June 2014 GLOSSYBOX

I was quite surprised to see a GLOSSYBOX on my porch today, but my June 2014 box was indeed sitting there along with a pile of other boxes. I am not sure if this is a review box or my box (I subscribe too), but I am just going to be safe and call it a box I was sent to review.

If you aren’t familiar with GLOSSYBOX, they are $21/month and send you five (or in this month’s case, six) luxury surprise beauty items to your door every month. I LOVE GLOSSYBOX and am constantly impressed at the value they pack into the boxes. They also do the best collaborations. They did a collaboration with Bergdorf Goodman last month and they have also done collaborations with Dallas Shaw, The Man Repeller and Bydrie to name a few!

The Box

GLOSSYBOX ships via Newgistics and took three days to arrive.  That’s pretty good for GLOSSYBOX and I was quite impressed!

The GLOSSYBOX

When GLOSSYBOX released the theme of the June box they also released an image of the actual box.  It was love at first site.  I will be hoarding saving this one along with my Best of Britain and a few of the other collaboration boxes.  I have this secret dream that GLOSSYBOX will do limited edition boxes featuring beauty products from individual countries.  Like a “Best of Japan”, “Best of France”, etc. series.  This will probably never happen, but a girl can dream.

First Look

Since this box came so early and it was so unexpected, I had no idea what would be inside. Well, I knew two of the spoilers, but the rest was a complete mystery!

The Information Card

If you hadn’t guessed by the outside of the box, the June 2014 GLOSSYBOX was the “Stars & Stripes Edition” and featured the following products:

~Strangebeautiful Colorbloc Polish ($18): I am not totally clear if this is a full size or not, but I think it is.  I happen to have some white polish as well and some design tools from Julep, so I think when I get a bit of free time I am going to try my hand at some sort of patriotic mani.  Depending on when I do it I’ll call it my Go USA World Cup mani or my 4th of July Mani.

~Rusk Texture Dry Finishing Spray ($3.37): I am not a huge fan of the smell of this (it’s not awful, but it reminds me of a greenhouse), but I am a huge fan of textured hair.  I was actually really surprised at how much of a boost this gave my just washed hair. Very nice.

~Ayres Body Butter (Patagonia) ($4.15): This is for the any dry patches of skin you may have.  I tested it on my hand and I was super impressed at how soft it was.  A little bit went a long way.  This is something I may need to get a full size of!

~Camille Beckman Platinume Gold Imperial Repair Hand Therapy ($10): I wish I could figure out what this reminds me of, but I can’t place it!  I smell citrus for sure though.  This hand cream took a bit longer to rub in than the Ayres, but it also left my hand (the other one) feeling nice and soft.

~Sumita Beauty Champagne Eye Shadow Pencil ($18): I thought this was an eyeliner, but it’s better.  It’s a shadow pencil!  The color is gorgeous and I love that this is a brand new to me brand!

All totaled I came up with a value of $53.52 for the June 2014 Stars & Stripes GLOSSYBOX! This box didn’t have the incredible value that last month’s box had, but I am still very happy with it.  It included 5 products I have never tried before and I hadn’t even heard of 4 of the 5 brands before this box which is even better!

Are you getting a GLOSSYBOX this month?  What do you think?  If are you are interested in subscribing to just want to learn more, click here.  GLOSSYBOX is $21/month and now through 6/30 new subscribers can use the code “HAIR” at checkout to score a free Nioxin Diamax hair thickener (a $50 value) with your subscription purchase!

ETA: I have heard that June boxes will also feature a Bonus C. Wonder gift card for anywhere between $5 and $500, but mine seems to have been missing from the box.  Hopefully as more people start getting their boxes this will be confirmed that it’s in all the boxes this month!

The eye shadow pencil helps to redeem the box a little, but ultimately I’m left with a texture spray that doesn’t suit me (thick, unruly curls), a nail polish set too bold for my tastes, and two moisturizes (the hand cream is especially yawn-inducing, and I’m still a bit overloaded from the aqua lotion in April and TWO eye creams in May).

Glossybox’s demographic strikes me as ladies who are willing to pay a little more and wait a little longer for sophisticated, quality products. However, the contents of the boxes always strike my as a clash between flash-fad items (still fuming from pumpkin-orange glittery nail polish) and dull standbys.

