Nerd Block Jr.
Cost: $19.99/month
Ships To: United States, Canada and most other countries worldwide.
Nerd Block Jr. is a monthly surprise box for kids! It’s is specifically designed for children (you can opt for a Boys Block or a Girls Block) aged 6-11 and is filled with toys and games just for them. They also offer an adult box for $29.49/month. L turns 6 in May and I thought this would be perfect for him.
Nerd Block is located in Canada and ships from there. My package took only four days to arrive which I thought was amazing.
Since this was our first ever Nerd Block, I really didn’t know what to expect. There was no information card in the box which kind of disappointed me, but luckily everything was pretty easy to figure out. Here is what was inside our March 2014 Nerd Block Jr.:
~Marvel Mega Blocks ($2.99): I can’t say that I know who any of these superheros are? But L probably will and this will be a perfect Easter backer item!
~Mega Blocks World of Warcraft ($6.99): Now I know that L will have no clue what Word of Warcraft is, but he will think this guy is cool because he has a cool weapon.
~Star Wars Slap Band ($2): Have these ever not been cool? I mean for real. I loved them when I was younger and now L loves them too.
~Star Wars Shock Trooper ($9.99): How old do you think you need to be to see a Star Wars movie? Is L too young for Star Wars? I sense he would really enjoy it, but I also haven’t seen it in years so I don’t recall too much about it the scenes in it. Regardless, he thinks this is cool and thinks that big weapon is even cooler.
~Mariocart Pull Back Racers ($3.99): This will be another Easter basket item. I think both boys will actually get a kick out of this. Heck, B will even like it.
~Skylanders Swap Force Danglers ($3.99): Not sure what will end up happening with this one. It’ll likely end up in his Easter basket as well (or else I would have opened it), but it’s probably going to end up in his treasure drawer (which most of us would refer to as a jump drawer).
All totaled I came up with a value of $29.95 for the March 2014 Nerd Block Jr. box. I liked this box, but I wasn’t wowed by it. It was worth the $19.99 I paid though. L’s into it though so I am going to give it a few more months (I like to give boxes a minimum of three months to test them out).

L is definitely old enough for Star Wars. I was 5 when I first saw it and became obsessed. Yes, I’m a nerd. The only parts that maybe too much is when they cut the guy’s arm off in the cantina and when he finds his aunt and uncle dead. The canyons scene is pretty quick and there is a little blood but it’s pretty tame by today’s standards. With his aunt and uncle it looks like a skeleton on the ground but they only show from far away.
I am going to find it for him to watch this weekend! I don’t think he’d care about the blood. He gets its not real.
I really need to look into this box for N. He would love everything in there. He has seen parts of the Star Wars movies but he has never sat down and watched them all but I’m also not overly censored on what he watches so probably not a good judge of appropriateness. LOL He does like the clone wars and plays the Lego video game so he knows the story. We also have Star Wars readers and all the Lego encyclopedias so I’m pretty sure he could school me on all things Star Wars. 🙂 My dad and brother play WoW so not sure if you know anyone a little older that might like the figure but N would play with it anyway I’m sure.
LOL! I am guessing it would be fine for L. I mean he’s been in the room during Teen Mom, so I’m sure it’s fine.
I got my nerd block jr for girls today and my favorite item is the cute little stuffed bear from the movie brave! I seriously can’t stop cuddling it. They also sent a hello kitty mega bloks mystery bag, moshi monsters mega bloks, my little pond slap bracelet and pencil case. I’m giving some of that to my niece for her birthday in may or saving it for her to give as presents to classmates depending if next month includes any monster high I can give K for her birthday instead to go with the monster high blanket/ stuffed doll I already found.
Aww, that one sounds cute!
I think your son would be old enough for Star Wars! I have 3 boys – my youngest is now 6, and they’ve probably been watching (and loving) Star Wars for the past couple of years. There is some violence of course, so I guess that would depend on the child.
I don’t think he’d act on the violence or anything like that! I am going to see if I can find it on Netflix for him!
We love Star Wars! Our oldest is 5 and he can’t get enough. He’s most recently been into the angry birds, Star Wars, Legos type of things. I can’t wait for him to receive Aprils box!
Same with L! He’s all over the Star Wars Legos. I need to show him the movie!
I think it all depends on your kid. I have much younger siblings 20+ years yonger and I started them off on Star Wars Early because I love it and am a huge nerd. As soon as they were old enough where Orcs were not scary we watched Lord of the rings too! Online it says 7-8 y/o for the older movies and 10-11 for the newer ones. I personally think that Star Wars is very PG. My brother started watching them at 5/6 y/o. I don’t remember whether or not our mother knew we were watching them, so maybe she might not have thought it appropriate, however my mom is frequently “behind the times” and turns to me and my adult siblings with stuff like this.
I think I am going to find it this weekend for him to watch!
Also I clicked on the link and it says the nerdblock Jr. 13.00 USD and Adult box 21.50 USD.
I included the shipping in my prices. It’s $6.99 for Jr. and $8.49 for the adult one.
I wasn’t happy with the items in the jr box. It was so itty bitty and didnt even get mario or mario bros related characters either. Got a sky lander dangler. It was okay. I expected mario or zelda dangler or similar but not sky lander dangler. I guess I had high expectations and got disappointed. The pull back car wasn’t even mario, it was some guy riding a motorbike. Not even a well known character, I wouldn’t even pick it if it was me. I liked the marvel mega bloks and the slap on bracelet the best out of all of it. I felt like I wasted money on things I didn’t like. My son liked it fine but wasn’t that interested after a while. he liked the slap on bracket the best and he’s still playing with it. I’ll prob wait one more month or two before I cancel the subscription.
I am giving it a few months as well.
Persephone got the girls block today. I’m canceling and resubscribing for a boys block.
Not good??
It was just kind of…..girly? A my little pony pencil and eraser set, my little pony slap bracelet (which is the biggest hit of the whole box), little Hello Kitty Lego piece, bunny mega block and a stuffed bear cub from Brave.
My big fear is that there will be an Adventure Time Block and they’ll only have it for one gender.
I wouldn’t mind a gender neutral one!
I even sent them that diagram “is this toy for boys or girls.”
Lol! That always cracks me up.
The girl’s box was ok. I’ll use it for Easter basket and I think I’ll give it another month. There were things got we saw in stores and although the value added up to 13.99 I still had to figure in the shipping. I’m not regreting getting it just not impressed yet either.
I am looking at it the same way. I will give it a few months!
