I have been so good about passing up the Julep Mystery Boxes lately, but their most recent Cupid’s Mystery Box was just too exciting for me to pass up! They offered three different box options this time, each of which were packed with $75 of product. I opted for the “Venus, Mani Lover” which was promised to be packed with $75 of mani-themed polish and product, including a bottle of Venus – Bombshell, a pink quartz holographic chunky glitter top coat.
Julep ships via DHL Global Mail which is slow. It took eight days for it to arrive from Washington. I guess that’s about normal for them, but I thought it too a while.
I hadn’t gotten a good look at many Julep Mystery Boxes so I couldn’t wait to dig into this one. I was thrilled to see that it was packed with products! I had a code for a free polish (you get a free polish for taking three Julep boxes in a row I believe) so that came in this box too, but I won’t include it in the review.
The Mystery Box didn’t come with an information card, just a packing slip, but here’s what was inside:
~Rock Star Hand Cream ($5.33): This is more of a travel sized hand cream, but I am still happy about it. It’s a great hand cream and I will for sure be using it.
~Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum ($22.40): I received this in the Spring in my monthly Maven box and I quite enjoyed it so I was more than happy to get another one. It’s kind of an expensive item and one I normally wouldn’t buy on my own, so it was nice to see it in here.
~Freedom Top Coat ($14.40): Julep doesn’t make my favorite top coat, but I do like it well enough. I really need to try and use a top coat more!
~Venus, America, Bette & Madison ($32.38): It’s possible that I already have Bette and Madison, but I am not totally sure. I feel like I don’t, but that seems crazy that I would get all four colors that I don’t already have! I love love love “America the Beautiful” and had no idea it was on sale for $2.99 right now! And of course, I love the “Venus” glitter which is pretty much why I opted for this box in the first place.
All totaled, using discounted Julep Maven pricing, I came up with a value of $74.51 for the Venus Cupid’s Mystery Box. Since I only paid $24.99 for this box I am very pleased with it. And this will probably lead me into buying even more Julep Mystery Boxes which I was doing SO good at avoiding. Not anymore!
This box is not longer available, but if you are interested in signing up and becoming a Maven, you can click here and use the code “FREEBOX” to try your first box free (you do have to pay shipping)!
I loved the manicure box! It was a great value–super happy. America is not a polish I ever felt the need to own, but I have a cousin who wants it! I also got the pedi box though, and it came with 2 of the discounted polishes (1 of which I actually bought in addition to the box, so yay for duplicates! ::sadface::) plus Aphrodite. Overall the box was nice, but I was expecting more than 2 polishes when the mani came with 4. I suppose with a value around $65 I shouldn’t complain, just a little surprised since the value was listed at $75. I don’t think I would have minded if it wasn’t for the discount polish–in the Winter sale this year I got 3 completely separated polishes when I opened my order (why were they sent??) and several others separated in the weeks that followed. I wish they wouldn’t make boxes, claim a high value, and then give away old polish.
I used the “sale” prices when I did my calculations. If you can buy it for $2.99, then that’s what I include!
I did too! The two in the Aphrodite box were Claudine and Karen, both of which I love. Which is why I already have them. 😀 I guess you take that chance with a mystery box though 🙂
Looks like I might have done my math wrong on the Mani box; I came up with $103 but I don’t think I was including maven pricing. Hrm. This is what I get for trying to do math in my head x.x
They will work out nicely for gifts!
I love you mystery box. I got the make up lover boxes that had the America Polish as well. I kind of wish I had went with the other box. http://outofthesubscriptionbox.wordpress.com/2014/02/13/292/
I almost went for that one because it was my favorite polish of the three.
It actually looked horrible on. It gave my nails a weird texture and had no color. I put it over a light pink and it looked so bad. I took it off after one day
What IS your favorite top coat? I’m looking for a good one. I like the Julep Freedom, but it seems to peel off quickly.
Have you tried Seche Vite?
I have not! I definitely will check it out, I’m always looking for the best! Thanks 🙂
This is such a fun a box! I love that America polish!
I got such a good one!
I finally got my pedi and mani lovers boxes in yesterday from Julep. It is the curse of the Midwest again that we wait forever for our boxes 🙂 I also just got an e-mail from Julep that my add-ons just shipped yesterday and will be here Friday…..I got all of my add ons from this order, so I am wondering if it is the cuticle pusher that I order in January that was back ordered….
Seriously. The Midwest and DHL / Smart Post are the worst!!!!
I’m so disappointed. I only wear gel polish so I always give my Julep to my best friend and since I am a Modern Beauty maven, I get more make up than polish but this mystery box really disappointed me. I mean, didn’t we just get the eyeshadow palette and primer like 3 months ago?? Ugh. I just feel like I wasted money on my first ever mystery box.
I figured it would be products we have already gotten. They probably get rid of stock that way.
My topcoat bottle was empty 🙁 hopefully customer service will take care of it
I hope they do!
Hi Jennifer! I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now, but it’s usually through Feedly and I’ll admit, I don’t really make an effort to click over and comment. I wanted to let you know, I am giving Julep a try and signed up on Sunday night and wow, I got my welcome box today!!! I am shocked, ordered on the 23rd and in my mailbox on the 26th!
That is so quick!!! And thanks for coming over to comment!!!
