same goes for make-up, but I am not sure. I have started keeping a small plastic bin for items (ones that I know won’t work for me) like these that I get from all of the subscription boxes I have become addicted to after discovering a certain someone’s blog :).

    1. Jennifer

      I love this idea!!!!!

  18. Jenna

So someone may have mentioned this but there are so many comments to read through I thought I would mention in anyway. Seche Vite Restore will make your polish new again! you can get it on ebay/amazon for pretty cheap. You just add a few drops (I start with one and shake the bottle and add more as I see fit) and give the polish a good shake and it should be good to go again. It really brings the life and usability back to old/thick polish!

    1. Jennifer

THat is good for my nail polish. Bad for my shelf issue. LOL! Thanks!