I would really love for GB to find a happy medium and help me discover better alternatives for the things I need and fun items that I may not have tried otherwise but am still excited to try.

Their collab boxes are a nice treat, but there’s not enough consistency from month to month to make me sustain a subscription. Thanks for sharing your box and helping me to make up my mind once and for all!

So many boxes have been doing sea salt / texture sprays lately. They are awesome for me, but if I had curly hair I doubt I would be happy either!

I’m bummed I didn’t discover subscription boxes until after the Best of Britain box. I’m a complete nut about the UK.

BTW: Thank you so much for sharing the info about the Citrus Lane mom’s mystery boxes. I ordered one and was pleased! It makes up for the complete waste that was my Julep mystery box. 😛 Just offhand, Citrus Lane sent a Baggu fox bag, the Chew bracelets in shades of blue (!), the Juicy Beauty hand cream in green apple, and the deep steep moisturizing stick in lavender with chamomile. The only total fail was the Julep nail polish in a color I don’t appreciate Gabrielle. I have so many Julep nail polishes I don’t like. Never again!

Ooh, speaking of mystery box, we actually had a real mystery in ours. There was a plastic fan of what my son called “ice cream tasting spoons.” Since there was no label, I had to rummage through their website, and finally found out you’re supposed to do nail polish swatches on them. If that works ok, it could be nice!

    1. Jennifer

That Best of Britain box sold out in seriously 30 minutes. It was fast!

Ohhh, that is so funny! I saw someone else posting about those and wondering what on earth they were!

  3. Lauren

I think i like it? ? Definitely not Bergdorf quality but I’m okay with it.. social bliss tho.. ehhh…

    1. Jennifer

Can anything match that Bergdorf box? It’s going to be hard for them every to top it!

  4. kd

Well after getting four of the May boxes, I am glad I just got one for June. May was incredible. With my $100 BG Gift cards I got Laura Mercier bath gel and scrub.

    1. Jennifer

May was so amazing. I want to have a Bergdorf collaboration every month!

  5. kd

I forgot to add, I am totally obsessing over lotion and scrub product s for body. I am looking forward to trying the Ayers.

  6. Christine

I think I was amazingly lucky – in April the Ciate polish I got was in a color called Espadrille – it is like a rosy dark pink with flecks of glitter in it that make it coppery or bronzish (I can make up my own words right?). I wonder if June will be like April where we all get the same items with just an item of variation or if it will be like March or May where there were many different options we could receive. I know we are all getting the Ayres cream and the Strange Beautiful polish so I’m thinking this will be like April. Last month reached levels that I cannot imagine reaching again if the company wants to make a profit. I bought an extra gift one for myself and I wish I’d ordered many more. I’ve been swapping a lot to get items from the May box like the Alterna CC Cream and the Revive and Lancer Eye Creams – just getting one of each of those adds up to $140 value!

    1. Jennifer

I think the Rusk was one of the spoilers so everyone would be getting that. I didn’t know everyone was getting the Ayres though??

      1. Christine

There is a thread on MUT for spoilers for June’s box and the first thing that got posted was that Ayres had from Instagram: Take a look at our production line manufacturing our Patagonia Body Butter 1oz for @glossybox_us #ayresbeauty #glossybox #glossyboxus

But I suppose that doesn’t mean they were including it in everyone’s boxes it just looked like a gajillion in the photo so I made an assumption. Now that I returned to that thread though I see the spoiler for everyone getting Rusk – and also there was a photo with Sumita.. so maybe it is like April where everyone gets the same thing – at least I was able to use the HAIR code for the Nioxin stuff which I’m excited to give to my husband.. he needs that stuff!

And now that I read further I see you already are personally familiar with this thread!

        1. Jennifer

          LOL yes! I love MUT!

And I’m still waiting for my May box!

I’m incredibly frustrated that GB sends review boxes out on time, with no issue, and can’t even deliver in the same month for their paid subscriptions. It’s nothing against you and your super helpful blog, but I feel it’s false advertising on their part. They don’t ship the same to non-bloggers.

For May, Glossybox claims their warehouse “forgot” to put my apartment number on the shipping label so my May box was returned to them because my local USPS could not deliver it.

