Tuesdays Troubles

It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Troubles. I’ve said it before (like every week), but this should be named “things i’m annoyed / confused / want to complain about”, however I couldn’t figure out how to make any of those into a snappy title, so Tuesday Troubles it is.  And yes, I do realize that these aren’t true “troubles”. I know that many of these for sure could be defined as first world problems!

~So we have a room in our house that is a complete internet dead zone. Well, I mean it sort of works, but it sucks. Honestly I have no idea how this is possible, but it’s what’s going on. The house isn’t that big and the internet works everywhere else, so it’s just weird. It’s always been like this, but it’s been getting worse these past few months. Is this fixable? Will a different provider solve the problem? Or do I need some technical “thing” done to make this work? HELP because it’s driving me nuts.

~I guess I never used to pay too much attention to it before because L was younger and never really paid attention, but have you listened to morning radio lately? Have we talked about this before? What am I supposed to listen to in the morning when I take L to school because I am pretty sure I don’t want to explain Six on S*x to him. LOL!!!  Am I getting old?  Or is this getting worse? This isn’t Howard Stern I am listening too, just the normal local morning radio show.  Are yours like this too?  Do I just need to hook my phone up and skip the radio all together?

~Has anyone every gotten a glazing treatment on their hair?  My girl was telling me about it when I was getting my haircut and she even had me interested.  I guess it lasts a few weeks and is suppose to make your hair very shiny?  Anyone have any personal experiences with this?  Report back!

~This never used to bug me, but lately people eating with their mouths open or loud chewers are driving me insane.  INSANE. Of course, it doesn’t bother me if I do it (it bothers B though), but I may lose my mind if this continues on!  It’s not the site that bothers me (because I don’t look), it’s the noise.  AHHHHHHH.  Make it stop!

~We are headed to IKEA this week and I want to know if there are any new must-buys out there that I don’t know about.  I am mainly looking for picture frames and maybe a few shelves. Oh, and maybe something for the walls in the boys playroom.  Recommendations?  Favorites?  Anything I NEED?????

That’s it from here for now! What’s troubling you today?

  1. you need a wifi repeater. our place is VERY long and i have a repeater (an airport express) to boost the signal. otherwise i get nothing. i have an app i think just from the app store called network strength.

love glazing treatments. they make my hair appear to be somewhat thick. go for it. it’s for people that don’t like coloring their hair (although i think they can add some color to it too) that like how their hair looks when it is colored. i like how my hair behaves AND the color when it’s colored, so i just color it.

    1. Jennifer

Ugh. The worst part is that we got a repeater at the instruction of the internet guy and it’s not helping. I swear, I am going to get a straight up old fashion cable and run it to my computer.

I think will go for it!

      1. did you get an airport? because even though it’s more $ it works best. see if your friends have one you can borrow. i know they have a new all in one (i have the old style only a repeater) but it’s worth just testing it out.

i have a macbook air so i can’t do that!

        1. Jennifer

Hmm, I don’t know. I have an air too, so whatever it is, I suppose I can’t use it either???

You can buy wi-fi extenders at Best Buy or some place like that. You just plug them in where you need it and it should extend the range of the wi-fi in your house.

We have one or two horrible stations here. The one I listen to isnt bad, but every morning on the way to work, they do a “second date update”. One party calls in and says they had this great date but havent heard back from the other party. They then call the other person on air while this person is still on the line to ask whats up. Its so uncomfortable to listen to. I always end up turning it off.

    1. Jennifer

OMG they do a second date update here too. And the reason it doesn’t work out on the first date is always something super weird.

Is a repeater and an extender the same thing? They told us to get a repeater and it is just not helping.

  3. Tiffany

Our radio stations are the same way, wouldnt be appropritate for a little kid.. however they do missed connection wednesdays and those are HILARIOUS!! but sometimes very inappropriate.. but basically they go on craigslist to the miss connection section for our area, and than read those out loud, cracks me up every week!

