The Box

I have been meaning to give Hatchery a try, and just kept forgetting to order, so I was quite excited when they reached out to me.  And since this was my first every Hatchery Tasting box, I couldn’t wait to see what was inside.

I was totally blown away by the beautiful packaging on this box.  Everything was individually wrapped and looked perfect!

The Information Card

The April 2014 Hatchery Tasting Box doesn’t have a theme, however, every box does come with a fabulous Tasting Guide which includes brand and product information for each of the items in the box along with a recipe (online) using the sample sizes included in the box.  Here is what was inside:

~O Olive Oil Fig Balsamic Vinegar: B LOVES balsamic vinegar.  Any Plated meal that has it is one I always pick.  The information card suggests drizzling this on vanilla ice-cream, which I honestly never would have thought of.  If I had some vanilla ice-cream, I would probably try it immediately.

~Two Snooty Chefs Seattle Seasoning Salt: This can be used like salt and pepper or in a dish of your choice.  I will probably (totally) let B pick what dish he makes with this.

~Murphy’s Mustard Motherlode: I have a confession.  Don’t tell B, but I no longer hate mustard.  Well, wait, I hate that bright yellow mustard still.  But fancy mustard like this, I don’t hate it.  I don’t want to eat it straight out of the jar, but mixed with mayo on a burger?  That’s not half bad.

~Elbow Foods Gilcco’s Arrabbiata Pasta Gravy: Pasta gravy? I have never heard of such a thing.  It can be used with pasta, pizza, chicken, etc. and is called gravy and not sauce because of how thick it is.  I don’t love spicy things (and this does have some heat to it), but I do love pasta!  I hope to find their regular pasta gravy out there sometime so I can try it.

~Delta Blue Blueberries Organic Blueberry Fruit Spread: I was just going to have this on toast (boring) until I saw that they recommended it in a Blueberry Mojito.  WHAT?  Once I get some mint leaves, this is on!

~Tonewood Maple Maple Flakes: The recipe for this ingredient is a “Maple Beet Ravioli with Chive Butter”.  I am not totally sure how I feel about that one, but I suspect it’s probably one of those recipes that sounds weird, but tastes amazing.

I didn’t do a cost breakdown on this box, but at $25/month I think it’s a great deal since not only do you get the products, you also get recipes for the exact quantities you received! I think that’s fabulous since sometimes you receive products and then go off in search of a recipe only to find you need more of it, have way too much left over, etc!

What do you think of Hatchery Tasting Box?  If you are interesting in order or just want to learn more, click here!  And right now, you can use the code “MOM10” to save $10 off a gift subscription of 3,6 or 12 months!  This expires tomorrow (5.11.14) so if you want to give it a try, act quick!

I think gravy is an east coast thing. I grew up in the Northeast with a very Italian mother. Sunday dinners were always pasta with gravy. To us, gravy was meat sauce that simmered for hours. Everything in this box looks wonderful!

It must be! Although, I am not Italian, so maybe that’s why I don’t know??

Was checking out Hatchery and I tried the MOM10 coupon code in the checkout area and it said, “Sorry, this coupon is not applicable to your cart contents.”
I had put the monthly subscription in my cart so I thought maybe it only applied to the yearly subscription. I tried that as well and it gave the same “Sorry, this coupon is not applicable to your cart contents.” response.
Maybe because I hadn’t entered any of my shipping/billing info yet??

Not sure what I’m doing incorrectly, but just wanted to let you know in case someone else mentions they’re having trouble with the MOM10 code at Hatchery.

I totally read the deal wrong! It’s $10 off a gift subscription of 3 months or more!

This box totally intrigues me! It’s kind of like Birchbox but with food. Very interesting! Will put this on my list for when we move…

      When are you moving?

Probably in 3-4 weeks. We’re waiting on a firm start date but it will be soon!
