iHeartMD, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a monthly healthstyle (health + lifestyle) subscription box service that curates the best and latest heart healthy ingredients, products, and information on the market, guided by the principles of the Mediterranean lifestyle and its eating habits.

The Box

iHeartMD ships via USPS and didn’t take long to arrive.  February is their first ever month, so I really didn’t know at all what to expect.

First Look

Everything was packaged very neatly and it looked as though someone took great care to put everything together.

Second First Look

I was surprised to see a wine gift card in the first look of the iHeartMD box, but after thinking about it, it made more sense.

The Information Card

I really enjoyed the iHeartMD information card.  It had product information, product notes and health benefits for each of the items listed.  The February 2014 iHeartMD Box was the “Founder’s Edition box” which included the following:

~Mary’s Gone Crackers:  These are pretty good.  Maybe a little too crunchy, but they were good.  They are low in cholesterol and are a healthy alternative to traditional crackers.

~Musco Family Olive Co. Pearls, Black Pitted Olives:  I don’t love (or even like) olives, but I know some people think they make a great snack.  I had no idea they were sold in these handy little individual cups!  Who knew?

~Naked Wines ($50) & iTrain Voucher ($50): Both vouchers are for $50, however, you have to spend money to use the Naked Wines ones (at least $15 or so according to my calculations) and I don’t believe they ship to every state, so this obviously wouldn’t carry any value if you lived in a place it doesn’t ship to.  Now the iTrain gift card can be used by anyone for workout programs, music, etc. so that’s not an issue, but it’s still not my favorite.  I see how it fits with the theme, but a yoga dvd or a water bottle or a something along those lines might have been more useful.

~Ghirardelli Intense Dark 72% Cacao Twilight Delight Squares: I certainly wasn’t sad to see these in the box!  I love dark chocolates and would never turn down a square of these.

~Matt’s Munchies Premium Fruit Snack, Apple-licious: We all thought these were yummy and if I saw them at the grocery store, I would probably pick up more go these!

~TeeChia Super Seeds Cereal:  This is more of a B item and I will send it to work with him tomorrow and see what he thinks.  It’s an alternative to traditional oatmeal and serves as a low cholesterol breakfast.

I didn’t do a total cost breakdown on this box, but I felt like the $30/month (it’s less if you purchase a longer subscription) price tag is a little steep unless you were into the vouchers which were included in the box.  I’d love to see more physical items in the future  and less in the way of vouchers!

      So good.

Wow I agree $30 is VERY steep! In the Love with Food box you get as much if not more food items and that box is only $12!!

I wonder what they will do in future months??

I can take the nakedwines gift card off your hands if you feel like giving it away 🙂 I already have a small gift card there but I don’t feel like spending any money haha.

      They don’t stack ;(. I have tried!

I have been waiting to see what this box is like, and I am underwhelmed.

  5. Amy

I also was disappointed that so much of the value was in the vouchers. I hope that they do better next month.

      Agreed!

The fine print says *entire subscription billed upon sign up. I don’t think it’s fair to require $288 for a year’s subscription up front when the service doesn’t have a reputation yet. I’m supposed to trust you will uphold your part but you won’t take the chance on me, lol.

      I don’t love that either! That’s a lot up-front!
