SundaySentiments

You know the drill, I am stealing Jen’s Sunday Sentiments button and idea and making it mine tonight.

~Today’s Sunday Funday consisted of a trip down to the D (aka Detroit) to check out the Discover the Dinosaurs event.  What I discovered was that dinosaurs are an expensive bunch.  LOL!   Just kidding.  #notreally.  The kids thought it was really cool though and we left with some brand new light up dinosaurs wands, so it was a score for them!  After that we walked down the Riverwalk (that’s Canada you see across the river), showed the kids some of the D’s sites (like The Fist I posted on Instagram) and had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe.  And then we rode the People Mover which was certainly the best part of the boys day.  And only $0.75/person ;).  All in all, a perfect day downtown.  We are already plotting next weeks Sunday Funday (which might actually happen on Saturday) and I think that is going to involve a trip to the Eastern Market.

Sunday Funday in the D!
Sunday Funday in the D!

~I also got the Monthly Subscription Box List totally 100% updated (and in two seconds I am sure I will get an e-mail about a new box) today and next up is going to be the Coupon Code list! That shouldn’t be as crazy to update as the full list though.  And between yesterday night and today, I also had a chance to tackle the closet I have been avoiding.  While it’s not amazing, it’s way way better.  Everything is now organized by category which was the main issue.  And no way will I post a picture of it because I fear someone will call Hoarders on me!!  I will post a picture of my nail polish collection once I get it all color coordinated though!

~So has anyone else been following this story about the family with the sick baby on a sailboat stuck in the Pacific Ocean?  They have been rescued and it appears everyone is going to be just fine which is awesome (thank you US Navy), but I cannot even imagine traveling around the world on a sailboat with two little little kids.  Heck, I get nervous making sure everyone is okay on a trip around the lake.  Plus, I honestly think my kids would lose their minds (and also I would lose mine).  Also, I would have had to pack a giant supply of antibiotics because my kids would have gotten sick like day one.

~I am so going to take everyone’s advice and pick up some essentials oils for my sinuses.  Now I just need to know where one buys essential oils from?  Anyone?  What kind of local store would have these?

~Oh, just to give an update, my  Challenge / clean eating train fell off the tracks for a bit.  No worries though, it will be righted in the near future ;).

~I am going to pull the winners from ALL my recent giveaways tonight and will post the winners in the morning!  I haven’t decided what kind of giveaway(s) I am going to do for April yet (well I know of a few), so I would love to hear your suggestions.  Anything you’ve had your eye on?  Any hot new items out?

That’s about it from here tonight! What are your plans for tonight?

My local health food stores have essential oils, so places like that would be good to check.

    1. Jennifer

  2. cindy

health food stores and i think trader joes and whole foods also online and people who sell homemade bath products like at your local farmers market for essential oils
i just read it could be raw fruit and veggies that cause this allergy symptoms as well

    1. Jennifer

I never thought of a farmers market. Mine is usually seasonal. It’s been getting bad the past few years though and I would like that to stop.

I buy my EOs from Plant Therapy, either from their website directly or from amazon. You are sure to get loads of responses, people get very passionate about essential oils!! I’ve found that plant therapy are a good quality and reasonably priced.

    1. Jennifer

Thank you! i really need to learn more!

If you’re near a co-op/natural foods store (whole foods and the like) they usually have a decent amount of essential oils. Near the vitamins (Although I say this living in Oregon where there’s a zillion hippies and co-ops, I have no idea about the rest of the country! But here things like that are easy to find)

That’s not my website/business, btw. Just one I saw linked on a FB group that I belong to.

      1. Jennifer

        Oh I wouldn’t mind!

Young living is pharmaceutical grade the others I don’t know for sure about. I highly recommend them I don’t sell them but I have the membership so they are cheaper. They work wonders and my friend has all the resources for what to use

          1. Jennifer

Ohh, good to know. Send me a link!

      Thank you!

Natural Oil Selections? Check out Natural Food Patch in Ferndale.

Or try aura cacia, desert essence, etc. online.

    1. Jennifer

Thank you!! I don’t think I have an Natural Food stores near me. Ferndale isn’t too far though so that’s perfect.

  6. Erin B

Ooooo will you let us know which oils you use and if they work?? I suffer from major allergy pain and I’m SO sick of pills. I’d love to try something else!

    1. Jennifer

      Yes! I will report back!

Okay, I had no idea Detroit was that close to Canada! How cool! Looks like you guys had an awesome day!! I’ve only been up there once, to a wedding in Dearborn. We didn’t make it to Detroit at all, but looks like there’s lots of cool things to do. I hadn’t heard about the family on the sailboat! So actually, Ben and I have always had a dream to sell our belongings and sail around the world on a sailboat. HOWEVER, now that I have a little one, there is no way that will happen until our daughter and any future kids are very much grown! If even then! The thought just terrifies me. I’m sure that family must have been so scared!

    1. Jennifer

LOL yes. They are our neighbor to the South. We used to go there in college to drink because you only have to be 19 in Canada. So we’d go to the bars there and then just drive home. This of course was before the days of passports needed for that.

    1. Jennifer

Yes, yes, yes! This is what I was thinking of! DoTerra! I do like the idea of not having to create my own blend. I don’t think I am ready for that.

  8. Jenny

Your funday sounds awesome. Those dinosaur things area huge hit. We went last year to the one at our zoo but since I had a pass it wasn’t too bad but still a little crazy to see electronic dinos. LOL
I can’t even think of having my boys in those close quarters for so long. We would all need to be rescued.

