Eeek! Since I didn’t get a shipping notification on this box, I didn’t know exactly when it was coming. I just knew that it would arrive “soon”. But happily, my June 2014 Hazel Lane box appeared today!

If you aren’t familiar, Hazel Lane sends a carefully curated box of surprise goodies from that month’s selected city that they think represents its spirit.  The idea is to give you an affordable way to explore the world without having to leave your house!  Items you can expect to see included are food, drink, clothing, accessories and handcrafted items chosen by locals with the environment, social responsibility and CHICNESS in mind. I subscribe to the “City Explorer” box which is $39.99/month plus shipping.

The Box

Hazel Lane ships via USPS Priority Mail and took just two days to arrive (I checked the shipping label). I actually ordered a previous month’s box as well (I will do a separate review on that one) so they came together in a larger box.

First Look

I had seen some blurred spoiler pictures and had some guesses on what was in this box, but I wasn’t certain about anything.

The Information Card

Aren’t the Hazel Lane information cards the cutest? The June 2014 Hazel Lane destination was “Portland” and my City Explorer Box included the following items:

~33 Bottles of Wine Booklet ($4): This is actually a really good idea. You can record the details of 33 bottles of wine you have drank (drunk?). It includes sections for price, winery, origin, rating, vintage, as well as, a section for notes which I would put what we paired it with. It also has a color meter chart and a flavor wheel that you can fill in!

~T-Rex Bottle Opener by Berkley Illustration ($6): I do need a new keychain and I could see this coming in handy sometimes ;). I am also kind of thinking about hooking it to something outside for B so he can easily open up a beer when he’s working on the lawn.

~Coava Coffee Los Capucas ($4.76): B is going to love this! I am fairly certain he is dying for a good cup of coffee and this will likely all be gone Sunday morning. LOL! Okay, maybe not all of it, but he will for sure crack into it. It was roasted on June 10th, so it’s beyond fresh and it smells amazing.

~Toe Pigeon Spoon Rest ($20): Love. This is hand-thrown at the Pigeon Toe studio in Portland, Oregon and is made at the time you order. Hazel Lane says this was just glazed and shipped right away. It can be used as a spoon rest in your kitchen OR as a holder for your rings and other jewelry on your nightstand or while you cook.

~Frankie and Coco Tribal Neon Bag ($16): I will probably use this for my Erin Condren planner goodies or as a little pouch to hold my credit card / lip balm / iPhone to throw in a tote bag for the park or beach. I like this tribal design, but I LOVE some of the other options in the shop. That Emerald IKAT? OMG yes please!

All totaled I came up with a value of $50.76 for the June 2014 Hazel Lane – “Portland” box.  I had never heard of any of these products or vendors before today and I LOVE that about Hazel Lane.  They introduce me to new things and really do a fabulous job curating the boxes based on the destination for that month.  Oh, and I should mention that every box includes a handwritten post card from the Hazel Lane girls.  They even knew it was my birthday and included some Birthday wishes on it!  How cute is that?

What do you think of Hazel Lane? If you are interested in subscribing or want to learn more, click here.  In addition to the City Explorer ($39.99) subscription (which is the one I have), they offer a Mini Explorer ($19.99), the Kids Explorer ($19.99) and a Deluxe Explorer ($59.99).  Shipping is additional and you are able to customize the size, gender, etc. of the box.

I’m jealous! I wish I had gotten Hazel Lane instead of Hammock Pack – similar concept except Hazel Lane seems like products I’d use!

I got my first Hammock Pack today too! I liked it, but I don’t think it’s my favorite that I have seen from them.

Thank you so much for the compliment! We still have a few mini and deluxe boxes left and JUST listed them on our “Buy Previous Months Box” page on the website. Hope you get a chance to check us out!

Yay, I got mine today too! CA to VA in 2 days was impressive! I get the mini explorer & got the neon pouch, wine booklet, & coffee. I was looking into moving to Portland last year, so that made the box a lot more enjoyable. I also love their handwritten notes on the postcards, makes it feel more personal

The bags are so cute – can you take a photo of it as a size reference?
    Love your reviews!

Why don’t you want Hazel Lane to see your comment?? The pouch is 4×6!

Very cute and useful box. Such great finds and randomly I think I need another spoon rest. I only have one but when I’m really cooking I feel like I could use another one. Hmm something to start looking for 🙂

    1. Jennifer

That makes total sense. You probably do need another one.

    2. Ashley

You are so right Jennifer! The founder of Pigeon Toe Ceramics created the spoon rest because there are so few “simple and chic” options for spoon rests. We LOVED including this item because not only can you use it as a spoon rest, you can put your rings or other trinkets in it as well. We just listed the deluxe box for sale on our site http://www.HazelLn.com if you want to adopt a spoon rest and give it a nice new home ;).

      Have an amazing Friday!

Darn! I was really looking forward to that Key chain that they had posted on their page! But looking on the website that is only for the Deluxe box. ;( diappointed, there have been so many little pouches and bags in the sub boxes the past two months and I already got two bottle openers last month in two of my boxes. (sigh)

    1. Jennifer

Ohh, I need to go see this keychain!

  7. Sarah

    LOVE the spoon rest!