    1. Jennifer

OMG those missed connections on Craigslist are hysterical.

  4. Kristin

If you haven’t already, definitely sign up for the IKEA Family reward program. You get free coffee or tea whenever you are there and, well in the Atlanta store at least, they have an entire section devoted to items that are specially discounted if you use your IKEA Family card. I only go once a year or something, but it is worth it. Luckily, it is free.

    1. Jennifer

Yes! I am an IKEA Family Member!!

  5. Kara

I’m not sure what type of hair you have, but my hairdresser just used the L’Oreal Steam Pod on me Sunday……… OMG….. Silky straight beautiful hair (if you’re dry, wavy and frizzy like me).

    1. Jennifer

Can I buy this at the store? My hair is stick straight already. But I like the silky part.

      1. Kara

You have to order it through a salon. You can have it done at the salon for $10-$15 to see if you like it, because it’s a big investment. $250ish.

So there’s a spot like this in the house where we’re staying now, too. The dead spot just happens to be where I do my work. My husband is very tech savvy and got an extender and all sorts of other equipment, but the wifi was just not working. We even had Comcast come out and evaluate things. They said it was just how the house was built. The only way we get internet is by plugging in. 🙁 Hopefully your situation is different!
Oh, but IKEA! I actually worked there in college, and I STILL can’t walk through the store without finding 10 or 20 things I never knew I needed until then. Have fun! If you don’t need any big furniture, my favorite is just wandering the marketplace and finding fun little gadgets and household items. As for my troubles, it’s that I finally got a shipping email for my PS Resort box, but they haven’t actually dropped off the package! It’s 3.7 pounds, but I’m not in Hawaii, so maybe they’ve just been using random numbers?

    1. Jennifer

Ahhh, I seem to have the same sort of thing at my house. It’s so so so annoying.

My PS is 3.7 lbs as well. I actually think that’s right. Knowing what’s in it, 1.7 doesn’t make sense.

  7. Amy

My hairstylist sometimes puts a glaze on me. It does make my hair very shiny, but it only lasts a couple of weeks for me. Still, it can be worth it if you need a pick me up or have some events coming up that you want to look nice for.

    1. Jennifer

I am so going to try it!

  8. Chelsey

Our radio station will say if you have younger listeners have them leave the room or plug their ears, we live in utah so well I’m sure you’ve seen some of our people in the news (ie the lady who bought all the shirts at PAC sun because she felt they were inappropriate) but they are great to listen to and they are on iheart radio if you like morning talk shows it’s 97.1zht, the main morning guy is actually from Detroit too

    1. Jennifer

LOL. Someone actually bought all the shirts??

      1. Chelsey

Yes!! Completely ridiculous but not all that shocking for utah

  9. kay

Do you have ikea spice rack book shelves for the boys? (it’s just a wall mounted spice rack used as a book shelf, all over pinterest) It does a combo of storage, fun things on the walls, and making books more visible so that kiddos will play with them more! I have three up in my daughter’s room. They’re super cheap too (like $3 or $4 each I think?)

I also love my photo rails from Ikea-easier to play around with what pictures you have up when changing them doesn’t require nails!

    1. Jennifer

OMG no and I do need that!! You are right! Thank you!!!!

  10. Amy

When people chew loudly or with their mouths open it makes me angry like crazy angry. Like I need to walk away and take a deep breath. I know that probably sounds insane but It’s a real thing. I’m convinced I have it.

I think I so too. And it just developed!!!

  11. Kristine

I Loooove a good glaze treatment on my hair!

When I did single process color, I used to go in and get a color glaze treatment every 4 weeks to make my hair shiny. Now that I highlight, I do a clear glaze every 6 weeks! (and touch up my roots every 3 weeks…dark brown hair, transitioning to blonde…LOTS of maintenance!)

If you want to do an over-the-counter, Fekkai makes a fantastic glaze product (clear and colored)…definitely not as luxurious feeling as a salon treatment, but hard to beat for $12 at Walgreen’s!