They said they would ship it back out ASAP but that hasn’t happened yet. It finally arrived back at their warehouse over a week ago, too.

I suspect June will be delivered before May arrives, for me.

    1. Jennifer

I would be frustrated too! I have a paid subscription as well, but I got my May box in May. I hope yours comes soon and I hope they are able to give you an extended Bergdorf gift card code!!!!

  8. Genevieve

I don’t mind this box at all, the bonus is the coolness of the box itself! I hated the white Ciate nail polish I received two months ago but now I might pair it with the red and blue for a cute mani, which will be a change! It would be nice if GB would swap out a product for a lifestyle item or something, just to mix it up.

    1. Jennifer

I would love a GB lifestyle item! Even if they charged extra as an add-on or something.

  9. Helen Whaley

This box looks pretty good, I like that we’re all getting the same – no Box Envy, lol.
I could spit when I think about the Best of Britain Box. I’m English and homesick, only been here a couple of years, and signed up for notification of the box’s release. It STILL sold out before I could get my hands on one.
Oh well, third world problems I suppose.

    1. Jennifer

It sold out SO fast! I really hope they do it again!

  10. Logan

The gift card is stuck to the bottom of the actual glossy box, I discovered mine by accident! I hope you didn’t throw yours away!

    1. Jennifer

Oh no, I hunted that box top to bottom! I got my GB subscription one this week and it had a $5 one in it!

  11. Jody

I can confirm that I got a C. wonder gift card, but it doesn’t tell you the amount. You’re suppose to enter the code at check out to see how much you won. I tried using their gift card balance checker, but it didn’t work. I’ll let you know if I got any more than $5. Also, it wasn’t in the Stars and Stripes box, it was loose at the bottom of the shipping box.

    1. Jennifer

I got one in my actual box. It’s $5. The card number starts with $5G, so it’s $5! I think some start with $10G. If it starts with something else, you might have something amazing on your hand!

      1. Jody

Finally got it to work…$10. Not $500, but I’m happy!

        1. lolakat

How did you get the card to work. i am trying to enter it as a cwonder gift card but not working.

  12. Allison

I got a$25 gift card! So happy!

    1. Jennifer

      Yay!!!!! That is awesome!

  13. Lindsay R

Has anyone ever had their Glossybox(or any other box for that matter) mis-shipped? I would have gotten my box last Wednesday, I was following the tracking it was in Greensboro, NC (where I live) but then they sent it to Raleigh and delivered it to someone (someone lucky!) in Chapel Hill, NC!!! My address is correct on my Glossybox account so I do not know how this happened!! Any suggestions on how to go about getting it replaced or returned?

    1. Jennifer

Just shoot glossybox an email. They should be able to replace it!

  14. Jill

Does Glossybox not send out shipment notices? I just joined a few days ago, and they’ve billed my account. Looks like I’m getting the June box (was hoping to start with July but oh well). I logged into my account, and it says it should arrive tomorrow, which implies to me that it already shipped. But I did not receive a shipment notice, tracking no., etc. Is this typical for them? Just curious!

On the plus side, it does look like I’ll still get the July box since it listed my next billing period as July. Excited about the brand spoilers!

    1. Jennifer

They do send out shipping notices. Sometimes I will get the box before I get the notice though!

      1. Jill

Finally got my June Glossybox today! Not sure what happened with the shipping. Perhaps mine was traveling by tortoise? On the plus side, if what you said is correct about the gift card numbers, mine is for $20!

  15. Julie

Hi! Do you still use ebates for glossybox? If you do, how do you do it for each month?

    1. Jennifer

Oh no, I just used it the first time I signed up. I have a monthly membership locked in at like $17/month from a promotion they offered a while back.

  16. Julie

PS you’ve totally gotten me hooked on all these boxes with your reviews! I’ve been doing Stitch Fix and Fabletics for awhile (on and off), and recently just joined Glossbox, Birchbox, Love with Food and Julep. Thinking of the PopSugar box too, it’s just so expensive!

  17. Genevieve

Hey, how did you get your card to work? Mine starts out 20G so I’m guessing it’s $20? Maybe I have to order something expensive enough for it to work?

    1. Jennifer

I never even used mine since it was only $5. I didn’t have an issue when I entered it in though??
