My Community Box, who kindly sent me this to review, is a themed curated membership service that allows you to receive 5 to 7 products every quarter, which are made or sold primarily in Hampton Roads. The service is aimed to allow you to “Try Before You Buy” at lower than retail prices.
My Community Box ships via USPS Priority Mail and took only a few days to arrive. My Community Box originally aimed to launch last winter / fall I believe, however, they took a brief pause to get details finalized, so this was their first every box.
Inside the Priority Mail box was a smaller inner box, so pretty much I still didn’t know what was in the box!
The My Community Box is a small brown box with their logo stamped on the front. Custom boxes don’t have to be expensive and stamping them instead of having your logo printed on them probably saved a ton.
I haven’t seen a My Community Box yet, but I know they send a wide variety of things. Boxes are normally $30/month, but they had a promotion a while back with allowed you to sign up for $15/box which is a great deal!
Obviously I loved the My Community Box information card ;). The April 2014 Box included items from the following Hampton Roads businesses which are less than two years old:
~Beach Shell Candles by Piece of Mine Gifts: How cute are these? I never would have thought to make shells into candles. The thought of actually burning these those makes me quite nervous as I feel like they could tip over or wax could drip out the sides. For sure more of a decorative item for me.
~Military Greeting Cards by A Navy Heart ($12): These cards are meant for the military father in your life. I will probably have the boys give them to B for Father’s Day. He’ll get a kick out of that. They are handmade by a Navy wife and look amazing. Probably the best made etsy cards I have seen lately.
~Lemon Coconut Bars by Southern Fried Chick ($1.33): I am not a fan of coconut, so I am going to let B sample this one. I would have been all over her browned butter chocolate chunk cookies though!
~Whipped Smoothie by Natural Journey: Boxes either included Nourishing Oil or Whipped Smoothie Shea Butter and I was so excited that I got the shea butter. It really is whipped and is so light that it’s almost airy. Amazing. I put it on right away and I was pretty happy with it.
~House Variety Blends Tea by Discover Tea: Tea is everywhere! I will be passing this along to my cousin who will highly enjoy this!
I couldn’t do a cost breakdown on the April 2014 My Community Box because I couldn’t find a lot of the prices online. I think that it was well worth the $15 cost of the box (I believe if you signed up for this box or a longer subscriber, it was $15) and I look forward to seeing what they do when the boxes are $30/box.
If you are interested in subscribing or just want to learn more about My Community Box, click here! The next round of boxes ship in July!
You could put those shell candles in some sort of dish with sand in it. It would fix both the stability issues and the risk of spill over (making sure to use real sand). Plus it keeps with and “beachy” theme!
That’s a cute idea!!!