    1. Jennifer

Oh, I am getting that glaze ASAP. I can handle $12 and it will be a good test. I dye my hair at home and it’s easy so this can’t be too hard can it? Plus I hate going to the salon! Thank you!

        1. Jennifer

Eeek! I am so excited abut this! Thank you!!

  12. Kayla

Last time I asked to dye my hair, she said that she was afraid that my hair wouldn’t take the color because it was very fried. Recently I chopped my long hair to shoulder length. I believe she said lazing stains the hair strand without penetrating it so it is WAY better for your hair than a dye. I glazed my hair almost 2 months ago and the color is holding up super amazingly 🙂

    1. Jennifer

Ohh, you are so making me want to use this!

      1. Kayla

It definitely makes your hair shiny too!

We have dead zones all over our house and nothing seems to work except Verizon. We’ve had parties where all of the kids who don’t have Verizon have had to go outside to make their phones work.
And what about Radio Disney? Is it still on? This was our go-to station when driving with the kids. And they had great give-aways. Every trip to Disneyland when they were young was a win. Also movies, cds, lots of stuff. I was kind of sad when they were too old to enter.

    1. Jennifer

Would I just get radio Disney on my regular radio?? We have some non scandalous stations. I just don’t like the music. LOL!

      1. Kathy

Looks like you can listen on AM910 in your area. I think it’s also on Sirius, if you have that, or online.

I recommend forgetting about the radio and just downloading (or streaming if you don’t mind using your data) Podcasts. There are a ton of Free podcasts apps on all smart phone platforms (Android, Apple’s ios, windows) There are literally thousands of podcasts available and they are just like radio shows (without commercials.) They have them for every subject or interest and you can just download a bunch individually to see if you like them. Then you can subscribe to,your favorites (all for free) and your podcast app will just automatically download new episodes for you. It’s like the radio version of a DVR. I don’t have kids, but I know they have a ton of kid friendly ones that talk about educational things. There are also many mommy related ones that are basically moms having conversations with each other about mom stuff. (These podcasts are usually all talking, not much music.)

I listen to them every time I clean the house or drive. There are a bunch of lists of the best podcast that you can Google if you don’t know where to start. Here are some of my favorites, because I love listening to people just telling their stories. (Your favorites will likely be different from mine, but that’s the cool thing you can find stuff that works for you.) My favorites:

-The Truth (like a 15 min long radio play)
-Radiolab ( kind of science stuff, but told in a really interesting way where people who don’t understand science can appreciate it.)
-This American Life (you’ve probably heard of this one since it’s also on the radio) Basically just people telling their stories all based around a common theme.
-Snap judgment- (kind of like TAL, but with some music and a different vibe.)
-Judge John Hodgeman-(he goes out of his way to not use foul language, so this seems kid safe. It’s just a funny smart guy who helps people settle little disagreements. This one is very light hearted and funny.)

Anyway, I’m obsessed with podcasts, I subscribe to about 20 of them and use them to distract me whenever I’m doing a mindless task (or mindfully driving.)

    1. Jennifer

I have never really gotten into podcasts, but I would really like to check some of these out. I was always a big fan of talk radio so this seems right up my ally! Thanks for all the recs!

Oh the morning radio! I remember the early morning shows when my husband and I used to listen on our commute to base — they were hilarious back then. But that was before we had kids. Thankfully, most of the time when we are driving with the kids in the car, its a little later in the morning {9am+} so that stuff seems to have ended. Otherwise, I don’t know what I would do … my daughter repeats and talks about EVERYTHING as it is!

    1. Jennifer

LOL! Mine too. Or he asks questions.

  16. Stacey

Have fun at ikea!! I’m jealous I want to go!! My favourite frames are the ribba ones and the new gold ones, I don’t know the name!

My house is weird in that we have no problems with the internet, but it’s a dead zone for cell phones. It doesn’t seem to matter what carrier, as none of our friends can get their phones to work. Good thing we have a landline!

    1. Jennifer

      That is so odd!