    1. Jennifer

A total hit. I couldn’t believe how packed it was. And not only that, but how packed it was to BUY a souvenir. Oh my.

There is a website called http://www.doterra.com/us/ that works like your Advocare and Tupperware but they sell essential oils and have starter kits, like a family physician kit etc. You might want to give that a try and if you like it than you can maybe even sell it too.
Whole Foods I think also sells essential oils?

    1. Jennifer

DOTERRA! That is what I was trying to think of! I remember a friend saying they sold it, but I could NOT think of the name (or the friend for that matter). You are awesome.

      1. Ashlee

Yes d?TERRA is amazing! If you remember the friend, they are sure to tell you about Balance and Serenity because every mom needs those two! If anyone wants free samples go to http://www.usepureoils.com/samples . It is my site and we are passionate about helping others learn how to help their families with essential oils.

How far away do you guys live from downtown Detroit? We’re about 30 minutes from downtown Denver and I love living in the suburbs but being close enough to the city to be able to go down and do fun things and not have to make a total day trip of it. It looks like there’s tons of fun things to do in Detroit!

    1. Jennifer

About the same! It’s awesome because you are so close to a big city, but get the suburbs benefits! I love it!

  11. rachel

I know I am not the first person to say, doterra. I have been using them for three years now. We have gotten rid of all the medicines in our house and now use doterra oils. I have a 2 yr old and have used Breathe on her for colds. My husband and I also use breathe for our allegies. Here in SC the pollen is just terrible. Serenity for sleeping. Also terrain shield as a bug repellent.

    1. Jennifer

      Awesome! Thank you!

  12. rachel

    I mean terra shield.

Man, your pictures of Motown bring up pleasant memories–I started my current job working in the Hard Rock Cafe building, and then they moved me out to Boston about 3 years ago. I love my job, and I love Boston, but some of my best memories are in downtown Detroit. For all it’s bad rep, I love that city–no crazy parking situations where you pay $35 an hour (ok, maybe on a Tigers day, but that’s about it!), and you have a great view of Canada (? is this a win? I think so, but…?), AND my favorite Art Museum–the DIA (MFA in Boston and Art Institute of Chicago are great, but the DIA is amazing). You should totally stop in Greek town next time your in town btw–there is an amazing bakery across from Pegasus that is absolutely divine. Plus, they have ice cream (it might be gelato, but it’s been a year or two…). OH. And the Mediterranean (C&K Mediterranean) has the BEST kabobs and garlic sauce ever. Also juice. Made from guava/carrots/other things. Sigh, I need to get back there.

As for essential oils, I’m a newbie in this realm, but do be careful—most pure essentials oils cannot be applied directly to the skin (there are only three, Tea Tree being one, and Blue Chamomile is one, but if you have a lighter skin tone like me you might get a burn from it) since they are highly concentrated and can cause burns. If you are getting natural oils, I’m not sure but maybe those are fine? Dunno. I’m guessing most of the stuff in stores probably isn’t pure essential oils since they would have to have large danger signs, and that would ward off customers lol. Totally new to this, but there is Herbstalk in Boston every year which is a great way to learn about new and up and coming things, but outside of New England it can be hard to get too ^^; Check out A2 though–they have a growing herbalist community that might have a local event; farmers markets are a good place to ask questions if nothing else!

    1. Chris

P.S. You’ll have to let us readers know what oils you get/blends you get—I have no idea where to start and would love for some guidance! <3

    2. Jennifer

I think it’s a win! Where else can you look south and see Canada?? I love Pegasus! And of course the casinos! We are only like 30-40 minutes from Detroit. I went to grad school at Wayne State! I think next weekend we are going to try and hit up Green Dot Stables.

AA is a good idea. Now that is a bit of a hike for me. But I bet they’d have the perfect shop that would solve all my issues.

      1. Chris

I went to EMU and then moved to Royal Oak, so I can imagine it being a trek coming from north of D-town. Even from Ypsi it was a good 20 minutes, and that was right next door (Boston is spoiling me on travel times #notreally)! I know, but yeah, it’s a trek if you are more north. I wouldn’t be surprised if Royal Oak had something, but even that can be a pain to get to. I wish there was a list of places..sigh. If I hear anything at Herbstalk I might stalk on here to reply…:)

        1. Jennifer

Royal Oak and Ferndale would. Rochester might and that’s much closer!

I’d love a LUSH spring giveaway!

    1. Jennifer

That would be fun. And I do have a super close LUSH.

      1. Allison

Awesome! I’m jealous. 🙂 Chicago is my closest one.

  15. lisa

Amazon has some doterra essential oils fo decent prices. Also whole foods in rochester or vim and vigor on van dyke:)

    1. Jennifer

I have never heard of vim and vigor! Where exactly is it?

      1. lisa

It is a small little place. The people in there are really knowledgeable. I think you live around me and stumbled across your site and I love it! I don’t know if they have essential oils, but I would bet they do. You could always call first:)

        1. Jennifer

Ohh, I know right there that is and yes, we are total neighbors!!!!!

  16. lisa

I also wonder if that vitamin shop in front of Costco sell essential oils. I am just getting into them myself and I know that vitamin shop has other natural remedies, so there is a good chance they carry them too.

    1. Jennifer

Ohhh, I never thought to look there? I wonder?? I do need to go to Costco soon.

      1. lisa

Oh Costco, I have a love hate relationship with that place!!
